walking trips/ travel

We have some exciting new adventures for adults this summer! First we have some walking tours led by Richard Kronick. And secondly we have some vacations scheduled for 2019! This will give you plenty of time to save up the money! The first one is overseas to Venice, Florence and Rome ITALY! The next one is here in the United States and has you traveling through “Canyon Country”.

Richard has planned and led more than 40 architecture tours in the Midwest and Europe and is Editor-In-Chief of Minneapolis Historical, an online guide to historic architecture. He enjoys offering architecture history tours in partnership with Community Education because it allows participants to experience places that they would never go to see otherwise.

Walking Tour: St. Paul Cathedral & Summit Avenue Homes Led By Richard Kronick We will tour the interior of the beautiful St. Paul Cathedral, then walk several blocks up Summit Avenue to see grand houses designed by Minnesota State Capitol architect Cass Gilbert. We’ll discuss the James J. Hill House, then drive a few blocks to tour the interior of a privately-owned 1894 house designed by Clarence Johnston, Minnesota’s most prolific architect. Please park on Selby Ave. near the St. Paul Cathedral, not in the Cathedral parking lot. Class Fee: $19/ ind $35/pair Sat • Aug 11 • 9:00am-12:15pm • St. Paul

Walking Tour: Nicollet Mall Led By Richard Kronick Nicollet Avenue has been Minneapolis’ main shopping street for more than 100 years. In the 1960’s, eight blocks of the street were closed to automobile traffic, creating the Nicollet Mall. The 2017 renovation created a greener, more pedestrian-friendly street. In addition to the history of the Mall itself, we’ll discover the histories of more than a dozen structures that line the mall, from 1898’s Renaissance Square to Orchestra Hall to Peavey Plaza. The Nicollet Mall tour will begin under the main entrance canopy on the west end of the Voya Financial Building at 20 S Washington Ave. Parking available at meters and ramps around the area. Class Fee: $19/ind $35/pair Sat • Aug 25 • 10:00am-12:00pm • Minneapolis
