Missing woman found By LeaAnne Klentzman
A Missouri City woman was found deceased just hours after she was reported missing. Missouri City police were notified early Monday morning, February 4, around 1:46 am that Teresa Millhouse, 48, was missing. According to police, Ms. Millhouse resided on Tuscan Shores in the Lake Shore Harbour subdivision. In a written statement police officials said, “Officers arrived on location and immediately began
searching nearby streets, and neighborhoods.” Ms. Millhouse’s body was discovered at approximately 7:20 am that Monday morning when an officer on the scene saw what appeared to be a body floating in the retention pond behind the 4000 block of Tuscan Shore. Teresa Millhouse’s body was recovered from the pond that morning. “This incident is currently under investigation by the Missouri City Police Department,” said a spokesman for the department.

TI plans to invest more than $35 million to build a 155,000-square-foot office building. The company expects construction to be finished by early 2014. Sugar Land, the Sugar Land Development Corporation, and Fort Bend County offered a joint incentive package to keep TI in the county. Sugar Land approved a 50 percent tax abatement for 10 years. Sugar Land police are looking for a man who used a stolen credit card at Target, 16300 Southwest Freeway, on Nov. 12. "We need to do an assessment now to determine the current facility conditions and give an estimated cost to fix these items regardless of the funding mechanism," said Max Cleaver, Chief Auxiliary Services Officer. "Using a third party vendor will help keep things transparent." Cleaver told the BOT that a complete assessment would require over 10,000 man hours and the district does not have the manpower to do the job. Sam Wilson with Jacobs Engineering said it would take 10 months to complete the assessment including time in the fall to update the community on the progress. FBISD, continued on page 12

Who in the heck?......thinks I want or need woodworking plans. I get oodles of e-mail every day. I’ve never counted because I have too much other things to do, but I get some crazy emails. They seem to run in packs. It was Canadian medicine for several months, then it was guaranteed loans. Lately it has been woodworking plans. Not only do I not understand what web site I visited that caused the woodworking plans to be sent to me every day about 3 times a day, but since it is probably a mass mailing and you’ve received your share of invitations to buy woodworking plans, I wonder who thought that thousands, nay millions, of people should get woodworking plans. It simply defies imagination. I also get many offers to teach me IPad instructions. Now IPads are simpler to work than your average computer. In fact, I saw a monkey (on TV) using an IPad yesterday. In fact my grandson Jack, who was 4 years old at the time, received an IPad for Christmas and by New Year’s had mastered the machine and carried it around like his binkie.
Some days I don’t even like to look at my email. Kenneth Craig Brady......If you wonder who that is, it’s the same Craig Brady who was the Chief Deputy that spent one-half million dollars running for Sheriff and was soundly defeated in a four-man race. He is now applying to be the Chief of Police in Alvin as Kenneth Brady. I guess he wants to start a new life and we applaud him for that, but if I were an official in Alvin, I guess I would have my doubts about someone applying for a job as the chief law enforcement officer under a new name. I would wonder what he was trying to hide. Asian day of beauty......Okay, I am going to make an old joke. I’m warning you so you can skip this paragraph. After being sick for several weeks, when I finally arose from my sick bed I desperately needed some beauty treatment. I went to my favorite beauty salon where the young lady who cuts my hair is actually named Phuong Die^.p, but to her customers, she is called “Tiffany.” Then I went to my favorite nail

salon where the guy who does my mani-pedi is called “Tony” and I have no idea his Asian name. So I had an Asian Day of Beauty but unfortunately two hours later I was ugly. Legislative appointments..... In the state house committee assignments have been made. Rick Miller didn’t do so well, but he is new. He was put on the Defense and Veterans’ Affairs committee and the Elections committee. Ron Reynolds was put on the Environmental Regulations committee and the Technology committee. Dr. John Zerwas got the big one, the Appropriations committee and Chair of the General Investigation and Ethics committee. Then Ron Reynolds got the really big one by being appointed as Democratic whip. My granddaughter, Kathryn Kluge, who attends Texas State University in San Marcus, drives to Austin and is interning for Ron Reynolds part-time. She loves it as she is majoring (this year) in political science. Don’t get your hopes up about Dr.. Zerwas doing great things on the Appropriations committee and restoring some of the drastic cuts in education funding. Remember that Dr. Zerwas voted to cut funding for Planned Parenthood and voted to require a vaginal sonogram before an abortion. By the way, there is no medical necessity for the trans vaginal sonogram. It is simply to harass and embarrass the woman seeking an abortion. Of course if you have the money, you can go to your private doctor and get a “D and C” and even have your insurance company pay for it. International star.....Will I become an international star? This afternoon I am scheduled to meet some people at a local hotel to tape a segment of an Australian TV show that is much like “48 Hours.” I would get nervous about the meeting in a hotel except for my vast knowledge of these things, I know TV producers often rent a hotel facility to tape shows. Otherwise I would worry that I was being lured into the international geriatrics sex trade. A sad note....A great friend, long-time advertiser, excellent craftsman who I was planning on remodeling some future things for me, and mostly a sweet, sweet man, Ray Wilson, long time resident of Missouri City, passed away last week. He was only 66. He died after an operation for cancer. Supposedly, they got all the cancer but during his recovery, he had a pulmonary embolism. Rest in peace, Ray. They needed another carpenter in Heaven. B.K. Carter is the owner/ publisher of the Fort Bend/ Southwest Star. She can be reached at beverly@fortbendstar. com. Follow Bev on Twitter. members Amy Mitchell, Bridget Yeung and Himesh Gandhi are among those serving as board members. “The TIRZ No. 3 will work in conjunction with the Imperial Redevelopment District which does not have ad valorum taxing authority in the zone,” said Calloway. “So what you see is a combination of the approximate $150,000,000 in projects that can be implemented by both the district and the TIRZ within the zone.” Both plans call for improvements and projected costs for public infrastructure and facilities including the preservation of certain historic structures at the
Imperial Sugar site. The plan also supports the future extension of University Boulevard north across the Union Pacific railroad tracks and reimburses the city for public infrastructure necessary to support the initial phase of development in the zone. With the approval of the final plan and the financing plan, the MOU with the county and a so-called tri-party agreement can now move forward. The tri-party agreement identifies which improvements will be financed by the Redevelopment District, the TIRZ and the City, said Calloway.

The 2010-2015 Strategic Vision Plan will drive the actions of the District and guide its budget action. Included in the plan for the 2013/14 school year, parents will be provided the opportunity to complete 2 six-hour courses for career and college readiness to assist their children. Campus administrators and counselors will encourage parents to attend the courses which will be focused on strategies
and activities parents can do at home to support current learning or college entrance. Dr. Hindt stated that this will be tough to accomplish without additional resources to run the library. Meetings and discussions included requesting funding from Fort Bend County Commissioners Court. Mayor Scarcella pointed out that Stafford is the only major city in Fort Bend County that does not have a county library. With the additional funding, Stafford MSD will be able to keep the library open until 8:00pm benefitting parents and the entire community.

The Conservative Voice By Barbara J. Carlson
On A Positive Note… Instead of the bloody facts of what’s happening to our nation, an analytical dissection of Obama’s inaugural speech or why the Establishment refuses to fight for our Second Amendment and resolve our debt crisis, let’s take a break this week and
turn our attention locally. If you were unable to attend both the Stafford and Katy home shows, you truly missed out on two exceptional events. It was exhilarating meeting so many Conservative small business owners who were passionate
system issue that is invasively compromising a foundation, then the result is short-lived and one has just wasted his $$$ outlay. A properly-constructed root barrier procedure, with handdug trenches, is crucial so that mature roots will not “jump” or circumvent the barrier wall and continue its destruction. Our home is our investment that we cannot afford to lose on. Even worse, when trees are planted in close proximity between two homes, this escalates the issue to now both foundations while necessitating their urgent removal.
Delayed repair is costly in itself and can become cost prohibitive for the two-story homeowner. One all-toocommon devastating story was a $30,000 bid when the problem could have been alleviated years earlier for pennies on the dollar. Construction has moved away from conventional (steel) slabs and gone to post-tension slabs, needing the homeowner to be even more discerning. Taking a proactive approach at the outset alleviates costly mistakes later on, and your neighbor will thank you. Check out Rootwall

At about 1:00 am on the morning January 28, Missouri city police were called to investigate a drive-by shooting on Bowden Court in the Vicksburg subdivision. According to Missouri City Police, two vehicles were observed to be on Bowden Ct. and allegedly the occupants fired shots at a vehicle parked in front of a residence. The suspects fled the location shortly thereafter. Further investigation revealed
that the street was littered with shotgun shells recovered by police. Later that same morning Fort Bend Sheriff’s deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle matching one of the suspect vehicles in this incident. During that interaction, the sheriff’s deputy discovered shotgun shell casing along the windshield that were “similar” to those used in the drive-by. No persons were reported injured in this incident; Missouri City police are still investigating. It is believed to be gang related.

about a Second Amendment discussion while they understood what is coming straight at us. At this critical juncture, consumers need to exercise sagacity. Most vendors had so much to say in so little time, with one specific business concept present that I had literally just completed researching in depth, which will benefit all of us. It’s about our clay-ridden soil and resolving foundation issues. If one only goes to the length of pier placement under a foundation but doesn’t resolve one’s mature trees’ root

I have difficulty getting into and out of the bathtub… what can I do? If getting in and out of the bathtub is difficult for you or a member of your family, it’s obvious that you need to make some modifications so bathing can be both easier and safer. When you consider your options, you realize that a complete bathroom remodel and installation of a walk-in tub Paul Barnett are simply not in the budget. Then, you see an ad for the Easy Step®, the tub to shower conversion offered by Miracle Method, and know it’s the solution you need! The Easy Step conversion allows seniors and the mobility challenged to step through, not over, the side of the bathtub…reducing the chance of slip and fall accidents. With no expensive remodeling required, the Easy Step tub to shower conversion is an affordable solution for homeowners and commercial properties. The Easy Step is installed into an existing bathtub and the conversion can be completed in as little as one day, often in the same week ordered, and is suitable for steel, cast iron, fiberglass, acrylic, and cultured marble tubs. Additionally, the Easy Step can be installed with or without a watertight sealable door – perfect for bathrooms being used by residents with varying mobility ranges. To make bathing even safer, Miracle Method can also add grab bars, a slip-resistant surface to the bottom of the bathtub, a curved shower rod and a hand-held shower nozzle. When the Easy Step conversion is no longer needed, Miracle Method can re-install the cut-out section, returning the tub to its original look.
No. a car is a total loss only when the price of repairs exceeds a percentage of the vehicle’s value as Chuck Charlton determined by the insurance company. Today, most cars are built using unibody construction (frame and body as one). A reputable shop with highly skilled technicians and state-of-the-art equipment, can return your vehicle to its original factory specifications. The collision repair industry has come a long way with regard to structural repairs. If your vehicle has frame damage and you are concerned about the repair, feel free to contact the shop and they will be able to answer any questions yo may have.
My answering service is VERY expensive and VERY unreliable. I need to get emergency calls 24/7. Are there any options to an answering service? More and more frequently businesses are getting away from answering services for both of these reasons. The Panasonic Telephone System with Voice Mail has several options that can solve both expense Lydia Ouellette and reliability. The telephone/voice mail system can answer all of your calls when you are away. If it’s not an emergency, the caller can leave a message in someone’s mailbox for a return call the next business day. If the caller has an emergency, they will be directed to leave a message in a mailbox and the system can call you on your cell phone and tell you that you have an emergency message. You can listen to the message and make the call back through the system eliminating the recipient from seeing your cell phone number on their Caller ID. You also have the option of the caller pressing one digit and being connected directly to you if you like or you can also have the option of getting the voice mail message sent to your Email or Blackberry via a .wav file. If you just want to lower the traffic to your answering service, you can have the caller press one digit to be connected directly with the answering service if necessary. There are many other features offered by the Panasonic Telephone and Voice Mail Systems. ProStar Communications is an authorized Panasonic dealer that has been serving the Fort Bend area since 1992. Please call us at 281.265.3500 for a free consultation to discuss your needs for today and into the future.
Charlton’s Body Repair
What is the most common cause of hearing loss? Noise is one of the most common causes of hearing loss. A single shot from a shotgun, experienced at close range, may permanently damage your hearing in an instant. Repeated exposures to loud machinery and devices may, over an extended period of time, present serious risks Terry Snook to your hearing. AuD, FAAA Exposure to lawnmowers, snowmobiles, stereo headphones, and motorcycles can all potentially be loud enough to damage hearing. According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), 10 million Americans have already suffered irreversible hearing damage from noise, and 30 million more are exposed to dangerous noise levels each day. Why has this problem become so widespread? Unfortunately, the effects of noise or loud sounds are often underestimated because the damage takes place so gradually, loud noises and sounds have become so common in our culture, and (although traumatizing to the parts of the body responsible for hearing) there are no externally-visible physical changes (like bleeding). As a result, people have traditionally not appreciated the serious impact of noise-related hearing loss on their daily living until they’re frustrated by a permanent communication problem. For more information about how to protect your hearing please contact us and remember to stay healthy and protect your hearing!
My vehicle shakes when I apply my brakes, what would cause this to happen? If your vehicle shakes only when you apply the brakes, it means that your brake rotor(s) or drum(s) has warped. This creates high and low spots on the surface (in technical terms: “lateral run out”). This can occur David Alexander from braking excessively for long periods Service Director of time with too much pressure. Heat from the application of brakes being applied causes this problem, creating artificial hard spots in the rotor called cementite that will not wear down evenly. In severe cases it may be necessary to replace the rotors. However, in most cases this is not an expensive repair, because usually they can be “turned” (resurfaced to make them true again) very inexpensively. On many foreign cars the manufacturers recommend replacing the rotors with every brake job. Call around and ask places first, “How much it will cost to turn the rotors on a (year, make and model car)? How much will it cost to replace them? A fail safe method to always remember is: The minimum thickness is stamped on the rotor, so there should be no question on replacing the rotor (drum) or resurfacing. Hopefully this will resolve your question or concern, so now you can “relax and enjoy the difference”

If my vehicle has frame damage, is it a total loss?
I’ve heard that putting video on my website will improve my search engine rankings. Is this true and how do we start?
It is true. Google especially loves video. The first step in putting together any kind of video is to determine your target audience and decide what effect you want to create with that audience. Do you want them Elsa Maxey to call you for more information? Perhaps feel more comfortable about your product or service? Visit your booth at an upcoming trade show? Invest money in your business venture? Or maybe order products from your website. Once those things have been decided, we would then tailor a project that speaks directly to their interests and needs. This begins with a script. There’s an old show business saying: “If it ain’t on the page, it ain’t on the stage.” We would write a script that reflects what you want to say about your business, reaches your target audience and creates the effect you desire. After the script is approved, we would then determine a shooting schedule and budget for the project. After the production is complete, we would edit the footage, voice-over narration and add music and titles to create a custom-produced project that shows off your business to potential customers and clients. At Star Video Digital Productions, we can handle all aspects of production, from script writing through to post-production editing and compression for upload to your website. Ear Infections in Young Children
A common ailment among young children is an ear infection known as acute otitis media (AOM). This is an infection of the middle ear. The membrane inside the ear may appear to be red and swollen, which can be painful for a child. A small child who may not be able to fully communicate their feelings may indicate ear irritation by tugging on the affected ear, crying more than usual, and display difficulty sleeping. AOM can also be accompanied by fever, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. Drainage of fluid from the ear may be present. Three different bacteria are known for commonly causing AOM, and there are a variety of antibiotics that may be prescribed. In some cases, it may be appropriate to simply observe the child before administering any medications. Amoxicillin (Amoxil) or amoxicillin/clavulante (Augmentin) are the preferred drugs to treat AOM and are given by mouth for 5-7 days. Both of these drugs are types of penicillins. Alternatives for people with penicillin allergies include azithromycin (Zithromax), clarithromycin (Biaxin), cefdinir (Omnicef), or cefpodoxime (Vantin). Some of these oral solutions can be flavored by a pharmacist to make them more appealing for children. The pain associated with AOM is often treated with acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil).

To the cloud, Fort Bend! County YMCA camp cloud project support generates state grant request By Elsa Maxey
YMCA’s Camp Cloud just the other day, actually this past summer, started out as a joint program between the Fort Bend and TW Davis YMCAs. It was for providing area youth an opportunity to learn about nature by participating in outdoor activities and it began at Bates Allen Park in Kendleton. With the successful completion of a 10-week program for about 500 kids last summer, that seems to have triggered pressing on to the next level. There is now a grant
application pending with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in Austin for a one mile, eight foot width recreational trail. Last week Fort Bend County Commissioner’s Court authorized sending the request for funding assistance amounting to what will turn out to be a $250,000 project. The funds are intended to help further develop the outdoor education and recreation camp at Bates Allen Park. Twenty percent of the money for the project is proposed to come from the county’s road and bridge department as in-kind services.

M. She was an excellent, dedicated teacher for 43 years, having taught in Aldine ISD, LaMarque ISD, Los Angeles Unified, and Houston ISD, in that order. She enjoyed her teaching career, stating a few years ago that she knew from an early age that she wanted to teach elementary students. Eleanor enjoyed traveling, even when it meant taking a solo road trip to Los Angeles, stopping for just a couple of hours of sleep during the 28hour odyssey. She also enjoyed visiting the northeastern U.S., especially New England. Recently, commissioner’s court approved two publicprivate partnering agreements with the YMCA for the development and programming of the outdoor camp. The terms of the agreement call for the continuing development
of the recreational and educational facilities funded by YMCA with ownership and maintenance of the park property assigned to the county. The park is a beautiful 235 acre area on the San Bernard River where YMCA participants

required the STAAR test to account for 15 percent of a student’s end-of -course (EOC) assessment for the 2012-2013 school year. The Texas Education Agency allowed school districts the option of suspending the 15% rule for the second year in a row. Acting Superintendent Mike McKie said that the 15 percent rule required credit to be awarded on a year-long basis. The district wants to return to semester credit. “It’s our intent to go back to awarding semester credit,” McKie said. “That’s what we did years ago before the 15 percent. It’s student friendly, and it’s the best thing for the students, which is the bottom line.” The 15% EOC requirement is still in place for the 2013-14 school year.

Chautaiqia Talk: Sugar Land history series on February 12 features former Mayor Bill Little Come to the historic Sugar Land Auditorium on Tuesday, February 12, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., for the second in a special series of lectures on the history of Sugar Land. Former Sugar Land Mayor William (Bill) Little will present “Transition From a Company Town to an Incorporated City” as part of the Sugar Land Chautauqua Talks, co-sponsored by the Sugar Land Heritage Foundation and Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation, open and free of charge to the public.
Mayor Bill Little will bring a piece of Sugar Land history alive, as he discusses with local historian Bruce Kelly his perspective on the City’s transition from a company town in the 1950’s to a thriving, incorporated municipality. In 1961, Bill was elected the second mayor of the newly incorporated city of Sugar Land, serving in this role until 1964. During this critical time in the City’s growth and formation, Bill held various executive titles with both Sugarland Industries and
the Imperial Sugar Company. The Chautauqua Talks, a series of entertaining and educational presentations related to Sugar Land history, is suitable for audiences of all ages. The name for the series (pronounced shə-TAW-kwə), is based on an adult educational movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, called the Chautauqua Movement, which began in New York State and spread across rural America to small towns like Sugar Land. In response to the movement, the Sugar Land
Fort Bend Chamber’s Chairman’s Gala a resounding success Fort Bend’s most unique social event of 2013 has come and gone. The Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce kicked off the New Year with its annual Chairman’s Gala on Friday, January 25 at the Safari Texas Ranch. Chairman, Stewart Jacobson, and Immediate Past Chairman, Bruce Mercer aka “The Blues Brothers” kicked off the night dancing Belushi style to “Can’t Turn You Loose”. This fun-filled event is held each year to honor the leaders
and volunteers of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce. Mercer presented the Ursula Coates Award to Don Smithers. This award is given to an individual who has been a true resource and an asset to the Chamber and Chairman of the Board during their tenure. Smithers has supported the Fort Bend Chamber for many years, and “has stepped forward to participate and make successful more programs than you can imagine.” For his phenomenal
support of the numerous great causes in Fort Bend County, Don Kerstetter was awarded the Community Spirit Award. After the awards presentation, the over 400 guests made their way to the Blues Brothers Lounge for music, flaming desserts and casino and garage games. The party had just begun! Don’t miss this annual Fort Bend tradition. Save the date for the next Chairman’s Gala Saturday, January 31, 2014!
Auditorium was designed and constructed in 1918, not only to serve the school, but the entire Sugar Land community. One of its purposes was to have a place to hold the Chautauqua talks. Come to the historic and beautifully renovated Sugar Land Auditorium to celebrate the unique history of Sugar Land at the Chautauqua Talk on Tuesday, February 12, featuring former Sugar Land Mayor Bill Little. The auditorium is located at 226 Lakeview Drive on the Lakeview Elementary School campus, at the intersection of Lakeview and Wood Streets. For more information, please visit www.slheritage. org or www.slcaf.org.
Former Sugar Land Mayor Bill Little will be interviewed in the newly renovated Sugar Land Auditorium by SLHF Board Member Bruce Kelly. The interview promises to be filled with lots of funny stories as well as the trials and tribulations of Sugar Land transitioning from a company town to an incorporated city in 1959 - early 1960's.

The Houston Glass Show & Sale slated for February 15-16-17 The Houston Glass Show & Sale will be held February 15-16-17, 2013. This much anticipated event features the nation’s top dealers in Depression Era glass and always brings out the very best merchandise for sale. Through the years the show has been very well attended and customers from far away have come to the show in search of that elusive treasure
to complete their collections. In addition to the standard glass you will also find some fine quality Carnival glass and early pattern glass. On preview night February 15, you can be among the first to shop the show and to enjoy the wine and light hors d’ouevres that are offered for your enjoyment. It’s always my goal to save the best glass I have encountered in
the months leading up to the show and keep it back for this special event. This is the first show of the year for many of the dealers and they are eager to get back on the show circuit. There will be two buildings to explore. Building1 is nothing but glassware and pottery from circa 1920 through the 1970’s and in building 2 will feature an antique show with a great
variety from Silver, Quilts, Primitives, Advertising, Jewelry, and Czech art glass. The Preview hours are 6 pm -9 pm and the hours Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm. The Fort Bend Star announces the launch of a new online and on demand TV show in 2013 about real estate professional and companies in Fort Bend County. To be produced by Star Digital Studios, each weekly, 15-minute show will feature in-depth interviews, real estate agents and their listings, current mortgage rate information and real estate issues. The Fort Bend Real Estate/Hot Properties Show is already showing community interest from prospective advertisers who will be offered 30 second commercial spots which can also be produced by Star Digital Studios. Two interviews will each highlight a guest and the company with whom the person is associated. There will also be a photo segment for a real estate agent showcase of listings. Mortgage billboard ads will be included in the show and are available for purchase. These will keep prospective buyers and sellers on top of current rates for the hot property listings. “The new real estate show is being made available in conjunction with the existing real estate ad section in the Fort Bend Star,” said Michael Fredrickson, its managing editor. “We’re very excited to be expanding our impact as one of the advertising leaders along these lines, and we hope to be offering those already in this area and others moving to Fort Bend with valuable real estate information.” To inquire about advertising on the Fort Bend Real Estate/Hot Properties Show, contact Becky Hall at 281-690-4205 or Jerry Poscovsky at 713-569-4204 to schedule an appointment to see our demo DVD. Sugar Land Democrats honored National Day of Service Sugar Land Democrats Club held their monthly meeting in honor of President Obama’s National Day of Service. The President asked Americans to make an ongoing commitment in their communities focusing on the areas of health, faith, education, the environment, honoring our veterans and military families, community resilience, and economic development. Keynote speaker Mr. David Knox, Director of Communications for NRG Energy gave overview of current energy supply and demand in Texas, the future of energy supply, and the recent economic developments for the Parish plant in Fort Bend County. David Knox advised that NRG Energy and the Department of Energy are investing almost $800 million in the first-ever large scale carbon capture and sequestration plant at the Fort Bend County plant. Mr. Knox explained the health and environmental benefits to our community by way of the carbon capture project and their plans to meet the new EPA requirements to reduce Mercury emissions by 2015.
Shown (l-r) are: Mr. "Q" Imam; Co-Chair Sugar Land Democrats Club; David Knox, NRG Energy; State Rep. Ron Reynolds; and Deron Patterson, Co-Chair Sugar Land Democrats Club. State Representative Ron Reynolds HD-27 gave update on the Legislative session. Mr. Reynolds noted how NRG Energy is making sizable investments in solar energy in California, but none in the state of Texas. Texas has incredible sun energy resources; however, the priorities of the Texas government to date have been oil, gas, and wind. Mr. Reynolds advised the top priorities for this Legislative session would be educational funding,
transportation, and water. Rep. Reynolds asked the members to support his bill to create single member voting districts for the Fort Bend Independent School District. Creating single member districts would create more opportunities for diversity on our school board. Today’s FBISD board of seven has only one minority, whereas, the school children of FBISD are African-American 31%, Hispanic 25%, AsianAmerican 22%, and Whites 22%.
