Sustainable farm, Loam Agronomics, opens in Richmond

he Edible Group, the parent company that owns Edible Earth Resources, Agmenity and Farmstead, have begun planting and developing its 288-acre sustainable farm in Richmond: Loam Agronomics. This farm is one of the largest farms of its kind in the Houston-area. Right now, the farm is focused on production for its CSA program. In the future, the land will be used to host activities, events and educational programming. On the farm, the team is pushing themselves to create net gains for the earth and for the community. In doing this, Loam considers the impacts they have on the soil when tilling, on water when irrigating, on wildlife when planting, on people when employing,

on the climate when delivering and on landfills when purchasing. Loam will develop new techniques each year to improve the impact they have on the world, all while making sure they have a business that will exist for many years. The farm is currently in the process of becoming USDA Organic certified. The owners are members of TOFGA, Go Texan and the Organic Horticulture Benefits Alliance For the CSA (or community supported agriculture) program, the team is focused on making the process of finding and purchasing farm-fresh foods easy. A CSA is a simple program (common across the country), where members buy a share of the produce grown, and pick up farm-fresh food (from a designated drop site location) each and every week. CSA members receive much more than food, though.
