Learner Handbook 2014 It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Croydon Voluntary Action and to wish you every success in your training with us. Croydon Voluntary Action runs a number of short, medium and long courses. We really hope you enjoy your time with us and that you will use your course or workshop to fulfill your ambitions Our aim is to ensure that you as one of our valued learners not only achieve your potential, but will surpass it. We are committed to your success because your success is our success. As one of our learners, we care about you and will be available to help you should the need arise. Training Formats: We have three training format options available, 1) face-to-face ( one to one intensive), 2) work based, 3) classroom based or 4) blended learning. All options will take into account your preferred learning style and you will be taught at a pace you find comfortable. Certification – sometimes we run accredited as well as non accredited courses. Re-sits: On accredited training courses, you may have to re-sit a module you do not pass first time around. We will work with you to achieve this
Assessment on Accredited Courses Accredited Courses have modules and usually you must pass the relevant modules to gain the Award or Certificate. Assessment can be by the following: •
Multiple choice theory papers
Practical – you may be required to bring one helper for your practical assessment
CVA Enterprise is in the process of starting up new courses and can be part of your learning process Malpractice by Students on Assessed Accredited Courses All assessments, practicals and assignments should be completed and undertaken by the Learner. To copy someone else’s work or exam is known as plagiarism and will not be accepted in any part of your assessment. To ask someone else to sit your practical exam is equally not permitted. Instances of malpractice include: o Copying some or all of another person’s written work with or without their consent o Getting someone else to help you complete the assignment or practical o Deliberate failure to reference work properly
Anyone suspected of plagiarism will be subject to a full investigation by CVA and will be notified to the relevant Awarding Body
How to appeal against a final unit mark or an assessment decision All students have the right to appeal against their final unit assessment. However, this should not be undertaken lightly. The only grounds for appeal are that: o You believe that the Tutor / Assessor has made an error or regulations have not been properly followed o We were unaware of circumstances that could have significantly affected you during assessment and you have a relevant reason why you did not use the extenuating circumstances You cannot appeal simply because you are unhappy with the mark or classification. Student feedback and complaints procedure: We are always looking to improve what we do and your comments are always welcome. At the end of each course we will ask you to complete a written student feedback form If you have any suggestions that would improve our procedures, please contact us either by telephone: 020 8253 1263 or by email to email@example.com However, if you have a serious complaint or concern please refer to our complaint procedure below. Feedback/Complaints Mechanisms This procedure applies to both our internal and external customers. If you have a complaint about how you have been treated during the training process or feel that the standard of service you have received has not been appropriate please do not hesitate to contact us at Croydon Voluntary Action 4
In all cases we will endeavor to respond to your complaint within 7 working days.

Croydon is served by the A232 east/west and the A23 north/south main roads. The A23 links Croydon, via the M23, with the M25 Junction 7/8. Central Croydon is 10 miles from the M25 Junction 7/8. There are also many cycle routes leading into Croydon. Croydon has two mainline rail stations: East Croydon Rail Station (10 mins walk) has a good rail service to many stations including: Bedford, Brighton, Caterham, Clapham Junction, Crawley, East Grinstead, Gatwick Airport, Haywards Heath, Kings Cross, Lewes, London Victoria, London Bridge and Redhill.
West Croydon Rail Station (two minutes walk) has a good rail service to many stations including: Crystal Palace; Dorking; Epsom; Guildford; Horsham; London Victoria; London Bridge; Mitcham and Sutton. There are three main Tram routes: Tramlink 1 - Serving West Croydon, East Croydon, Sandilands, Addiscombe and Elmers End. Tramlink 2 - Serving West Croydon, East Croydon, Birkbeck and Beckenham Junction. Tramlink 3 - Serving Wimbledon, Mitcham Junction, West Croydon, East Croydon, Sandilands, Addington Village and New Addington Car Parking: We have limited street parking via Pay-for Meters. Once you are enrolled on course code: F4A 002 or F4A 004 or F4A 005 we can offer you up to three hours a day FREE Parking at our Easy Gym Car Park.
