The All American Races

A Tradition of Challenge and Community in 2025

Get ready, runners! The All American Races are set to return on Saturday, March 22nd, bringing together athletes, Families, and supporters for an unforgettable day of fitness and fun at Fort Liberty. Whether you’re aiming for a personal record, looking for a new challenge, or just joining in for the camaraderie, this event has something for everyone.

TWO EXCITING RACES TO CHOOSE FROM

This year’s event offers two race options:

• The 5K, perfect for runners of all levels, from beginners to seasoned pros.

• The Half Marathon, a 13.1-mile test of endurance for those ready to take on a bigger challenge.

Both races start and finish at the Main Post Parade Field, with courses designed to showcase the beauty and spirit of Fort Liberty. From cheering crowds to the scenic routes, participants can look forward to a race experience like no other.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The All American Races are open to everyone. For the Half Marathon, runners must be at least 14 years old. Younger children are welcome to participate in the 5K, provided they are registered runners.

Every participant will receive:

• A custom race bib

• A participation medal to celebrate their achievement

• An event t-shirt to commemorate the day

Top finishers in both races will also take home custom awards, recognizing their outstanding performance.

MORE THAN JUST RUNNING

Not a runner? That’s okay! The All American Races are about community, and there are plenty of ways to get involved without hitting the course. Volunteer opportunities are open to individuals and groups who want to support the event.

Volunteers play a crucial role in creating a memorable experience for participants. From handing out water along the route to assisting at the finish line, there are roles for everyone. Anyone aged 12 or older can volunteer. Those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

WHY JOIN THE ALL AMERICAN RACES?

This event is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of resilience, determination, and community. Runners and volunteers alike come together to honor the spirit of endurance and support that defines Fort Liberty.

Whether you’re running for fun, pushing your limits, or simply cheering from the sidelines, the All American Races offer an opportunity to connect with others and create lasting memories.

Start training now, and we’ll see you at the starting line on March 22, 2025. Let’s make this year’s All American Races an event to remember!

Boarding your pets, whether they are playful puppies, curious kittens, or wise seniors, can be a fantastic experience for both you and your furry friends. Here on Fort Liberty, we proudly offer boarding and kenneling services at Paws on Post Pet Kennel for Active Duty, Family Members, Retirees, civilians, and Contractors. Leaving your beloved furry pet behind when you go away or go to work can be a bit ruff. But at Paws on Post, your pet will receive the love, care, attention, and excitement they need to keep a sharp mind and active life. Here’s why boarding is a great idea, no matter how many candles are on your pet’s birthday cake!

SOCIALIZATION GALORE!

For young pups and kitties, boarding is like a day at the playground. They get to meet new friends, both furry and human, which is great for their social skills. Imagine your little furball making new best friends and coming back with stories (or barks and purrs) about their adventures! For our senior pets, boarding offers gentle interaction with others. It’s like a cozy book club where they share their wisdom with the younger crowd, all while keeping it calm and collected.

PAWS-ON FUN AND EXERCISE

You know how kids need recess to let out that burst of energy? Well, your pets do too! Boarding and daycare facilities like ours, have playtime schedules that keep pets active and engaged. For the younger ones, this is a chance to burn off some of that boundless energy. For older pets, it’s gentle exercise to keep them healthy and happy.

SAFETY FIRST

Whether you pet is a daring youngster or cautious elder, boarding ensures they are safe and sound. Facility employees are trained to keep pets secure, while keeping a watchful eye to prevent any mischief. It’s like having a babysitter who knows just how mischievous your puppy can get or how much your senior loves their afternoon nap.

A BREAK FOR YOU TOO

Trying to avoid the stress of figuring out where to leave your pet while you are on vacation? Boarding can give you piece of mind to enjoy your time while you’re away. Knowing your pet is in capable hands will allow you to de-stress and enjoy all the little things. When you return, you’ll be greeted by a wagging tail or happy purr, and maybe even some new tricks they picked up!

SIGN UP TODAY ON FORT LIBERTY

April is a month of recognition, resilience, and celebration as we observe the Month of the Military Child, a time dedicated to honoring military-connected children’s incredible strength and sacrifices. Established in 1986 by former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, this special observance highlights the vital role military children play in the armed forces community and acknowledges the unique challenges they face.

Military children experience lives filled with transitions and uncertainties that often set them apart from their civilian peers. From frequent relocations to parental deployments and living far from extended Family, they face these challenges with resilience and grace. Despite the upheaval, military kids consistently demonstrate adaptability, courage, and a sense of adventure, embodying the spirit of service and sacrifice shared by their Families.

WHY THE MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD MATTERS

The Department of Defense recognizes that the well-being of military children is essential to service members’ overall readiness and resilience. These young heroes often serve as the glue that holds their Families together during long separations and frequent moves, maintaining a sense of stability and connection even in uncertain times.

The ability of military children to thrive despite these challenges is a testament to their character and the unwavering support provided by their Families and communities. By dedicating April to their recognition, the Month of the Military Child offers an opportunity to celebrate their contributions and ensure their voices are heard.

Throughout the month, military installations, schools, and communities come together to honor these remarkable individuals. From hosting special events to launching educational initiatives, this observance ensures that military children, who are often overlooked, receive the appreciation and recognition they truly deserve.

CELEBRATING IN STYLE AT FORT LIBERTY

At Fort Liberty, Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs play a central role in celebrating and supporting military children. This year’s events emphasize the importance of providing highquality services and fostering an environment where children feel valued, supported, and connected to the larger Armed Forces community.

One highlight of the month is the Month of the Military Child Middle School/Teen Award Ceremony held at Tolson Youth Center. This annual event recognizes and rewards military youth for their outstanding contributions to the Youth Center and the Fort Liberty community as a whole. It’s a moment to shine a light on the achievements of these young leaders, offering them the recognition they so richly deserve.

A FINAL WORD

Military children are far more than just members of a Family— they are integral to the fabric of the armed forces community. Their courage, adaptability, and unwavering support for their families make them unsung heroes in their own right.

This April, let’s take the time to celebrate their achievements, recognize their sacrifices, and ensure they feel valued and supported. Together, we can honor these young individuals who play such an important role in the strength and readiness of our military Families.

Little Hands, Big Joy:

Kid-Friendly Easter Ideas

Easter is not only a time for egg hunts and chocolate bunnies: it’s a perfect opportunity to unleash creativity and embark on fun-filled adventures. Whether you’re spending the holiday with Family or friends, engaging in craft projects and outdoor activities can make the season even more memorable. Here’s a guide to some delightful and new Easter craft projects and adventures that everyone can enjoy!

SPECIAL EASTER EGG HUNTS

Glow-in-the-Dark Hunt: Use glow sticks or LED lights inside plastic eggs for a nighttime egg hunting adventure. Dress for the occasion by purchasing silly glow glasses, rings, headbands, and shirts.

Puzzle Hunt: Write clues on paper inside each egg, leading to a larger prize or specialty activity. Adults can join in on the fun by being “Bunny Game Masters” and verbally providing clues and solutions.

Themed Hunt: Choose a theme, like pirates or fairies, and decorate the eggs, hunt area, and kids accordingly.

PLANTING A SPRING GARDEN

Eggshell Planters: Use leftover eggshells and eggshell cartons, or small plastic pots, as planters for starting seeds which can

later be transplanted into a garden. Purchase child safe paint to decorate your planters and pots to show off your artsy skills.

Veggie Patch: Plant a vegetable patch with spring favorites like carrots, lettuce, and radishes. Have the kids help pick out a planter or create one together! Plant your seeds and have the kids create markers for each type of plant.

NATURE WALK

Eye Spy: Have your kids spy with their little eyes, spring flowers! Visit a botanical garden or walk through your neighborhood with lists and pictures of spring flowers to spot along the way. If your neighborhood or area your visiting is especially festive, include related objects such as bunnies, eggs, and chicks for a festive touch.

The Color of Spring: Create a “Find the Color” board. On a piece of cardboard, or whatever is handy, glue small colored squares and clothes pins right below the squares. You can then take your children on a walk to search for items with the matching color (i.e. a red rose petal for the red square, a green leaf for the green square). The first one to fill out their entire board wins!

Enjoying new Easter craft projects, or traditional ones, offers a wonderful way to celebrate the season, fostering creativity and togetherness. Whether you’re decorating eggs, making wreaths, or exploring nature, these activities create lasting memories and bring joy to the holiday. So, gather your supplies, rally your Family and friends, and embark on these delightful Easter adventures.

If you’re looking for another fun idea to enjoy with your Family this Easter, join us for Easter Brunch at Iron Mike Conference Center on April 20th. For more information on this event, call 907-2582 or visit liberty.armymwr.com.

Whether it’s your own mother, grandmother, partner, or any motherly figure in your life, this day offers the perfect opportunity to show them how much you appreciate their love and sacrifices. One of the best ways to do this is by giving a thoughtful gift or organizing a memorable experience that will make them feel cherished! We’re also here to offer you some other creative ideas for Mother’s Day to help make the day unforgettable!

A FAMILY PICNIC OR OUTDOOR/INDOOR ADVENTURE

For moms who enjoy spending time adventuring, plan a Family picnic in the park or a scenic hike. Pack a basket with her favorite treats, snacks, and beverages, or surprise her with a creation of your own for those moms who love to try new things. If hiking isn’t her thing, consider other outdoor activities such as a day at the beach, trip to a lake, or camping. Better yet, if proper and fun equipment is an issue, our Equipment Checkout Center offers a wide variety of adventure essentials such as campers, tents, bikes, and even boats! Indoor activities are also a great option! You can visit your neighborhood friendly Cleland Ice Skating Rink located right on Fort Liberty or have a family bowl off at Dragon Lanes.

SOMETHING FROM THE HEART

What better way to celebrate the Family dynamic than by capturing it on camera. Set up a casual photo shoot at home or outdoors, using a professional photographer or just your smartphone. Choose a theme for DIY photoshoots, such as a cozy at home setting, or go for a more adventurous look like Family photos in nature. If the mom in your life enjoys food, team up with the littles (or be solo head chef) and make a special meal. Pick out a recipe you know she’ll love or revisit a dish that holds sentimental value for you both. Or, if you want to give your mom something personal, take the time to write her a heartfelt letter or a series of notes. Share what you appreciate most about her, recount meaningful memories, and express your gratitude.

PLAN A STAY-CATION

If traveling far is out of the question, create a stay-cation that feels like a getaway! Decorate a room in your house to feel like a beach resort or spa getaway and plan activities that mimic a relaxing vacation such as a movie under the stars, gourmet meals, and leisure activities. If you want to go bigger, consider a cabin getaway! Smith Lake Army Campground offers rental cabins for you and your Family to enjoy! Our large cabins feature amenities such as three separate sleeping areas, fully stocked kitchen, living room area, rec room, and full bathroom. If you want a campier feel and it’s just you and mom, consider a small cabin featuring one bedroom, television, couch, small dining table, mini fridge, and outdoor picnic areas.

No matter what you choose to do, remember, the most meaningful memories often come from shared experiences, heartfelt gestures, or adventures. Whether it’s a quiet moment of reflection and relaxation, or an epic adventure, make the day unique to your mom’s personality and preferences.
