Our Founder and Advocate Hello, Beautiful! It is my desire to see you “Flourish” to your fullest potential; because I love seeing others succeed. Over the past twenty-five plus years I have gained valuable experience and a wealth of knowledge from my corporate career within the International Telecommunications area. I specialized in building successful business to business relationships; and setting core strategies for driving client-customer based initiatives. During my tenor in Global Communications, I have managed and supported large teams in the US, UK, Canada, South America, Asia, Australia, and other amazing places across Europe. The scope of my role as Global Director was to create and maintain end to end processes to support the overall implementation of new products and services for the world's largest carriers. Beyond my corporate career, I have led and founded several non-profits, held several offices within the inspirational support arena, and delivered countless motivational speeches. Most recently in 2015, I founded and built an amazing Networking Organization for Women which has grown rapidly to over twenty chapters in several states. I am also the founder of a Business Advocacy and Development Company that supports women entrepreneurs. In addition, I have held several top-level positions in a few Network Marketing (MLM) companies building my teams from the ground up in very short timeframes. I've held a spot in Success from Home Magazine and led my team to the Millionaires Club with one of the past companies in just six months. My passions are my faith, family, inspiring others, supporting community efforts, and philanthropy. I want to share both my passion and experiences with other women to help them reach their fullest potential in every area of their lives. I am excited for what’s on the horizon with The Flourish Network, Ardia’s Hope, and iFlourish Magazine. Get ready… we have some amazing things coming your way! I can’t wait to see you flourish and I am looking forward to meeting you soon. Here’s to your success!

Not everyone will like you, support you, or want to see you succeed. That’s a harsh reality that must be realized if you are working towards achieving any level of success. One must adapt thick skin and decide not to give someone the power to make you feel bad or unworthy. Or not to let what someone else says or does affect you. The behavior of others should not alter your mood, impede upon your space, alter your self-confidence, or determine your personal happiness and success. The first thing you need to know is that no one can make you feel bad or affect your progress in life if you don’t let them. You are the only one who can give that power to someone. That’s right, no one has the power to upset you or affect you. You always possess the power to choose how you respond to someone. Getting angry and responding to the actions of others that come against you only results in you allowing yourself to stoop to their level of nonsense. Stay calm and allow the emotions that you may feel to pass. And, as you know, feeling bad, getting mad, and getting even is never going to solve anything. All that this does is cause you to become embittered about life, as those that are trying to take you out of the game moves on to their next victim. The second thing you need to know is that no one has the right to impose their ideas, express their dislikes, or try to out-do you through emulation and/or competition. No one! Nobody! Period! Sadly, when some people suffer from low self-esteem, feel lesser than, or think that someone else may be having a greater level of success they act out in ways that demonstrate what’s going on internally, and it resonates outwardly towards others. However, those are their own personal issues and not yours. © Copyright 2018 iFloruish Magazine - The Flourish Network & Flourish Networking for Women

The reality is that it happens to everyone that has any level of success. So, never take it personally when someone tries to take you out of the game, tries to emulate your ideas, out-do you, or finds fault with what you are doing that is working for you. It’s working for you because you are in alignment with your purpose. Therefore, you are getting favorable results. But… not everyone will like it or be happy for you, and that’s OK. Here are several things you can implement in order not to be affected by the behavior of others: Set healthy boundaries. Don’t deal with anyone or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Even if this means this requires you to stand alone. Value yourself as you deserve. When another person has the power to make you feel bad or affects how you feel about something that’s a sign of a lack of self-esteem. Because, if you love, respect and value yourself, you will not let anyone make you feel the way you don’t want to feel. Give the importance to your opinion, your feelings and your way of being and don’t let anyone make you doubt in yourself. You have a right to have others treat you with respect. Stop taking it as something personal. What another person does is their issue and doesn’t have anything to do with you. Understand that everyone has a different upbringing, as well as different love languages, and life experiences. Let them mind their business and you mind yours. When someone does something that isn’t in line with your moral compass learn to release it and know that it’s them and not you. But, whatever you do, don’t take it personally. This is the best antidote for peace of mind. Some people live for and need recognition to feel important. Some require to be the loudest person in the room with the most to say in order to be the center of attention. Regardless of the situation, when someone feels the need to one-up you, emulate you, or is constantly competing; it’s a sign of insecurity, they suffer from feelings of inferiority or anger with the world. The important thing to remember is that this is their issue, not yours. Realizing the needs that lie behind behaviors we don’t like is also a way to understand what happens to that person is not ours, but theirs.

Stop thinking that the other person has done something against you, or to you. Make sure that that you don’t allow it to annoy or hurt you. Because that mindset nourishes your discomfort and ignores all the reasons that people behave like that. Realize that it is just their opinion. If another person says something, or reacts a certain way against you, your business, your ideas, and or purpose driven actions, that doesn’t mean that they are right. The question is what are you being led and inspired to do that concerns your purpose, vision, and end result? No matter what someone says about you, or the actions they may do against you, that is just their opinion and a result of what they feel about themselves. It’s not your TRUTH, and it has nothing at all to do with your path and purpose. Do not change what you don’t want to change. When others try to lessen your vision and purpose or attempt to make you feel bad about your success and you want that to stop happening; never lessen your values to obtain their recognition and approval. Stay focused, despite what’s going on around you and what others may say or do to you. The moment you lose focus the other individuals not only have your power, but they then also control your feelings and your behavior. Never change who you are to appease someone else and their opinions. Never let them see you sweat. Don’t allow yourself to get into that spiral of thinking that whenever you encounter someone that comes against you or wants to knock you out of the game of the “here we go again” mindset. Stand in the authority that you’ve been given for your purpose. Allowing others to see that you are intimidated by them gives off an insecure energy and opens the door for the uncomfortable situation to continue. It’s like a predator that smells the fear in you and attacks. That is exactly what gives them power to think that they can continue to behave the way they have been. Stand your ground. Stand in your authority and don’t let them see you sweat! Accept others as they are. As hard as it may seem, you must stop fighting what irritates you. Understanding that a person doesn’t have to behave or express themselves as you would. Or that their values and rules don’t have to be yours. Respect them as individuals from a distance and keep it moving. Harboring resentment only affects you in the end. © Copyright 2018 iFloruish Magazine - The Flourish Network & Flourish Networking for Women

9

You may think that you have a right to be offended by someone’s behavior, but that is only because you believe that things must be done as you would do them and that is not the case. Distance yourself from toxic people. If you decide that you don’t want to be close or have someone in your space that will make you feel uncomfortable, or someone that you know attacks you behind the scene, then distance yourself. You have the right to decide who you want to be part of your life, have as a business partner, as a client, etc. Focus on the people that support you and stay away from those that don’t. If by chance there is someone from whom you cannot walk away from or separate from physically, you can always take emotional and affective distance breaks. Lastly, never forget that it doesn’t matter how someone treats you. It doesn’t matter how they may throw poison at you, attack you, emulate you, or attempt to be your harshest competitor. You and you alone have the power decide if you will allow yourself to get knocked out of the game. To win in achieving your goals and reaching your full purpose, you must stay in the game. Remember, there will always be someone that will try to tear you down. Don’t let them!

Don’t forget to break away from the grind, clear your mind and enjoy some me time. Make time for yourself, enjoy moments of silence, reconnect with your inner most thoughts, dreams and desires. Give yourself permission to break free from the normal day to day routine so that you can become the best person, mother, wife, and woman that you can possibly be. And… do not feel guilty about it.

Isn’t it amazing that no one else on the planet is like you? You have special gifts and talents that set you apart, and that makes you a one of a kind original. Your uniqueness is a gift that is your born identity, and there is no one that can fill your shoes. How awesome is that? Many times, we fail to see the beauty of our unique selves. We compare who we are, how we look, and our achievements to that of others. When we think like this, or operate in the area of comparison, we decrease our self-worth, our gifts, and our talents. Also, in doing this we reduce ourselves, and we exalt what others possess, overlooking our own special unique qualities. This causes an enormous amount of pressure by living “in comparison”. Comparison steals dreams, confidence, desire, and willpower. Many times, we become stagnant because of trying to measure up. We literally can get stuck in our tracks or sit spinning our wheels with absolutely no movement. Here’s a reality check, we will never measure up to someone else. Never! We are not supposed to. We are supposed to Flourish in our own uniqueness, beauty, and individuality. What if we willed ourselves to see our beauty, and individuality? Then we would start to see ourselves as successful, victorious, and even as a gift to those around us. Start to visualize yourself in that light. There is beauty in our life stories, our failures, and in overcoming our obstacles. There is beauty in our laughs, our quirkiness, and imperfections. In the times when we are frazzled, and it feels like we are about to fall apart, we must remember that we possess beauty within. Our life experiences are all a part of our purpose. Each thing that we “grow” though, is for the fulfillment of our purpose. Notice that I said “GROW” through? I worded it that way for a specific reason and that is because it’s a fact. Each time we go through a problem, encounter a circumstance, or even tackle a life happenstance, we GROW. Even when it seems like we fail. I have a saying, “even when it looks like failure, I still win.” Why? It is because we were designed to grow in the most difficult of times. So, embrace your challenges! Cultivate the mindset of “what am I to learn, through this?” Be eager to see the growth on the other side of the trial. So often we get caught up in the cares of life and trying to measure up to others, that we forget that we have been created for purpose; and unique qualities to be shared with the world. In simpler terms, we must awaken the Giant within. The problem is, that sometimes we have no idea that there is a Giant within. We are equipped with everything that we need to succeed. All we have to do is OWN IT and walk in it!

I want to challenge you to OWN it! Own your uniqueness, your beauty, your individuality, and the wonderful gift that you are to those around you. Own it! Own that you are different, and that’s OK because you are a one of a kind creation, and gift. Own it! Own the fact that you are already equipped, and ready for your purpose, and all you need to do is let go, and simply OWN IT! OWN IT! Own it without any apologies for being the awesome, beautiful, and unique creation that you are!

When my children were growing up and building friendships with their peers, I used to tell them to not be taken by friends who brought negative influences into their lives. I reminded them that while these friendships were temporary, the consequences of negative influence and wrong decisions could potentially affect them for years to come. Chances were these friends would no longer be around to help pick up the pieces when life became real. In whom we invest is important. Sometimes we have to be the person who walks the road less traveled so that distractions and negative influences do not hinder our growth and progress in life. It’s very easy to go with the crowd and do the mundane. What’s not easy is maintaining discipline and consistency toward goals that lead to our visions and dreams. What if every day were lived with purpose or taking steps to achieve a goal, even a small one, what a difference this would make! Two lessons we can learn: 1) Choose your influencers wisely – sometimes it’s necessary to walk away from relationships that consistently bring negative influence. It’s good to evaluate whether a relationship is one that moves you forward or one that holds you back. Keep in mind that misery really does love company and some relationships do not encourage positive change. 2) Be a person of good influence - be the person that works hard at rising above while exemplifying encouragement to others. Work hard at not falling short of doing good; you will reap what you sow. Keep in mind that cream rises to the top and this takes effort. Live life with intention so that your path is clear not only for yourself but to help others along the way. You can’t help others out of the mire if you’re stuck there with them. Sometimes walking the journey of rising above can be lonely but that’s not always a bad thing. Better to journey alone for a short time then to look back and wish time were still on your side. Every day is an opportunity; let’s help each other FLOURISH in life!

Perfect World

By Erin Erbeck (Roswell, GA)

Perfection. What does that mean? Social media has redefined the word. Perfect lives lived by beautiful people. I watch them jet-set to beaches with white sand and crystal-clear blue-green waters. I see them laughing with their group of friends that fill up the landscape-style picture. I watch their beautiful babies grow into beautiful children, their faces beaming, the message attached praising them for their perfection. When I finally will myself to look away from my phone, I glance around at my life and am struck by how imperfect I am, how messy and disobedient my children are, and glancing in a mirror… how I must have had that poppy seed stuck between my front teeth since breakfast. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live that perfect life. But the thing is, I love my messy children (notice how I omitted the disobedient part!). And I really love a good everything bagel, toasted with cream cheese. I love my imperfections. When did life become about being perfect? And when did ‘perfect’ start to have such a rigid definition? Why must I be fit, have a hugely successful career, multiple beautiful and gifted children, a huge perfectly-styled house and a husband that cooks and cleans? I’m a little squishy, I am nowhere near as far up the career-ladder as some other women of the same age, my house is full of things, none of which match. I do have a man that cooks and cleans… but really doesn’t that just mean he’s perfect?

Perfection By: Erin Erbeck (Roswell, GA)

We wear too many hats to be comparing ourselves to each other and ESPECIALLY to the versions of ourselves we share on social media. We are all supposed to be different, our DNA is unique, our characters should be too. A bit of my Character DNA: Mother, future-wife, daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, employee, writer, den leader, volunteer board member, activist, book-lover, movie-lover, fur-baby-lover. I value each of these things differently and appropriate a different amount of my time and energy to each. Yet I compare myself to women whose Character DNA is completely different than mine. The perfect Pinterest mom. The woman with the killer legs. The one that just made it to the C-Suite at work… and she’s not even 40! But I find myself simultaneously thinking I’m less because I am not ALL of those things. I’m not just comparing myself to 5 different women, but I am also seeing them as one.

24

I am 100% of the things I should be. More importantly, I am 100% of the things I WANT to be. And the newest piece of who I want to be is someone who looks at social media and appreciates each woman’s Character DNA. But I also want to be a woman who shows my flaws to the world, so they know it’s ok to have flaws too. I want young women to grow up in an environment that isn’t riddled with this false sense of perfection. I want to make ‘imperfect’ the new ‘perfect.’ I hope to send the message that we all should be this way: happy in our own choice of perfect. Happy in our own imperfections. And the best time to start is always now, so here is a little of my own personal imperfection… I spent about an hour after lunch with a big ole piece of Triscuit stuck to my face. And I know it was a Triscuit, because when I found it, I ate it. #eatyourfiber #imperfectisthenewperfect

Avoid the pitfalls of filtered perfection: 1. Just like our DNA, everybody’s mix of who they are and who they want to be varies. Write a list of your own Character DNA. Live up to those expectations, not those set by social media. 2. Be inspired by other women. Use the inspiration to read just your own idea of who you want to be, but set your own goals, don’t live up to the same goals as others. 3. Above all else, be real. Be vocal and communicate both your successes and your failures so other women can be inspired by your own determination!

Perfect is being 100% who you want to be!

Socially Savvy By: Connie Smith (Louisville, KY)

Many business owners are still shying away from taking the plunge into becoming Socially Savvy because social media can be extremely overwhelming. Think about how many ways there are now to consume social media. Today’s consumers are connecting on social media using their phones, tablets, laptops and every other type of web-connected display. There’s all sorts of platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, YouTube and several more. For those that are just starting on social media this can be extremely overwhelming and even the thought of making the commitment to ‘go for it’, can be like trying to get a drink of water from a fire hose. But… Guess what? You need to be there. You need to remove whatever obstacle that is holding you back. It is time to embrace social media. No more dipping your toe into the water or saying, I will get to it ‘next week’. It’s time to start building new relationships with customers and prospects. You have an opportunity waiting for you where you can carve out a chunk of your market using the power of social media!

Here are a few tips that can help you become socially savvy... Initiate and Respond Take the initiative to set up on a couple of social media platforms. Start sharing about your business, with a “little” glimpse into your personal space (don’t go over board) and build followers and social friendships. Once you start to engage, those that connect will respond, then you can respond, and this is a starting point to get you on your way to becoming socially savvy. Lead with Value When it comes to social media it is important to remember that it is not about you, it is about those that engage with you. You want to draw interest by giving valuable info, motivation, stories, and things that keep others plugged in. Set an expectation of value for your friends and followers. Push marketing does not work on social media. “Push marketing is defined as a promotional strategy in which a business attempts to get their message in front of their potential customers without them having a desire or interest to buy the product or learn more about it.” Lead with value and you win! Engage! Then Engage Some More This is crucial so please listen up. So many people make the mistake of driving people away rather than drawing people to them on Social Media. They do this by the “Push Marketing” – in your face tactics. PLEASE NOTE: Social media is NOT a broadcast tool. It’s a communication tool. Meaning, it is a two-way street. If you want people to be interested in you and your business, you must be genuinely interested in them as well. It is more than people just posting things, you must engage and respond to each other, and you must show interest and concern. Be Unique It can be a real struggle as a business owner to realize that we must come out from behind the logo and let our audience ‘know’ who we are. So many people fail in this area, yet this is what makes us real and authentic. Trust me, this is what they are looking for! People are tired of the status quo when it comes to their buying habits, and the way they connect to do business. They are looking to spend money with companies that care about them, that are real, transparent and human. © Copyright 2018 iFloruish Magazine - The Flourish Network & Flourish Networking for Women

Direct Your Focus It can be tough to manage all of the social media sites and you can quickly find yourself overwhelmed. It is better to NOT be on a social media platform at all than to be missing in action. Showing up is half the battle as they say and if you are not showing up regularly, this can really harm your brand image. If you fail to respond to customer inquiries or comments, this showcases lack of interest in them and they will take their business elsewhere. To narrow your focus, determine what social media platforms your customers and ideal prospects are using the most. Once you have this information in hand, focus your efforts there. It may be two platforms instead of six or seven. It is far better to get outstanding results from one or two social media platforms, than to have very few results from sixteen because you’ve spread yourself to thin in this area and lack focus. Social media can, at first glance, seem totally intimidating for entrepreneurs and small business owners but with the right strategies and tools, social media can be an amazing way to take your business to new heights.

Body Basics By: Sabrina Robertson, (Los Angeles, CA) Personal Trainer - Body Builder – Nutrition Coach

Eat Right Your diet should consist of lots of fruits and vegetables. According to The Harvard School of Public Health you should be eating nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day, equivalent to two cups of fruit and 2.5 cups of vegetables per day. That is a minimum estimation, so you should be able to eat as many fruits and vegetables as you want. Focus on eating the right amount of protein, fats, and good carbohydrates. Good carbohydrates include quinoa, brown rice, whole wheat, rye, and barley. Bad carbohydrates are found in refined white bread and processed foods like French fries. The amount you need to consume depends on how active you are, your height and weight, your age, your gender, etc. A general guideline is to stay away from fast foods which are loaded with Trans fats and added sugars. Substitute hamburgers and hotdogs with turkey burgers and turkey dogs. Try grilling salmon and shrimp instead of bratwursts. Eat grilled vegetables such as zucchini, peppers, and onions or salad on the side as opposed to French fries or potato chips. (French fries do not count as a vegetable contrary to popular belief). Fruit salads make great summer desserts as a substitute for ice cream and cake. Š Copyright 2018 iFloruish Magazine - The Flourish Network & Flourish Networking for Women

Eating right takes discipline and awareness. It doesn’t mean you can’t ever eat a hamburger, cookie, or potato chip. It means you are consistently putting healthy foods in your body. You will notice how much better you feel because you are eating healthy and clean. After a while you might not crave the hot dog like you did before. Eat Light Don’t starve yourself: if you are hungry you need to eat but try to concentrate on how much you eat. Make an effort to not overeat. When eating there is a point when you have eaten enough and are satisfied, and then there is that point that many of us go past. This is the point you should try to avoid. Try eating smaller meals throughout the day. Eat a large breakfast and smaller portions throughout the day. Eating this way can be beneficial especially if you are looking to shed a few pounds or get more toned. But remember just because you are eating smaller meals doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care about what you are eating. Eating right and eating light go hand in hand. Hydrate The amount of water you should drink depends on many different variables. A useful way to test if you are drinking enough water is to pay attention to your urine. If it is light in color than you are drinking enough. If it is darker than you aren’t drinking enough. Also pay attention to how often you go to the bathroom. You don’t want to drown yourself because that can have negative consequences as well, but you want to ensure your body is properly hydrated. If you are planning on spending a lot of time outside in the sun counteract dehydration symptoms with lots of H2O. This is really important when you plan on drinking alcohol or any other liquids that can lead to dehydration. Always have enough water available during the summer months no matter what you are doing. Exercise The summer months are the perfect time to start taking exercise seriously. It can often be difficult to undertake an exercise regimen during the fall and winter months because of the cold and unfavorable weather. Play beach volleyball, go for long walks on the beach, or swim in the lake or the ocean. Exercise doesn’t © Copyright 2018 iFloruish Magazine - The Flourish Network & Flourish Networking for Women

have to be intense cardio or strength training. Take advantage of the warm weather and treat your body well. It is important to determine what kind of body you want. Are you trying to lose body fat, or do you desire to be more fit and active? Cater your exercise to fit your individual needs. Focus on the Core Having a strong core is more than just constructing sexy-looking abs. According to the Mayo Clinic, having strong core muscles is important for performing any physical activity. “Weak core muscles leave you susceptible to poor posture, lower back pain and muscle injuries.” Building a strong core is essential to a healthy body and beneficial for those of all ages. Limit Alcohol If you are concerned with your body, then you will limit how much beer you drink. Beer is refreshing in the summer, but it is filled with empty calories, which can be detrimental to your body. Also watch out for liquors like whiskey and rum because they tend to have a lot of added sugars. Light liquors such as gin and vodka are probably your safest bet if you plan on drinking often throughout the summer. Get Rest Your body needs rest. Make sure you provide it with plenty of rest. Don’t stay up late all the time partying. Get enough sleep. At the same time don’t workout incessantly. Your body needs time to recuperate and strengthen. Take rest as needed. Find a balance between having a good time, exercising, and resting. Your body will thank you.

Take care of your body. It’s the only place that you have to live in. © Copyright 2018 iFloruish Magazine - The Flourish Network & Flourish Networking for Women

Flourishing on Purpose Because we choose to do things differently, lives are being changed not only within our network as a whole, but in our communities as well and that’s the beauty of it all. Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of others and reach beyond the normal practice of just networking for business. We take pride in the fact that we grow our network organically. What this means is that we don’t attend other groups to market our networking organization. There’s no need for us to do that because we allow our vision, passion, and energy to attract those individuals that are called to be a part of our network. Our goal is to break past the status quo of what is perceived as “normal networking”; because it’s much bigger than that! We flourish on purpose for a purpose. We admit… we are different, we love it, and are perfectly OK with that. We strongly believe that every single person, business, and organization has their own specific purpose and calling.
