Executive Board

What are your goals for your position?

DISTRICT GOVERNOR Josephine Di Russo

Major: International and Global Studies, Nonprofit Management Minor School: University of Central Florida Favorite CKI Tenet: Fellowship @jojo.dirusso @jojodirusso governor@florida circlek.org

This service year, my ultimate goal is to see the Florida District of CKI become the local and global community leader it is meant to be. Our development as such will need community collaboration, revitalized membership growth strategies, and welltrained, quality leadership. Through community partnerships and collective impact, we can combine community resources to maximize our capability to realize mankind's potential. I will strive to foster membership growth by focusing on membership recruitment and program development through developing and distributing marketing materials, emphasizing service initiatives, and building our leadership opportunities. Thorough divisional officer training will empower clubs with individualized strategies for success in their communities. With this multi-faceted approach and with help from the District Board, our club members, the International board, the Kiwanis Family, and other assets to our District, we will achieve the goal of FLACKI becoming a strong local and global community leader.

Fun Fact

I am a dual citizen of the US and Brazil!

How are you going to help your respective club officers? I will emphasize individualized club attention. By providing help on a club-by-club basis and by considering the diversity of clubs in the Florida District when making decisions, we not only pay respect to the varying struggles of our clubs but also more readily address them.

If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would it be? Martin Luther King, Jr. because his approach to human rights, specifically the rights of African Americans in the United States, was world changing. How cool would it be to talk back and forth with him about the current and future status of global human rights?

Zodiac Sign Taurus

What are your goals for your position? Throughout the year, my main priority is to establish necessary communicative relationships between members of the District Board. Also, with proper club and district officer training, increased fellowship, the district can see a growth in membership development and retention. Including the assurance of the continuous upkeep and distribution of District data, club members and their officers can use these provided resources to lead and improve their clubs.

If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be? Dedicated, loyal, and sassy

How are you going to help your respective officers? Managing club data is a very time consuming job for a club secretary. It's my plan to provide our district's secretaries with useful tricks and templates to make their jobs easier. On top of updates and reminders, I plan on personally reaching out to secretaries to establish a one-on-one relationship to promote fellowship with clubs and the district board. I'll also work with club presidents to ensure that their secretaries understand their responsibilities and the importance of their roles.

If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would it be? It would definitely be Stefani Angelina Germanotta. She was raised in a middle-class family and has worked hard to get where she is today. She is a representative of a large community and a hardworking advocate for an even larger community. The encouraging role she plays in the lives of others encourages me to go out and volunteer and be an advocate for those who can't.

Favorite Service Project and Why Working with my local Kiwanis club to help build ramps for veterans in our community and volunteering at the Tallahassee homeless shelter.

DISTRICT SECRETARY Alexander Perez

How are you going to help your respective officers?

DISTRICT TREASURER Alyssa Bowles

Major: Computer Engineering School: University of Florida Favorite CKI Tenet: Fellowship

I am planning to help by being open in communications and being transparent about our district budget. For club officers, I will convey important information about the Florida district to them. As I have experience in the club level E-Board, I will be able to assist them with any task that they may have trouble with.

What are your goals for your position? My goals can be broken down into three sub-secs: reinvent the editor position on the district board, educate club editors on design, and shining a spotlight on communication. These goals all aim to bridge the communication in the district as this issue was expressed and address by every district office candidate at this year's DCON. Re-inventing the editor's position on the district board will allow the position to become more inclusive of multiple aspects of communication rather than just focusing on The Circle Kapers, which will later benefit our club editors. Educating club editors on design will help to benefit their clubs because they will have a more rounded knowledge on design as the word design is allencompassing: designing newsletters, designing social media posts, designing and drafting an article. The final goal, spotlight on communication, is the most important. As the acting chief communications officer, my job is the most crucial in the facilitation of communication in the district.

If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would it be? My queen, the great dissenter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Favorite CKI Memory and Why? My favorite CKI memory would probably be my "Camp Kiwanis Safari Ride" with Secretary Alex and Sunbelt Advisor Robert after we cleared the premises for bears at LTC last year. It was the funniest thing I think I have ever experienced.

SERVICE Mary Hunkele

Major: Criminology and Psychology School: University of Florida Favorite CKI Tenet: Fellowship

My main goal as the District Service Chair is to help the Florida District to expand the way it thinks about service. One way I would like to expand the way service is thought about is to spread ideas of new and exciting service opportunities both inside of the governor’s project and out so that there is a variety of service projects performed throughout the year which would allow for a more wide spread impact than if a more narrow range of projects was carried out. I would also like to show clubs how it is likely that they already have good relationships built with organizations that could apply to the governor’s project and to encourage an expansion of these relationships so that we can help these organizations in as many ways as possible. I also would like to increase the community aspect of service by working with other groups in the community to have a larger collective impact than if we were working as singular isolated groups.

DCON ADVISOR David McCampbell

Kiwanis Club: Kiwanis Club of West Palm Beach Favorite CKI Tenet: Leadership

I have chartered clubs and worked with students on all SLP levels. While my Kiwanis family involvement began when I joined Key Club at 14, it was my involvement in CKI at Wake Forest University and Appalachian State University that ignited my interest in Kiwanis family service leadership. I served on the Carolinas District board for three years (Treasurer, Administrative Coordinator, Governor). My first Florida Kiwanis district position was CKI Administrator (1980-82). I have always enjoyed mentoring young adults, helping them become the best service leaders they can be, and have always found CKI members to be highly motivated to improve the world through leading others in service.

Describe Yourself in Three Words I love life.

Favorite CKI Memory and Why My year as CKI Governor was one of the most influential years of my life. Being a big brother in Big Brothers and Sisters was my most memorable project because I was able to have such a positive impact on a young person who really needed a male role model.

A Fun Fact I recently started a charity called Climb7Summits4Haiti.org that through my mountain climbing and polar trekking I raise money for Hatian grassroots self-development programs.

Favorite Service Project and Why The Eliminate Project because we are saving lives and eradicating MNT.
