Please welcome our newest members: Full Golf Members Devin & Michele Reid

Dear Members, With frigid temperatures and a snow-covered course, we’re going to try to heat things up inside the Clubhouse this month with a flurry of activities including one of the most popular events of the year … the Father/Daughter Dance. This year’s dance theme is “Hollywood Premiere” so get ready to walk the red carpet! I’ll be there with my daughter, Lucy, and I hope to see a lot of dad and daughter duos there as well. We’re rolling out a fun evening of friendly competition at Trivia Night on February 5th so come put your knowledge to the test. Other events scheduled for this month include Valentine Brunch on February 9th and Valentine Dinner on February 14th. For those of you with young children, you can still have date night on Valentine’s Day since we’re offering our Parents’ Night Out sitter service that evening, too. We hope to see you at the Club soon! Steve Shrawder, President The National Golf Club steves@thenationalgolfclub.com

Dear Members, As we find ourselves in the middle of another Kansas City winter, our work on the golf course continues. The creek restoration project on #17 is about 50% complete. Outside of a few setbacks due to the weather, the project is moving along as planned. A lot of sediment is being removed to bring the creek back to its original size and depth. This will definitely improve water flow and the new liner and rock will dramatically improve the aesthetics of the creek and waterfall feature. See the photos below to see our progress so far. The maintenance team has also been busy with tree work. The majority of this work has taken place on the left side of the #1 cart path to allow more sunlight and air movement to penetrate the left-hand rough which we hope will improve turf and provide drier conditions. We have also been removing dead trees throughout the course and pruning Sycamore trees, mainly on holes #5 through #8, to improve the appearance and health of these trees. This work will continue through February. Our snowfall year-to-date is 9 inches. This takes us to half of our annual average of 20 inches! With all of the moisture we have experienced, we are hoping to stay below our average in snowfall. The Golf Course Maintenance team is looking forward to spring and we can’t wait to see you all on the course as the weather improves!

Regards, Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance garys@fivestarlifestyles.com

The month of February brings with it one of our favorite occasions to celebrate with food, wine and spirits! It’s our annual Valentine Dinner on February 14th, offering a delectable menu and the opportunity to avoid crowds and long waits on what should be a romantic, relaxing evening. Spend the holiday with us and bring the kids as we are offering our Parents’ Night Out sitter service. You’ll have a quiet dinner downstairs while professional sitters feed and entertain the kids upstairs in the Clubhouse. Have you had the opportunity to try our weekly Dinner Specials yet? Our talented culinary team gets to broaden their horizons and try some new offerings on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. These specials help keep our menus fresh and give our chefs the opportunity to use seasonal and local products. We send the menus out in advance via email each week so be sure to check out the specials of the week. Of course, our regular menu is also available. If you’ve been in the Clubhouse lately, you’ve probably noticed the new flat screen television in the lobby. We will use it to highlight upcoming events, display important information you need to know and share photos of some of our dinners, parties and activities. We hope to see you around the Clubhouse this month. It’s warm inside … come visit soon! Jack Meyers Director of Food & Beverage jackm@thenationalgolfclub.com

We’re proud to feature these wines at the Clubhouse!

The Kiss Spumante Brut This sparkling wine is straw yellow in color with delicate orchard and citrus fruit aromas. It is well balanced with notes of lemon zest and green apple, culminating in a fruity, crisp finish.

Le Provençal Cotes de Provence Inviting bouquet of red currants, strawberries and melon. At once delicate, yet flavorful on the palate with a long, refreshing finish. An ideal wine to serve with lighter fare and exceptional with grilled fish. $7.75 per glass $28 per bottle Page 6
