Lynn Wilder, Ed.D. College of Education/ Professor Emeritus 1:00 p.m. ceremony

Dr. Lynn K. Wilder is a recognized scholar in a narrow interdisciplinary field where special education and multicultural education intersect. She has spent a lifetime advocating for and working to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities (since the inception of the field in 1975), students who dropped out, students with literacy needs, migrant students, homeless students, pregnant teens, teens in gangs, and students with emotional/behavioral needs. These early experiences laid the foundation for a subsequent career in higher education. For the past 15 years, she has been a journal editor – including a managing editor – for an internationally renown multicultural journal, Multicultural Learning and Teaching. Dr. Wilder presented papers in China, in Russia, in Canada, and in the U.S. and leaves her field with more than 60 peer-reviewed publications during an 18½-year career in higher education, the last 10½ years at FGCU. Teaching in the public schools and researching, publishing, and teaching in higher education have been her advocacy instruments to improve outcomes for students, dropouts, families, and institutions in the community and future teachers at the university as well as the profession globally.
