Meet T.J. and Brooke

“An Irish Fairytale” 1. HOW DID THE TWO OF YOU FIRST MEET? A.I was managing the Red Lobster on Merchants Drive when it was being remodeled. TJ was a crew leader from New York. I gave him my phone number before I went on a week long vacation and we had our first date that same week. He moved to Tennessee a month later.

2. W HEN DID YOU FIRST KNOW IT WAS TRUE LOVE? A. That’s a funny story, actually. Our first date he met me outside of the hotel pool where he was staying. He came straight up and kissed me. Instead of being freaked out like I should have been, it felt more like something from a movie or book you read, something that was meant to be. When I drove home that night I called my mom and told her that this felt like something special.

3. TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL! A. Well I had been waiting for it to happen for weeks. I knew he had the ring and was just waiting to ask. We went to the renaissance fair in Harriman, TN, and I thought he would do it there. He didn’t. It was a hot May day in Tennessee so after no proposal I was ready to go home. He said let’s stop and feed the ducks at Melton Hill like we did when we first met. I said ok and he got me duck food out of the machine. I was carelessly tossing it into the water ready to go. Then, we walked out on the boat launch and he pulled out the box. He was shaking, he was so nervous. He got down on one knee and said “So will you marry me?” I said, “Yes, of course.” Later, he told me that he almost put my ring in the duck food. He was glad he didn’t after he saw me slinging it in the water.

4. WHAT INSPIRED YOUR WEDDING THEME? A. I have always loved books about other worlds, fairies, and creatures. Also, TJ is Irish. His great great grandfather came over on a boat. So we took those two things and the beautiful Great Smokey Mountains and decided on an Irish Fairy Woodland Theme.

5. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR WEDDING? A. T he flowers. They really made the experience over-the-top. We didn’t do a lot of decorating, but our table scapes, huge bouquets, wedding arch, and of course my flower crown, paired with the location, took you right into a story book. Leslie Britt works miracles.

6. B ASED ON YOUR EXPERIENCE, DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES? A. Hire a Wedding Coordinator. I am not just saying that because Farrah Williams-Deck is such a great person either. I am saying it because the day of the wedding, I didn’t worry about the décor, or the vendors arriving on time, or where everyone needed to stand. She was there along with her assistant and they relieved so much stress. She even personally delivered our plates at the reception. Your vendors make a big impact on your day. Also, enjoy every minute you can. It really is over in the blink of an eye. We didn’t want to stop dancing!
