India’s first double-decker flyover to open soon in Mumbai walk over from Kurla station to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The MMRDA overcame many hurdles, including court cases, resettlement and rehabilitation issues and encroachments, to finally complete the SCLR. Over the past few years, it managed to rehabilitate more than 3,500 affected families from residential, commercial and religious structures which fell in the path of the SCLR. for more information visit

The flyover is part of the 3.5-km SantacruzChembur Link Road (SCLR), which is in the final stages of completion. The entire project is expected to provide another major east-west connectivity to Mumbaikars, said an official of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The SCLR will ease traffic snarls at Chembur, Vakola,

Sion and Kurla suburbs besides decongesting the Western Express and Eastern Express highways which cut through the city. “The SCLR will mean huge time saving for commuters. Now they can travel from Santacruz to Chembur in barely 20 minutes, compared to nearly 90 minutes currently during peak hours,” the official said. Commuters can take the Vakola Junction Road, near Santacruz, for accessing the

upper level of the doubledecker flyover to reach the Eastern Express Highway. From the lower level, commuters can access Kurla and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The SCLR with six lanes will carry more than 80,000 vehicles daily, while the upper and lower levels of the double-decker flyover provide four lanes for the up and down traffic. There are also footpaths on the lower level to enable people to

International medical fair opens in Mumbai Forever News reporter

An international trade fair highlighting the growth potential of India’s $100 billion healthcare sector will begin in Mumbai Friday. More than 450 exhibitors from 20 countries and over 8,000 visitors from 22 countries are expected to take part in the trade fair, organisers said. The 20th Medical Fair India 2014 (MFI 2014), the country’s oldest and largest international trade exhibition and conference on diagnostics, medical equipment and technology, will be held March 14-16, at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon. Jointly organized by Germany’s Messe Düsseldorf and its Indian subsidiary, the expo would serve as a platform for exchange of

ideas on current issues concerning the sector. With rising incomes and growing literacy, healthcare spending in India is expected to rise by 12 percent per annum. An estimate suggests that by 2017 healthcare spending could contribute 9 percent of GDP and employ around 10 million people. The healthcare sector is growing at a rate of about 20 percent annually and will be worth $100 billion by 2015 end. The primary growth areas are the medical equipment segment, teleradiology or a means of electronic transmission of radiological images such as X-rays, CTs and MRIs from one location to another for the purposes of interpretation and/or consultation, healthcare BPOs and pathology outsourcing to name a few.

Self regulation best option for TV ratings: I&B Ministry

The government has recently notified TRP guidelines that cover a detailed procedure for registration of rating agencies, eligibility norms, terms and conditions of registration, cross holdings, methodology for audience measurement, complaint redressal mechanisms, sale and use of the audit, disclosure, reporting requirements and action against non compliance. This was disclosed by Mr Bimal Julka, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, at the opening of the 15th FICCI FRAMES Conference. FRAMES is a three day global convention organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). It covers the entire gamut of media and entertainment like films, broadcast, digital entertainment, animation, gaming, and visual effects. About 200 Indian and overseas speakers will address nearly 2000 Indian and 800

foreign delegates from the media and entertainment industry. This year marks the 15th anniversary of FICCI FRAMES and assumes importance since it comes just before the general elections. In his opening remarks, Mr Uday Shankar, Chairman, FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee and CEO, Star India, complimented the FICCI team for putting up such a spectacular

Edit ... Delhi HC upholds death for 4 in 16/12 gang-rape

One of the most heinous and nerve breaking 16/12 Delhi gang rape case on the night of December 16, 2012, the paramedic student was gang-raped in a moving bus in south Delhi after the convicts lured her and her 28-year-old male friend, who was also assaulted, on board the vehicle. Which come with a finest judgment by a bench of justices Reva Khetrapal and Pratibha Rani confirmed the sentence of Mukesh Singh, 26, Akshay Thakur, 28, Pawan Gupta, 19, and Vinay Sharma, 20, saying their crime falls in the rarest-of-the rare category, which warrants death penalty. Normally these cases run for years to see the judgment. This case set an example for the fastest judgment in the recent times that too the trial was completed in less than nine months. Thanks to the judiciary system by setting new bench mark in settling the case. The emotions of the victim’s mother could seen through her words “We have got full faith in the judiciary. We had expected this verdict. But the ultimate satisfaction will be when the convicts meet to their ultimate fate,” the mother of the 23-year-old paramedic told the media outside court room after the verdict was delivered. Most interesting fact about the case is that the appeals of the convicts are dismissed by the bench as the case is not fit for an appeal. The parents of the victim were also present in the court at the time of pronouncement of the verdict. The trial court had on September 13, last year awarded capital punishment to the four, saying they be “hanged till death” as the “beastly” and “hair-raising” manner in which the crime was committed against the girl fell in the rarest-ofthe-rare category. Following countrywide protests, the government had brought in stringent legislation that broadened the definition of what constituted sexual assault against women. After the verdict, the lower court later sent the case to the high court for confirmation of the death sentence. It also granted 30 days time to the convicts to file their appeal before the high court. - G. Subramanian
