22 YEARS OLD ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN STUDENT

florent.ponnoussamy@ outlook.fr

EDUCATION • National School of Architecture and Landscape of Bordeaux / 2014-2017 / Bordeaux I joined the Architecture School of Bordeaux to do the Bachelor degree in architecture. During these 3 intensive years, I got to learn a lot of skills that define the way I design today.

• Kyushu University / 2017-2018 / Fukuoka I did an exchange program in Kyushu University, in Fukuoka, Japan. I used this year to take a small break from architecture and explore all the other fields in design which made me have a new point of view on design and architecture.

• National School of Architecture and Landscape of Bordeaux / 2018 - Today / Bordeaux After Japan, I am now back to the Architecture School of Bordeaux to do a Master with a fresh start.

ABOUT ME

WORK

I am an architecture student passionated by all the different fields of design. My personality is a result of a mix between European and Asian culture. This double culture makes me look at the world in a different way. Throughtout my entire academic career, I discovered a philosophy where design has a great influence on our behavior and on the environnement we live in. So I strongly believe that good design is a result of collaborative work, combined with passionate, innovative and sensitive values that transforms a place or object into an unique solution that responds to contemporary needs and future issues. I am passionated, self-trained, hardworking and willing to push myself to design spaces or objects that best fit our lifestyles.

LESCURE 2.0 A NEW IDENTITY FOR A WAREHOUSE

LESCURELESCURE 2.0 2.0

In Bordeaux, France, Lescure is a residential area with lots of warehouses from the 19th century. Today, they are in bad conditions and are only used to repair city buses. My goal here was to create a new identity for this forgoten piece of Bordeaux’s architectural heritage. I used parasite architecture as a solution to reveal the existence of this historical building. The project consists in a mix of cultural, student and sports center combined with offices and restaurants. It was the first time I did a large scale architectural project. This project made me research and study deeply all the small details of this warehouse: from the building itself to the small the bolts of ts beautiful structure. It was the first time I did a large scale architectural project.

LAS HERMANAS LIVE IN A VERTICAL CITY In Bilbao, Spain, the residential urbanism mainly follows one rule: a multi-story building with a commercial program in the ground floor. But in Bolueta, a very special district, promoters have started to build contemporary green residential towers. So I used this special opportunity with a special context to design one thing I always wanted to design : skyscrappers. The plot I chose is in a isolated industrial area right in front of the river. This amazing plot lets us see the beautiful landscape of the Spanish Basque Country. Building tall twisting skyscrappers was then a solution to make everyone enjoy the views but also to resist naturally to the strong winds. This project made me have a reflexion on housing systems and on how to build a vertical city in a dense place.

TEDX FUKUOKA A DESIGN CAME TRUE In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are selforganized. Here, TEDx Fukuoka’s president came to Kyushu University to search for volunteers to do the stage design with one theme: Diviersity. I was then part of this team and during five intense months of design and production, we built the low-cost stage design in real for the event. The stage design was only made of paper. It was the very first time where a personal design of mine came true.

URBAN GIGWAN A NEW ORGAN FOR THE CREATURE

FREEDOM

In Seoul, South Korea, Euljiro is a traditional avenue with a lot of small electronic shops gathered together. The small interactions between these shops make Euljiro act like a creature with its own freedom, energy and regeneration. The idea was then to create a urban furniture that fits perfectly this special environment. So with my team, we designed a furniture that acts as an organ of this creature. This organ will use the creature’s freedom, energy and regeneration to give an impulse to its life. This project was done in a collaboration with Korean students from KAIST in order to build the designed furnitures in real life with honeycomb cardboards with digital fabrication techniques. Once again, it was a unique experience to participate in the creation process of the furniture and build it with our own hands.

BUILDING THE REAL SCALE MODEL 17

PHOTOGRAPHY ONE OF MY PASSIONS When I started to study architecture, I naturally got interested by photography. I simply started to take photos of my model for my teacher but with time, everything around me became a good model for a photo. I mainly focus on architecture photography around the world. It can be anything; temples, skyscrappers, slums, doors, windows; I take good pleasure to capture it with my camera or phone. The photos you are going to see here were taken in France, India, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea and Japan. I give great importance to photography because one of my other passion in architecture is Computer graphics and 3D model Rendering. So photography helps me improve my skills in 3D renderings.

LOCATION: AROUND THE WORLD

19

RENDERINGS THE PURSUIT OF DETAILS For every architecture projects, I always intend to show the maximum amount of details possible. My way of representing architecture has always been heavy because I care a lot about details. I strongly believe that tiny details can give a lot of informations. V-Ray is my best friend thanks to the accuracy I get at the end of each rendering. My goal which each view I create is to give a realist impression of what my architecture is going to look like. Some of the views here were done for international competitions like Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 or the International Competition for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Headquarter Building.
