The white city The morning after, I meet my guide in a traditional Café, a beautiful place that provides a glimpse of the glorious past of the city, with its bastion in the heart of the centre. We start the tour right here, at the Bastion of Saint Rémy, which overlooks the city. The majestic staircase and the entrance gate are closed for works, but we take a detour that leads up to the wonderful piazza from where we have an incredible view over the port and the sea. My guide is a walking encyclopaedia on Cagliari and gives me a very detailed account of its history. The exbaroque façade of the Duomo, for example, was not in line with the demands of Mussolini, so in the 1930s, a brand new one was made in Pisan style. The inside of the church is particularly fascinating. The Archaeological Museum We continue our tour with a visit to the Archaeological Museum. From 1700 to 700 B.C., Sardinia was inhabited by the Nuragic people. The remains of nuraghe can be found throughout the island. These are stone structures ranging from tombs to more fortified settlements with towers and surrounding habitats. Unfortunately, it appears that
