Karen’s story We came to Italy to celebrate our honeymoon and share some personally-written vows on the first anniversary of the day we were engaged. I was so inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Italy and the amazing food! We started in Tuscany and then made our way down to the Amalfi Coast. My favorite memory from the vacation is definitely the day of the photo shoot! We got all dressed up wedding-style to take some very romantic photos in the gorgeous setting of Positano. Walking around town with people shouting “Auguri!” (best wishes), our vows on our private terrace and an amazing meal at sunset - it was all captured by Flytographer for us to remember forever.

Sabrina’s story We are high school sweethearts and have been together for a decade. We spent our honeymoon in Greece: Athens, Mykonos and Santorini! We were inspired to go to Greece because we wanted a variety of experiences, like relaxing by the beach, exploring, seeing ruins, wine tasting, trying all the food, and so on! We also had never been to Europe together before. We have a few favourite memories: a sunset tour in Santorini; renting an ATV; going wine tasting; and Flytographer. Funny story: we had to stop our wine tasting because our luggage compartment on our ATV was so full from the bottles we purchased that we had to head back to our resort. To top it off, we had to buy an additional bag to check for our flight home, because we didn’t have any space for all the wine. Oops!

Eat • Don’t let the fancy restaurants pull you in. Your money is best spent at the authentic Greek taverns and restaurants along the waterside for great food and amazing views. • Don’t leave the island without sampling the bounty of the surrounding sea that will make you wonder if you’ve ever really tasted seafood before. A 2-for-1 dinner and a show, Taverna Katina (Ammoudi Port, Oia) serves up some of the finest seafood in Santorini with stunning sunset views to cap off a picture-perfect day. • Skip the crowds and eat like a local at Kantouni (Central Square, Pyrgos) where you’ll find nothing but delectably simple Santorini classics. • A can’t-miss dish, fritters are Santorini’s ode to tomatoes, prized bites of joy that will make you see just why the locals enjoy these fruits for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

See • Soak in all the island has to offer on the famed hike from Fira to Oia. • Sail through the caldera on a morning or sunset catamaran tour to find out how the red and white beaches got their name, and see the sparkle of the Mediterranean up close and personal. • Endless shades of red, and pink, and orange, the Santorini sunset is one of the most unfathomably beautiful sights you’ll witness in your lifetime. Though Oia is said to boast the most stunning views, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere along the island’s western coast where the splendour of the sinking sun doesn’t steal your breath away.

FLYTOGRAPHER.COM • 19

20 • PASSPORT | THE MAGIC OF TRAVEL

Do • Take advantage of island life and spend a few hours frolicking in the blue-green waters of the Aegean Sea to cool off from the volcanic heat of the black sand. • For your daily dose of adventure, cannonball off a catamaran and swim to a hot spring, or cliff dive from Amoudi Bay for a heart-hammering shot of adrenaline. • Indulge in the local grape! Drink in the sunset on an evening wine tasting tour, or share a toast with new friends at a local winery - it’s always 5 o’clock in Santorini.

Lauren’s story Hawaii has always had a special place in our hearts. I feel like it’s magical. Worries disappear and our hearts are automatically filled with aloha once our feet touch the island. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of going there with our families as kids, or from one of our first big trips together, or even celebrating part of our honeymoon there - whatever it is, to my husband and me, it feels like we’re home.

When we found out we were pregnant, we automatically knew we’d love to travel one more time, as just the two of us. Having our babymoon on the islands was important to us and we couldn’t picture not celebrating it there. I thought of surprising my husband with an anniversary gift of having a babymoon photo shoot in Hawaii. Our friend recommended Flytographer and I’m so happy she did. We love our photos so much, and it was great way to capture our last trip before there are three of us!

What to Pack in Your Honeymoon Bag { beyond the essentials }

28 • PASSPORT | THE MAGIC OF TRAVEL

Falcon in New York City for Flytographer FLYTOGRAPHER.COM • 29

The vows are declared, the cake’s been cut, and the songs are danced — it’s time to leap into the best part: your honeymoon! We want your first holiday together as newlyweds to as be memorable as possible, so we’ve rounded up our ten favourite must-pack items for your honeymoon beyond your passport and bikini.

1. Bedroom travel kit For a romantic surprise, tuck a little kit of bedroom fun into your bag. Include goodies like kissable body oil, body cream and powder, a feather applicator to dust that body powder in all the right places, and a candle or two to set the mood. We fancy the ready-made kit from the Kama Sutra company. All you have to add is your imagination. (kamasutra.com)

2. Books to read and share Add some intellectual stimulation to your honeymoon by packing two books for you both to read and share. Each of you should choose a book you’ve been dying to read, and when you’re done, swap books and read your spouse’s pick. Discussing the books is a great way to get the cerebral stimulation and deep conversation flowing - intelligence is sexy!

3. A custom playlist The modern version of the mixtape, load up one of your devices with a fun or romantic playlist with your favourite songs, including those that got heavy rotation at your wedding. You’ll be able to relive all those fresh, fun wedding moments during the trip to your destination.

FLYTOGRAPHER.COM • 31

4. Carry-on cocktail kit An adorable carry-on cocktail kit from W&P Design is a fun addition to your packing list. Whether your jam is more an Old Fashioned, gin and tonic, or Bloody Mary, this is your ticket to whipping up the perfect drink mid-flight. Each kit contains everything you need — except the booze, get that from your flight attendant! — to mix up two tasty cocktails. (wandpdesign. com)

5. Silk robe or lingerie Time to bust out those sexy silk underthings you were showered with at your bachelorette or bachelor party! There’s no better time to feel sexy and look luxurious than during your honeymoon, and lacy lingerie will get you there in no time. Let those silky PJs take you from nighttime to daytime: enjoy a late lounge and definitely order breakfast in bed for two.

6. Reusable water bottles If you don’t already have these, get two reusable water bottles on your wedding registry ASAP! You’ll not only be doing something nice for Mother Nature by minimizing your use of plastic bottles, you’ll stay hydrated (and happy and healthy, too!) no matter where your honeymoon takes you. S’well bottles come in a wide range of colours and sizes, can be personalized, keep your beverages hot for 12 hours and cold for 24 hours, and the company is committed to donating to help provide clean water to vulnerable communities. We suggest picking up the S’well 25-oz bottle, which can hold an entire bottle of wine for those romantic honeymoon nights. (swellbottle.com)

7. The Little Black Book of Kama Sutra The Kama Sutra is a classic for a reason — the ancient Indian Hindu text is still referred to as the definitive guide to getting it on. The classic text has been updated by L.L. Long for the modern lover in a small, easy to pack, discreet little black book perfect for spicing things up under the sheets.

8. Sun protection Whether you’re planning a beach getaway or a city escape, sun protection is an often overlooked must. Sunscreen can be pricey and difficult to find when away from home, so packing it is the smartest option. A painful sunburn is a sure-fire — and completely preventable — way to derail your honeymoon. Besides, rubbing sunscreen on your honey is way sexier than slathering aloe vera on their beet-red skin. Pack a hat, pack sunglasses, pack plenty of sunscreen, and have some fun under those sunny skies!

9. Stationery Keep up the loving vibes by writing each other love letters throughout your honeymoon (and beyond). Pack a small notebook (or even just a stack of Post-It notes) and a nice pen, and write each other daily love letters. After the honeymoon, you’ll be able to look back on these sweet words for years to come to reignite those butterflies in your stomach.

10. At least one amazing outfit Even if glamming it up isn’t your typical style, a romantic night out will be even more memorable when it’s enjoyed during your honeymoon. Pack one special outfit that makes you feel amazing and then head out for an intimate dinner for two, a night at the theatre, or champagne at a rooftop bar ... and don’t forget to capture your love with a photo or two!

Magical Proposal in Portugal

FLYTOGRAPHER.COM • 37

Jamil’s story Meryem and I met in Hong Kong, where she had been living for several years, and I was there in the second year of a temporary work assignment. The first time I saw her, she was sitting at a table in the back of a small bar that was directly across the street from my flat. A conversation turned into an impromptu night out that turned into several trips together that I never wanted to end. So I had to make sure it turned into a lifetime together. We travelled to Morocco to spend time with her family over the holidays. We wanted to add another destination to the trip since we love to travel. Once we booked our trip and I knew that we would be celebrating the New Year in Lisbon, I wanted to propose on January 1 to start the year off right.

On New Year’s Day, we woke up early to embark on our “Moorish Architecture Tour” starting at Belem Tower (or at least that is what Meryem thought). We arrived at the tower a bit after sunrise and the sky was beautiful. Once we were in the right spot, I got down on one knee and began professing my love for her ... only she took two steps back. I was conscious of the prior directions from my proposal coordinating call to stay on my knee as long as possible for the photos, so I stopped professing my love and asked her to come back! Instead of continuing to recite the best proposal ever ( haha - slight exaggeration), I began to ask Meryem several questions. “Can you stand still?” “Can you look at the ring?” “Did you say yes?” Fortunately, she clarified that she did say yes, but she doesn’t remember anything else I said!

Natural beauty Mark Twain once said, “Mauritius was made first, and then heaven; and that heaven was copied after Mauritius.” It’s hard to believe that so much beauty can be packed into such a small island. In addition to its numerous white sand beaches, Mauritius is home to the Black River Gorges National Park, a spacious forest which houses gorgeous native ecosystems and wildlife along with panoramic views and stunning waterfalls. In the small village of Chamarel, check out the Seven Coloured Earths, a stunning display of polychromatic sand dunes that will leave you in awe of the beauty of nature.

Proposal in

Photos by: Mankica in Zagreb for Flytographer

FLYTOGRAPHER.COM • 57

Neil’s story Croatia had been on our travel bucket list for some time, so when Tanith and I had finally saved up our pennies, it was time to take a cue from Dr. Seuss and go off to great places. Sadly, our original travel partners, my sister and her husband, couldn’t join us. My sister did give me one tip though: she said we absolutely have to book a session with Flytographer. This idea neatly tied in with my top secret plans to get engaged abroad. So, I started liaising with Liss, my Flytographer Shoot Concierge, and Mankica, the local photographer in Croatia. Together, we orchestrated the perfect proposal in Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square (Park Zrinjevac), Zagreb. I had told Tanith that I’d made a restaurant booking – that’s how I got her to dress smartly without spoiling the element of surprise.

As we were walking along, a “random friendly stranger” approached us and asked if we would mind posing for a photograph. We happily obliged, of course. But the “stranger” was Mankica all along, and at the opportune moment, when she’d positioned us just right beneath a beautiful music pavilion smack in the middle of the park, all I had to do was go down on one knee, turn toward Tanith and ask her if she’d like to be my travel partner – for life. As you can imagine, at this point I felt rather “inebriated on life,” so I honestly don’t remember much of the rest of the hour-long photo shoot we had with Mankica, walking throughout the city. Luckily, I have these stunning pictures to retrace our steps and relive the moment!

Neil’s Top Tips • Agava Restaurant on the famed, bustling Tkalčićeva Street is where we had our engagement dinner and is a “can’t go wrong” spot for fine local cuisine. Also, Mundoaka Street Food, just off the main square of Ban Jelačić, is great! • Be sure to walk Lenuci’s Horseshoe, a 3-km walk connecting lush green parks and interesting architecture built in a kind of U-shape around the city. • Check out the impressive Dolac market, and take 55 seconds to ride the funicular to Upper Town for some breathtaking views of the city. • Zagreb boasts many highlights, so renting a bicycle is a cool way to cover some more ground - we recommend using Pedaloo!

Tokyo A city known more for its frenetic energy than as a natural seducer, Tokyo packs a subtle but effective punch in the romance department. Savour the freshest sushi or tastiest ramen at a cozy bar, and then stroll hand-in-hand through an urban garden full of babbling brooks and rustling maples. Stay at a traditional ryokan (guest house), complete with intimate tatami mat rooms, Japanese baths, and a calming tea ceremony. If you time your travels for sakura season, enjoy a kiss or two (or three - who’s counting?) under billows of pink cherry blossoms raining down on you ... the romance factor could not be higher.

Lake Louise Surrounded by the majestic Rocky Mountains and a glittering turquoise lake, you can’t help but feel overwhelmed with joy, especially when you can experience this view with your favourite person. A solid hike on one of its many trails will get the heart rate going, and the exercise will put a glow in your cheeks and a song in your soul. In summer, canoes abound if you’re feeling up to testing out Pierre Berton’s famous quote. Be sure to book a room in one of the most romantic hotels in the world, the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, to really sweep your lover off their feet.

Palm-lined beaches tailor-made for lounging by day and lively clubs to spend your nights dancing add up to plenty of time for just the two of you. For even more quality time together, explore Mayan ruins, swim in magical cenotes, or book a romantic spa day, complete with a couple’s massage.

Dublin For couples who love nothing more than exploring together, Dublin is waiting. Historic castles, medieval cathedrals, cozy cafés, pops of colourful street art, and live music enjoyed while nestled in a corner booth at one of Dublin’s iconic pubs can all be found in this lively city. With Dublin as your home base, you’re just a day trip away from the Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland’s most breathtaking places.

Head to Georgetown’s tree-lined cobblestone streets, take in the historic architecture, and check out some of D.C.’s best restaurants. If an evening of culture is your thing, you’ll want to book seats at one of the many theatres in Penn Quarter and Chinatown. Then, check out the area’s lively nightlife. With our little one on the way, we knew our lives were about to change, so we decided to make the long trip to this amazing country and capture as many memories as possible. Using Flytographer was a dream! The process was so easy and Nadine, our photographer, was lovely. As a keen traveller and photo hog, Flytographer will be go-to for capturing memories on all my trips.

This trip held too many memorable moments! One that stands out is stopping our car on the side of the road on our wine tour in Cape Town and staring out at the mind-blowing view of mountains, countryside, and blue skies. We were both speechless. Soak in every moment and check out tours that educate you on South Africa’s history (especially township tours). Though very beautiful, one can’t forget the harrowing history of its people. My funniest story is wearing the most inappropriate clothing to wildly windy Cape Point - a little floral dress! To protect my modesty, I had to tie a scarf around my waist. The hubby was completely exasperated with me because I was warned, but didn’t listen!

Neto’s story Our trip was planned in honour of the honeymoon that we didn’t have when we got married almost 2 years ago. Despite the burden of our work and moving back to Mexico, we finally got the opportunity to return to Europe, with the plan of mainly visiting Spain, as it was my husband Mau’s first time there. The moment we started planning, we remembered a trip to Paris together 7 years ago. It was a city that simply inspired us, and we justed wanted to have another chance to walk the streets, sit down at a café and enjoy the scene all around ... and that is also why we booked Flytographer, so we could record the essence of us being here. There is no way a selfie from your phone is going to really capture the magic of a city like Paris!

My favourite memory from Paris is actually our Flytographer experience! It gave us the chance to just walk around and enjoy it all, through the Tuileries, over Pont Alexandre III, and spending the morning after at a nice café. My funniest story is when we were shooting the photos, we did a kissing shot on the bridge and I actually did the corniest thing: I lifted my feet like Anne Hathaway in Princess Diaries. Ajajajaja...! There is nothing like travelling and capturing great moments with a good picture (or a lot of pictures). Through Flytographer, we got the chance of capturing our trip to Paris - it really is the best souvenir. I’ve been telling everyone about my great experience - now, I’ll just have to wait for our next trip!

Annastasia’s story Florence was the first stop on our honeymoon, just two days after our wedding! In the ten years that we have been a couple, both John and I have travelled to Europe, but never together. Florence proved to be the perfect setting for newlyweds: outstanding food, welcoming people, the intrigue of historic culture and romance lingering just beyond every bend. We woke up to lazy mornings with cappuccinos, went exploring through new places every afternoon, and spent the evenings bathing under the stars while enjoying the most authentic food and wine.

94 • PASSPORT | THE MAGIC OF TRAVEL

One of our best adventures was renting a Vespa. We zipped around the streets of Florence like the locals. Following every whim, we found ourselves in the most magical and remote places, as if they had been waiting for just us to arrive. We grew attached to the freedom, the thrill and the authenticity that the Vespas represented and were overjoyed to have Sonya, our Flytographer, capture the little life we had made for ourselves there.

Sneaking out in the wee hours of the morning was such a fun adventure! It was Sonya’s brilliant idea and we couldn’t be happier with the way the shoot turned out. Florence was ours before everyone woke up and the pure joy that radiated out of Sonya while shooting made the experience even more enjoyable. It was MAGIC - a true highlight of our honeymoon! We miss the food, we miss the wine, we miss the gelato, we miss our Vespa, but at least we have our pictures to remind us of all the memories we created while we started the next and biggest chapter of our lives together.

Edna’s Story My husband and I caught the travel bug pretty early on in our relationship. We have always enjoyed visiting new countries and love to experience new cultures. We like to travel to a new place every year for our anniversary instead of a gift exchange. South America has always been on our bucket list. We’d heard so much about Machu Picchu and decided to pack our bags for Peru to see this wonder in person! What better way to celebrate our anniversary than to hike the Inca Trail which ends at this historic site?

106 • PASSPORT | THE MAGIC OF TRAVEL

We stayed in Miraflores District in Lima. Miraflores is one of the touristy parts of the city. It’s centrally located and safe to walk around, which makes it easy to visit all the sites and good restaurants nearby. Miraflores is about a 10-15 minute walk to the waterfront ,where an amazing view of the dramatic cliffs awaits you. Miraflores is also within walking distance to one of the top five restaurants in the world, Central, according to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy. Definitely go with the seventeen course meal!

We were surprised by how diverse of an environment exists in a country that is not extremely large. There are beautiful coastlines, rain forests, deserts, high mountains, modern culture, and an old world charm in this amazing country. It blew our mind that in Cusco, such a large civilization was built at such a high altitude, especially when sometimes just walking would make us short of breath! Our favourite memory from our vacation was definitely hiking the Inca Trail. It was a four-day trek from the start of Km 82 all the way to Machu Picchu. The trek was challenging with a lots of ascends and descends. Our proudest moment was when we reached the top of Dead Woman’s Pass at 13,828 feet! We shared a lot of great memories on the trek and made a few friends along the way.

Edna’s Top 3 Tips 1. Plan early and do your research! There are so many tours out there, especially when visiting the more popular sites. Spending some time to compare itineraries and prices will allow you to find the right company for your budget/activity level. We worked with Jon Green from Nazca Flights to set up a private overnight tour to Paracas, Ica and Huacachina from Lima. As for the Inca Trail, we went with Alpaca Expeditions. We cannot say enough good things about Alpaca! Amazing service from start to end. We were the first group to arrive at the Sun Gate. Words cannot explain how exhilarating it was to be the first to see Machu Picchu on the last day of our trek! 2. Altitude sickness is no joke! We experienced this firsthand after we arrived in Cusco. Give yourself enough time to acclimate to the altitude. Also be sure to check out which vaccinations you need on the CDC website. 3. My husband and I speak very little Spanish, so we had to rely on our Google Translate app to communicate with locals. It was pretty funny because a simple question could take up to five minutes! It’s probably best to learn basic Spanish before visiting Peru.
