Dear Parents, We know that you and your loved ones have many choices as to how to spend your summer days. Our students and their families know that the Theater Academy experience is like no other. The First Stage philosophy of "life skills through stage skills" provides students with a foundation in theater as well as a deep understanding of human nature and how to relate to each other in a positive, supportive, productive way. All classes are designed to foster self-confidence, creative thinking, problem-solving skills, collaboration, trust and discipline. The creativity cultivated in theater classrooms is carried into every aspect of our lives, and we believe this makes us all more connected, more empathetic, and more prepared to embrace the joys and challenges the world will bring. Thank you for believing in First Stage and our ability to transform lives through theater. We’ll see you this summer!

Presentations

Every Summer Academy session will culminate in a lively presentation of class work during a special “open house” for family and friends on the final class day. Details will be noted in the welcome letter you will receive following registration.

Financial Assistance

Through the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations, First Stage Theater Academy continues to expand its Community Partnership Program to reach even more young people. Partial and full scholarships are available to any student; awards are need-based. Families do not need to qualify for free or reduced lunch. In addition to financial assistance, transportation for students in need may be available as well. Contact Community Partnership Coordinator Malkia Stampley at (414) 267-2973 or at mstampley@firststage.org for a financial aid form or for more information.

Extended Care

Extended Care is designed to help busy working parents. This program is led by Academy Teaching Assistants and offers students an opportunity to participate in games, memorize lines, practice scene work, meet new friends, or just hang out. Extended Care is available at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center location only, and applies to full day and half-day afternoon participants. Extended Care will be available Monday through Friday until 5:15 pm. If you would like your child to attend this extended care, please select the option on the registration form. Extended Care (A) 3:00pm–4:15pm= $50 per week (K5–4) Extended Care (B) 3:00pm–5:15pm= $75 per week (K5–4) Extended Care (C) 4:15pm–5:15pm= $50 per week (5–12)

Internships

An important part of our program is developing future leaders in the arts. Students who become interns take an important step in developing leadership abilities, empathy, further understanding of performance skills, and increased maturity. • Interns are returning Academy students who serve as a role model in the classroom. Students must be entering grades 8–12 in the fall of 2013 to be considered. • An application can be sent to you or downloaded from our website. All interns will receive a $50 tuition credit per week of work that may be used beginning fall of 2013. 4

If you have any further questions, please contact Katie Cummings at (414) 267-2979 or kcummings@firststage.org.

Company Classes will work with a professional director for four weeks to broaden performance skills, deepen knowledge of theater, and produce a show.

Next Steps classes are designed to help students with autism take their next steps as an artist and a person. Guided by our philosophy of teaching life skills through stage skills, students will experience the joy of acting, music, and movement each day with a team of teaching artists and special education professionals.

As a member of Company Class you will be expected to: • Serve as a role model of teamwork and positive energy for all other students. • Support and encourage each other to do your best. • Take on the additional challenge of both class work and rehearsal. • Carry the Company Class legacy of leadership, energy, discipline, focus, and joy.

First Stage Theater Academy Summer 2013

Policies & Registration

Register online today at www.FirstStage.org!

Please print clearly and duplicate this form to enroll more than one student in a family. Any omitted information below will delay registration and jeopardize your chances to enroll in the class before it fills.

Please read the information included here carefully. It will answer many of your questions about the Summer Academy.

If you wish to register two or more students in the same group, you will be given the option to do so online, or you may mail the registrations together and note the student(s) with whom he or she wishes to enroll on the top of the form. First Stage Theater Academy will review these requests and make every effort to honor them, although we cannot guarantee placement in the same group. There is no special consideration extended to registrations delivered in person. Please do not register online and mail or fax a second paper copy. This will duplicate your registration and may result in an accidental double charge. Please note, any information omitted from the registration form will delay registration and your desired class might fill before your enrollment is completed. TUITION Tuition must be paid in full, unless signing up for automatic payment. A $75 deposit is due on date of registration, if signing up for the automatic payment method. The automatic payment will deduct a $75 deposit, and then on Friday, May 31, 2013, the remainder of the tuition will be charged. You may change the credit card payment method or submit full payment via cash or check before the May 31 deadline.

REFUND POLICY There is a $25 administrative fee for all refunds. No refunds are given after May 31, 2013. Students withdrawing after May 31, 2013 will receive tuition credit toward another class. Credits offered will be applicable for up to one year. No refunds or tuition credits are given after the first day of class. The deposit will be forfeited if a student cancels after the session has begun.

CLASS CANCELLATIONS First Stage Theater Academy reserves the right to cancel any course if enrollment is insufficient. Any tuition paid will be refunded in full.

• Switching Classes: If families find that they have a scheduling conflict or other emergency circumstance and need to switch their course selection, they may contact the Academy office to request this change. Students will not be moved from their assigned group after the first day of class. Please be aware that switching class is contingent upon space availability in the desired class. • Attendance/Make-up Policy: If your student is unable to attend a day(s) of class, we do not offer make-up classes. Please contact the Academy office if you know in advance that your student will be absent. If First Stage Theater Academy needs to cancel one or more days of a class due to circumstances beyond the Academy’s control (e.g., severe weather, power outage, etc.), there will be no refunds or make-up classes.

• Sending Students Home: Please use good judgment about bringing your student to the Academy. If your student is sick or contagious, please keep them home. Parents of students who become ill during the day will be promptly notified and are expected to arrange to pick up their student immediately. First Stage Theater Academy also reserves the right to send students home due to inappropriate or disrespectful behavior.

CLASS SIZE AND WAIT LISTS We do maintain enrollment limits to ensure the best possible Academy experience for each student. Wait lists are often established for classes that have reached the enrollment limit. Students on wait lists are commonly called for enrollment, sometimes as late as the day before classes start. Even if the class is filled, we encourage you to be added to our wait list. As we strive to make space for as many students as possible, we are unable to add students to a wait list if they are already enrolled for a different class.
