EDUC ATION

Lord Wandsworth College’s 6th Form 6th Form is not only the most important academic years of a child’s educational journey to date, but is also a pivotal time for developing the characteristics required to excel beyond school and in to the world of employment. At Lord Wandsworth College their formula is certainly working with pupils achieving the University of their choice and having great success in a variety of industries. Students are given the freedom to develop their independence, explore new interests, and rise to a multitude of leadership opportunities alongside academic commitments. Additional responsibilities, a more flexible timetable and a growing focus on life after school means they develop greater confidence and are well prepared for University and beyond.

Academics A Level class sizes here are small giving everyone the chance to make a valuable contribution, maximise their learning and really engage with their subjects. Tutors act as mentors through these crucial years with one-to-one sessions readily available. Their stretch and challenge programme is all about a new mind set where students are asked to stretch themselves to an academic level two years ahead of where they currently are. Inspirational teaching is at the heart of this programme and above all there is the engagement with truly varied subject matter and a sense of real fellowship between student and teacher.

Assistance with fees may also be available via a means tested bursary.

Boarding and Community Boarding provides a distinctive sense of community at LWC and offers a fantastic environment in which to form strong bonds and lifelong friendships. Their campus, set within 1200 acres of rolling Hampshire countryside, provides a safe and inspiring environment to study in and is only 1 hour from London. The independence that a boarding house community offers is great preparation for the transition to University.

In conclusion

Scholarships and Awards Scholarships and awards are offered for excellence in academics, music, art, drama and sports which are rewarded with a reduction in the school fees, so transferring to the private sector at this stage can make financial as well as scholastic sense.

LWC really excel in their comprehensive programme of leadership and co-curricular opportunities; DofE, peer mentoring, house committees, CCF, running a club, departmental prefects or one of the many other weekly activities. There is an incredible choice of sport, music and drama on offer here. With genuine opportunities to make a difference, students are actively encouraged to feedback on all aspects of College life and to have their voice heard. Their views on teaching methods, campus developments and the co-curricular on offer are all part of this process to engage and empower.
