FMF Magazine - covering the central Hunterdon area’s premier youth football and cheer program

I hope this special edition Golf Issue finds everyone enjoying the last days of summer. This August marks the fourth year for FMF's Kickoff Classic Golf Outing to raise money for our new football field and the FMF Complex. Despite some ominous weather early on, the day was a complete success in every way! Nearly fifty golfers spent a fun day on the links, enjoyed food and drinks with friends and FMF Family members, AND raised money to support our kids. Every year as the date approaches I think to myself, "this has to be the year when we aren't able to top the last outing." and every year I am happily proved wrong. Sheila Beckman and her team outdid themselves again and provided our golfers with another great experience. We even had some of our players participate this year. Thank you to Sheila and everyone who helped to put on The Best Damn Golf Event in the Land!

FROM THE EDITOR

I also cannot say Thank You enough to all of our event sponsors. Especially our Platinum Level sponsors: The Silver Oak Lerning Center and the Stevenson Family. Without our sponsors supporting the event, we would not be able to raise the needed funds to complete and improve the brand new FMF Complex. All of the money raised from this year's event will go directly to fund the completion of the new FMF Complex game and practice fields as well as completion of the new Fieldhouse so that our teams have a place to play both this season and many seasons to come. We are also introducing a new FMF Extended Cheer Training Squad this season. The training squad is something new for girls who would like to continue to cheer after the regular season is over. It is an opportunity for the girls to continue to learn and improve their cheer skills throughout the winter. And finally, we are introducing a new FMF Mobile App which will help our families remain up to date on the happenings throughout the FMF Family. It's very exciting times here at FMF... and now it's full speed ahead into the 201 3 season!!! Sincerely, Craig Torres Vice President – FMF Managing Editor – FMF Magazine

Our Vision - Who we are

FMF continues to be the premier football and cheer program in the central Hunterdon region while remaining family-friendly.

Our Mission - Why we are here

FMF provides the most on-field football and cheer experience of any program in the area. Our graduates leave FMF with a competitive advantage as they move on to High School having been taught the fundamental skills, concepts and strategies necessary to experience personal and team success.

Our Values - What we believe

* FMF believes in structured training for our athletes in a safe, challenging, family-friendly environment. * FMF believes that team success is a by-product of the individual development of each athlete as they progress through the program. * FMF believes in developing each of our athletes to their personal potential - physically, mentally and emotionally.

All FMF Football teams are affiliated with USAFootball, the youth football development partner of the NFL. All FMF Cheer teams are affiliated with the Universal CheerAssociation (UCA), the same governing body that all High School Cheer teams in the area compete under.

ABOUT FMF

Originally founded in 1967 under the name Flemington Midget Football , FMF is one of the oldest youth football organizations in the area. From the organization's founding until it was restructured in 2010, FMF was exclusively referred to by its mascot's name “Flemington Pioneers”. Since 2010, FMF has expanded from four football teams participating in one league to ten football teams participating in up to three leagues while also adding a National Champion Extended Season cheer squad.

FMF Magazine - covering the central Hunterdon area’s premier youth football and cheer program AMERICAN LEGION PARKING LOT Just a reminder that we are using the American Legion Parking Lot as guests. Please be courteous and clean up any items you see in the area. We want to continue to be allowed to park in the lot and leaving it a mess is a sure way to lose that.

VOLUNTEER HOURS Please don't forget to sign up online to fullfill your volunteer hours. This is your organization. It works best if each family rolls up their sleeves and jumps in with both feet to get their hands dirty (and any other saying you can think of). It really is a great way to meet people and help out the children. PICNIC AND PEP RALLY SUNDAY 8/25: Sunday 8/25 from 4pm to 7pm at Jimmy Wilson Memorial Field. In keeping with tradition, we ask each family to provide their own food, drinks and chairs. (No adult beverages please) and FMF will provide the music and party atmosphere! It's one of the few times each year that the entire FMF Family can get together and celebrate! All boys and girls on our teams will be announced and a full organization photo will be taken. Join us to kick off the 201 3 season in style!

Fourth Annual FMF Kickoff Classic golf event at the Copper Hill Country Club.

This year marked the first ever time one of our current athletes participated in the event. DJ Stevenson played as part of his father’s foursome and had a great time golfing with his Dad. We hope to see more FMF athletes inspired to take part in next year’s event to help raise money, not just for their benefit, but for the benefit of the players who will come after them.

JAMES L. "JIMMY" WILSON Our Number One Fan

IN REMEMBRANCE

Jimmy Wilson left a lasting memory with everyone who visited Pioneer Field throughout the 1 980's and early 1 990's. While his wheelchair kept him from taking part on the field, it couldn't keep him from being part of the team. At the end of every summer, like the changing of the seasons, Jimmy was there to usher in football season. He was as much a part of the Pioneer family as the crack of pads echoing through the crisp autumn air and the roar of the crowd on game day. For close to a decade, Jimmy never missed a game, indeed, he never missed a practice in all of his time with us. His love for the game and for the team was infectious and will be forever remembered. In 1 994, after his passing, the organization recognized Jimmy's contribution to our family by naming the playing field after him and retiring the number one jersey, in memory of their #1 fan.

JOSEPH YASHKAS

6/4/85 - 4/29/00 : Forever a Pioneer Joey Yashkas was a Pioneer through and through. He played football for the program and was a great teammate. Joey was a key member of the team from his peewee days through his eigth grade season. As much as he loved football and his teammates, Joey also loved racing motorcycles. It was this love that took him from us far too soon. After the tragic motorcycle accident that took his life in 2000, the organization retired his number 55 and decreed that in remembrance of Joey and Jimmy, their numbers 1 and 55 be painted in the corner of the endzone for every home game so that they will always be part of our family.

As of January 201 3, long time member Jean Manz retired from the FMF Board. The organization would like to thank Jean for her years of dedicated service as head of the spiritwear committee and one day events, including the preseason picnic, picture day, and our annual homecoming festivities. Her departure will be greatly felt in 201 3 and in future years. Jean will now have more time to pursue her other passion, competitive running. If you see Jean running the streets near JP Case middle School, be sure to wave and tell her thanks for her service to FMF.

Thank you Jean! Interested in becoming a member of the board? Hard working, motivated individuals are needed to help continue the over 45-year tradition of excellence at FMF. Board membership is also an opportunity to help shape the future of the premier football and cheer program in the central Hunterdon region.
