amCon is Cambridge’s Official Anime, Sci-fi, Comics, Manga and Gaming Convention. The day everyone is looking forward to is 31st August. I’ve tried very hard to get the day off work but can’t – I’m so disappointed. It was at the first CamCon last year and I had a great time, watching the fashion show and cosplay competition. I also enjoyed the various presentations and if I had had more money on me I would (still) have spent it all and needed more. PAGE 6 | FLACK |AUGUST 2013

et me start at the beginning. When we (FLACKers) arrived we had our names checked and were given a press badge and a wrist band in a seemingly random colour – some attendees were already trying to collect them all. There was then time to wander around getting to know people and find out where the events that interested you were, everyone was armed with a programme. First up for me was a good explore, and meeting and chatting with all the wonderful cosplayers. After getting myself a drink I went upstairs to have my cosplay * (badly done, in a hurry) photo taken at the booth/room. Then I sat to watch the lovely Lolitas (a subset of cosplay) hard at work in their café. I certainly did not go to everything as that would be impossible – there was so much going on! I went to a very fascinating demonstration on how to put on and wear a sari (a garment worn by both men and women). While we were told it was simple it didn’t look it to me, but it looked totally worth it as the model looked amazing when it was done. I really enjoyed wandering around the stalls in the vendors’ room and seeing the wide variety of things for sale like saris, t-shirts, toys, comics, and Japanese food and drink. I still have my lemonade
