The Festival-opening St. Patrick Parade celebrates the anniversary of the world’s first St. Patrick Parade here in 1601.

In 2017 History Professor Dr. Michael Francis discovered the first documented Saint Patrick Day event in the “New World” was held in St. Augustine in 1600, and the first St. Patrick Day parade/procession in the WHOLE WORLD was right here in 1601. Both were initiated by the Spanish Colony’s Irish vicar Ricardo Artur (Richard Arthur).

Originating in the Scottish Highlands during the 11th Century, Highland Games have long been a favorite spectacle, and they’re sure to be a major draw again at the 2025 St. Augustine Celtic Music & Heritage Festival.

You’ll see some of the most impressive kilt-wearing athletes around challenge one another in traditional Scottish heavy athletics and strength competitions, including the Scottish weight throw, and the always entertaining caber toss.

Members of the general public age 21+ are invited to sign up by Noon in the Highland Games area for this amateur event.

Both the male and female winners of the amateur competition will be awarded a $50 Gift Card to ABC Fine Liquor and Spirits

St. Augustine Highland Games are produced by the Foundation for Scottish Athletics

The 2025 Parade Grand Marshal will be Kay Burtin and the St. Augustine Art Association, celebrating its 100th anniversary. Kay Burtin goes above and beyond to better her community in St. Augustine. She took over as Administrator of the Art Association in 1989. When the Association couldn't pay the bills, Kay dipped into her own pocket to keep the organization afloat. She established the Art Association's Permanent Collection (which has grown to over 500 pieces), facilitated the "Colonial Folk Art & Crafts Fair" in 1988, started the STAAA newsletter in 1989, and so much more.

Founded on January 18, 1924, the St. Augustine Art Association holds the distinction of being the 13th oldest continually operating art association in the United States. What began as a small group of creatives meeting in the Ximenez-Fatio House has grown into an artistic haven, fulfilling a pivotal role in supporting and promoting the arts in our community.

Located in the heart of Downtown’s Historic District, the association's gallery is open year-round and free to the public. Recognized as the epicenter of the local visual art community, the St. Augustine Art Association plays a pivotal role in supporting artistic excellence. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and outreach, it contributes to the cultural vibrancy of the region. The Association's outreach initiatives extend their artistic influence to various groups, including the blind, community businesses, elder groups, and local public-school students.
