First Church Following Christ
Pastor’s Perspective Do you twitter, text, facebook, e-mail on your phone, ipad or laptop? Do you write notes, make phone calls, and stop by to visit people? These are ways we communicate in our day with technology and our lives. The essence of these different methods is to ―connect‖ with people. I believe that we were created, designed by our Creator, to be in relationship. So our spirit is seeking to be in relationship, have friends, to be known and know others. Think about this; even God, is in a relationship as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Three in One. So, if you twitter or text, or call or visit may your desire to relate to others lead you into friendships with other believers in Christ. We all need to know that we are not alone in this life, especially fellow believers in Christ. So, as the Body of Christ, the Church may we continue to communicate to all people with a variety of methods. The next sermon I give might be live or it might come to you as a podcast on your I-pad. Who knows what the future holds and what we will do to share the Good News with others. In all the ways we relate to others may we ―Love one another.‖ However we communicate that love is good. May the Lord bless you. See you in worship. In Christ’s Love, Ted

We will take a look at the five aspects of the vows of faith in each of the three weeks. On October 9 we will explore “Offering our Prayer and Presence,” (Believe). On October 16 we will look at “Offering our Gifts and Service,” Mark 12:28 – 34, (Grow). Then on Sunday, October 23 the message will focus on “Offering our Witness,” (Impact). Epworth Forest Legacy Campaign Update Our youth enjoyed the new facility at Epworth Forest on July 3rd thru 8th this summer. You have seen pictures and heard the stories of how their camping experience has changed their lives. The legacy continues as the new facilities are being used for year round retreats for all ages. The second waterfront lodge out of six is nearing completion and will be dedicated on October 23, 2011. Our church has pledged $75,000 as major tribute gift and will be honored with a plaque in the common area of one of the lodges once our pledge has been fulfilled. Many thanks go out to those who have pledged and contributed towards this gift. The remaining balance of our pledge is $28,533. Additional pledges are needed and may be made and paid through our church to go toward our total church pledge of $75,000. Individuals who pay their pledge through our church will have individual tribute opportunities. The tribute allows the honoring or remembering of a special event or person in the donor’s life. It is an important way for donors to share their excitement, history and vision for Epworth Forest. A Memory Tree will be placed in Freeland House lobby temporarily, and then it will be moved to the lobby of the new Conference Center upon its completion. Donors to the Epworth Forest Project will have the opportunity to place a leaf on the Memory
Tree in honor of or in memory of a special person, family or group. The Path of Faith is a special path of bricks, which will eventually surround the Jesus Statue when it is moved to its new location. Until then, the path of bricks will be laid just outside the current auditorium. The tribute opportunities are: PATH OF FAITH BRICKS: $500 per brick MEMORY TREE: $1,000 Bronze Leaf $5,000 Silver Leaf $10,000 Gold Leaf (The leaves and bricks will allow for 30 characters, including spaces.) If you have any questions about the twelve-million dollar project that will be able to bring more youth and adults to Christ through the facilities at Epworth Forest, please contact anyone on our church Legacy Campaign Committee: Jerry and Paula Yoder, Susi and Brian Webb, Sherri Sible, Norm Hartman, or Pastor Wilbur Yates. Festermacher Lodge Opening Ceremony Sunday October 23, 2011 3:00 - 5:00 pm Epworth Forest Conference Center 8580 E. Wesley Lane North Wester, IN 46555 This is a free event and open to all.
