Principal’s Message

Good wishes to all of our Floranada families! February promises to be a busy month here at Floranada. Teachers and support staff have reviewed student data. We are using this data to make plans to support learning gains. I am now in the process of meeting with each 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student to discuss their goals and achieve their highest potential. This is the perfect time for you to speak with your child regarding their progress and discuss ways that they can be successful. One of the best ways that you can help your child each day is to make sure that he/she is at school on time. We begin each day with our Reading Block and tardy students miss important time in reading. Please encourage your child to be prepared each day and complete their homework nightly. All of our Floranada students have tremendous potential. Remind your child to always try their best and to take responsibility for their grades. As always, thank you for all that you do to help us help your children be successful. The great thing about Floranada is the fantastic relationship that exists between parents and teachers. Let’s continue this tradition and ensure that we live up to our motto of “High Expectations, Achievement, Excellence”! Keith Peters, Principal

News From the Classrooms Happy February! The second grade is just feeling the Floranada Love! We are anxiously awaiting our KAPOW field trip. Some of us will be going to Seiler Animal Hospital. Some will be going to Coldwell Banker, and some to Edward Jones Investments. Speaking of Edward Jones...a HUGE thank-you to Ms. Leann Barber (who runs the Edward Jones Investment office next to Staples) for her generous donation to our field trip. Due to her generosity, our field trip is 100% free! Thank you Leann and all our amazing KAPOW partners...Rafael Monterrey, Darlen DiMarco, Pat Smith, Steve Saley, and Dr. Boaz Man. This program could not run as smoothly without you.

Mrs. Lavere's class has "rocked" through January during our geology studies. We have made delicious igneous rock (AKA rice crispy treats), wonderful metamorphic sandwiches, and there is nothing like sedimentary chocolate rock treats! To all who have donated items to help make science fun, we thank you! A big congratulations goes out to our past Super Citizens Dylan Galiana and Curtis Thomas and to this quarters Terrific Kid, Robert Harrell. Keep up the hard work!

Well it’s already February and we continue to work hard in kindergarten! Along with our busy month, we will celebrate our 100th day in school! Wow!! We will also learn about communities and all the important jobs people do. At writing time we are practicing to make our stories more readable and in math we are focusing on two-dimensional shapes. Combining shapes to make new shapes is a lot of fun!

AR Just Got BIGGER!! Accelerated Reader is one of Floranada’s reading incentive programs. Our fabulous PTA has purchased Accelerated Reader Enterprise to enhance this program. This means we now have access to all of the book quizzes that Accelerated Reader has in its database! Our students will be able to take quizzes on many more books. Many more of our books in the media center will now have quizzes; you may have some of these books on you own book shelves and the public library books are also an option. Students should check for quiz ability by logging into their account to see if a specific bookquiz is available. Please call the Mrs. Miner or Mrs. Chelton if you have any questions.

Character Education During the month of February students, faculty and staff will be practicing the character trait "Honesty”. Honesty means being truthful, trustworthy, and sincere. One Super Citizen student will be selected from each classroom. These students best display the trait of “Honesty”.

School Tours for Prospective Families We will be offering guided tours of our school for prospective families. Please spread the word to your neighbors and friends that are thinking of making Floranada their home! Staff will provide the walking tour of our campus on February 25th at 9:00am. Our families beginning Kindergarten next year can join us for our Kindergarten tours on May 13th and 20th at 8:15am.

THANKS!! Our annual Floranada Day was a huge success. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every volunteer and sponsor! Our families would not have had such a fantastic day without all your hard work and dedication. Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Three cheers to all of you! Our wonderful Floranada PTA sponsors this event each and every year. If you had a blast this year, would you please consider donating your time and talents to make next year’s event even more special. Contact Chris Lanzetta to find out how you can help. Or better yet, come to the next PTA meeting!
