Sitting and reflecting on what I have done or not done, and the events that happened in 2011, I realised just how fast time flies. But wait a minute...I think, more than time flying, it is the modern life-style we are living now that rushes us on each day. Isn’t it a paradox that we are all living now?

Nov/Dec 2011

We have bigger houses and cars, but our view towards people different from us gets smaller and smaller. We have faster technology that can send emails and smses at the speed of lightning, but we have no time to live and enjoy life. We accumulate degrees after degrees but somehow our common sense dwindles over time. We make a living, not a life. Well, as we enter into 2012, let this New Year be a time of enjoying being simple again by laughing, taking time to say ‘I love you’ to those who

matter most to us, by reaching out to a friend in need, etc. How many of us really take time to laugh loud and freely until we have to stop and grasp for breath? How many of us look at a child, a parent, a spouse, a friend and appreciate him/her for who he/she is? How many of us wake up in the mornings and exclaim, ‘Thank God for this wonderful life and this beautiful day!’? Let 2012 be a year of living fully joyful, fully at peace. As I look back at 2011, I become aware that there is no point of looking back at the past. I have a full year of 2012 ahead of me. I want to live life! I want to be simple and live for what really matters. And so, 2012... Are you ready? Because here I come!

Verbum Dei Family Singapore Silent Retreat @ Taygaytay, Philippines 24th to 28th November 2011

Our new Tagaytay Retreat House

In this retreat, there were representatives from the various groups of Verbum Dei Singapore- Saturday Couples’, Tuesday Group, Sunday Couples’ and Holy Hour Group. The theme of this year’s silent retreat was ‘Emmanuel’. We went to our own Verbum Dei Retreat House for the retreat and we were the very first ones to have the privilege to stay in the new retreat house. It was a good time to withdraw from the busy life in Singapore and to spend quality time with God.

Mission Trip to Bicol 9th to 17th December 2011 Grace was invited by the Parish of Holy Spirit (Singapore) to be the Spiritual Director to the youths of the parish as they embarked on their mission trip to Bicol, Philippines. 26 youths from 15 to 16 years old spent their time working with the poor people who were victims of natural calamities such as typhoons, earthquakes and flooding. They were relocated from their homes to these shelters. The youths did carolling and gave away groceries to the poor. They also taught kids in elementary school and even helped to paint the school. They had Christmas parties to bring the Xmas cheer to the children. Every evening, Grace led them to quiet reflection with the Word of God and then they had sharing about their experiences during the day.
