A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
It all started in a converted Chinese laundry on Chicago’s north side in 1959. No one could know that by the next century, The Second City would have established itself as the premier comedy institution in the world. With theaters in Chicago, Toronto, Detroit, and Las Vegas; training centers in each of those cities as well as Los Angeles; a corporate division that offers creative services to the business world; a TV and film division; and touring troupes that bring its unique brand of improv-based sketch comedy all over the world, The Second City has become, in the words of the New York Times, “A Comedy Empire.” The touring troupes at The Second City have been the springboard for generations of the comedy world’s best and brightest. Its alumni list includes Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, John Candy, Martin Short, George Wendt, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Chris
Farley, Ryan Stiles, Mike Myers, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey and more. In addition to stellar talent, Second City’s other chief export is comedy that is both hilarious and thought provoking; smart and silly; sophisticated and wild. The concept is simple: six actors augmented by a musical accompanist and a sound and lighting director perform a twoact revue featuring sketch comedy, songs and improvisation. Drawing from the vast archives of material that Second City has created over 40 plus years, The Second City touring companies are also creating on-the-spot, topical comedy that changes with every performance. The diversity of Second City performances are matched by the diversity of its venues, as the company has taken its act on the road to theatres, festivals, colleges, and performing arts centers in every state of the union and to international audiences from Singapore to Vienna.
SANDY MARSHALL (Director) is proud to be directing for The Second City. Recent directing credits include HERO and Play (i.O. Chicago), NewPlay (Magnet NYC), and MelanComedy (PIT NYC). Sandy co-founded the comedy ensemble Schadenfreude in 1997, performs with Second City Communications and appears in lots of films (www.sandymarshall.com). Thanks to family and friends. Special thanks to Mayor Daley.
*LAURA HUM (Stage Manager) is delighted to be joining Second City and returning to her hometown of Chicago. She recently ventured to the mystical lands near Philadelphia as the company manager for the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and stage manager for their WillPower Tour. She also recently stage managed in the not-somystical and far more cow-ridden lands of Columbus, OH, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree from The Ohio State University. MATT GRIFFO (Musical Director), from Upstate NY, has music directed at theaters all across Chicago, performed with the Second City Musical Improv House Ensemble and at festivals, comedy clubs, theaters and music venues across the Northeast and Midwest. He is excited to join the cast of Greenco and would like to thank Erin for being a constant support in his life. Thank you Erin. You can check out Griffo’s comedy music at mattgriffo.com BARRY HITE couldn’t be happier to join this talented lot of folks. Haling from rough and tumble Mechanicsville, Virginia, he performs with several ensembles around Chicago including Bullet Lounge, Family Tree House
Boast Accident, The Improvised Shakespeare Company and Close Quarters. He thanks Second City for this opportunity, his family and friends for their support and Laura for everything. MICHAEL KOSINSKI is so happy to perform with The Second City Touring Company! Prior to touring on land, he toured the seas of Hawaii, the Caribbean, Alaska, Bermuda and Europe with The Second City aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines and is happy to answer any questions about cruising you may have. In Chicago, Mike has performed at ComedySportz, the i.O. Theater, The Annoyance, and The Playground. Big thanks to his cast mates, teachers and directors past and present!
