How to Start Your Own Stay at Home Moms Group Stay at home moms groups are a excellent way to make new friends for you and your children. They are also helpful in making a local support group for stay at home mom's in your area. The Mom's Group I am currently a member of has been a lifesaver. Anyone that chooses to stay at home and raise their children should be a member of a Mom's group. There are nationwide Mom's Organizations such as MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). Unfortunately they are not available in all areas and are geared towards moms with preschoolers. Starting your own Mom's group enables you to reach mom's in places where there are no existing groups. You can also allow moms with children of all ages in. You can also make your own rules and mission statement. The first steps you to take when starting a stay at home moms group is to choose a name and write a mission statement. This allows you to keep a certain type of focus to your group. Be creative with your name! Make it cute and catchy, something that will look good on a flyer or a poster. A mission statement should be brief and precise. For example, if your focus is for home schooling mom's, you could say: The purpose of (name of group) is to help stay at home moms raise and home school their children. Next, spread the word. Make some flyers and posters to put up around town. Pick a day to have an informal play day at a park where you can meet other moms and start to set up your group. Put the flyers in places where you know mom's frequent such as schools, libraries or grocery stores. Some newspapers will print a small ad for cheap or free. Make sure to email everyone you know with the date and time. Once you have your play day, discuss with the other moms what you would like your mom's group to accomplish. Set some goals and write down some ideas on things your group wants to do. Once you have members, the best thing to do is make a monthly calendar of activities that will be available to them. You can make play days, outings, meetings, and Mom's Night Out. Play days can be held at a member's house, a park, a library, or a restaurant. The Mom's group I am a member of has found a restaurant that lets us use the backroom for free. This way the children are contained and can't get away from the group, and we do not disturb any other restaurant patrons. Outings or field trips are

also a great way for stay at home mom's to get out and have some fun. You can go to water parks, zoos, museums and movies. Be creative! My mom's group always look for discount days or places we can get coupons to. Outings do not have to be expensive! One of the most important part of a Mom's Group is to have a Mom's Night Out. You need to make sure you focus on mom's needs and not just the children's. Mom's Night Out gives you a chance to kick back, relax, and have adult conversation. I recommend at least one of these a month. You can have these anywhere. Some places for a night out for mom's would be, a park, a movie, a restaurant, a scrap booking party, even just playing games at a members house can be fun. Definitely make it a priority to have a night just for the Mom's! Creating your own Stay at Home Mom's group is very easy. Make a name, a mission statement, and a calendar and then put out the word. Mom's from your are a will be grateful, and mom's and children alike will greatly benefit from the group.
