Worship Servants

Dear friends, There comes a time in life when events take a toll on oneself. I am at such a time. Beginning January 9th and continuing through February 19th, I will be taking a six-week spiritual renewal leave. During this time, I will not be at church, but will be finding ways to renew and restore. I will be attending some conferences/retreats, reading, praying, and allowing the Lord to fill me anew with his mighty power. This is a provision given in our Book of Discipline to full-time pastor to take such a leave every 7 years. I am in my 18th year of ministry and have only taken one. It is time. During this time, people will share my duties. Preaching will be shared by some guest preachers and some of our own gifted people. Pastor Jeanne will help but will need support of others in this time. While I am gone, I ask that you pray for me as I will for you. When I return, we will begin by seeking God for direction for our church. We will not meet January 7th as I had planned. Instead we will come together on Saturday, March 18th at 9:30 a.m. to discern goals for our church. Please make every effort to be there to share hopes and dreams. In February, there will be a reflective prayer and reading booklet available to prepare for this time together. I will be preparing my heart for this time as well. May God bless you mightily in 2017 with all he has for as individuals and as Flushing UMC.

Changes at Our Church Pastor Jeanne has agreed to help with Christian Education and our youth program. She has added a day a week to her schedule. She will work with Daren Hawley, who has volunteered to work with our youth. We thank them both for helping us as we needed. Wesley Covenant Renewal It is the time of year to think about those New Year’s resolutions. We want to do it better in 2017. On January 8th, we will spend time thanking God for our blessings and praying for our hopes. As a part of the services, we will use a long time Methodist service and prayer. John Wesley’s Covenant prayer has been used to help people renew their commitment to follow God’s ways. As we try to exercise more or eat better, let us come together to get a spiritual checkup and decide to walk closer with the Lord. TOOLS for Ministry We will have the privilege of hosting the Crossroads District Tools for Ministry presented by the District Laity. You will have the opportunity to enjoy a meal prepared by our FUMC UMW, have a time of worship and then attend a workshop to help in your area of service to the church. See the listing of workshops that will offered. Registration forms are available at the office. We will need volunteers to set up different rooms in the church for the workshops.
