By Melanie Langley This past week I went on a family trip to Long Beach, Washington and Seaside, Oregon. This is usually an annual trip we take, as we enjoy spending time at the beach. We stayed in a rental home with a full kitchen that I used to cook meals when we weren’t eating out at a restaurant. It was my first time cooking for an entire week and I found it quite fun actually. I’m hoping to continue cooking more often while at home. Among all the fun activities we did during the week, there were off times where we just relaxed at the rental. We didn’t have internet there, so I thought it would be difficult to keep myself occupied and entertained. To my surprise, it wasn’t that hard. I started reading novels, something I hadn’t truly done for a couple of years now and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. So I encourage all of you who use the internet for entertainment to unplug every once in a while to enjoy a hobby that you’ve forgotten about. Our first couple of days were spent in Long Beach. I took many walks along the coastline and also played with my 7 year old nephew who is quite a handful to keep entertained. I remember when I was his age and had fun building sand castles and jumping over waves, so I tried my best to give that kind of experience to him as well.

We did a lot of browsing in stores at both Long Beach and Seaside and we found a few cool little decorations to bring home, as well as toys for my nephew and of course a boatload of salt water taffy. On Friday of that week we went to Long Beach’s weekly farmer’s market. They had more than a dozen different vendors selling food and other items, as well as a stage where live music was performed. All in all it was a great trip and I definitely recommend checking out either Seaside or Long Beach as a vacation destination for your family.
