Ministry News Activities Ministry, Lindsay Graham MINI-MITES BASKETBALL TIP-OFF DECEMBER 3 The Basketball Tip-off for Mini-Mites (K5-K6-1st grade) is Saturday, December 3, at 1:40pm in the Gym. Players will meet their coaches, receive their uniforms, and pose for team photos. A few openings remain for players in the Mini-Mites Division. Call Donna Roper (672.0372) for details. Children’s Ministry OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOE BOXES The Children’s Ministry is requesting filled shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. For a shoe box container and list of items to include, stop by the Children’s Ministry area or email Austin at Return your shoe box by Sunday, November 13th. Help share the gospel with children around the world! Evangelism and Missions, Brian Stewart HOLLIS ACADEMY “ITEM OF THE MONTH” We will be writing notes of encouragement to the faculty and staff of Hollis Academy. During the first two weeks in November, you will find zip-loc bags in the Hollis Bins (in Memorial Hall, the Loggia, and Fellowship Hall). These bags will contain a notecard with the name of a Hollis staff member with suggestions/instructions for your note. Please return your written notes to the church by Sunday, November 20, placing them back in one of the Hollis Bins or leaving them with the church receptionist. The notes will be delivered to the school during the week of Thanksgiving. HELP FEED THE HUNGRY AT THANKSGIVING This year First Presbyterian is again sponsoring Boxes of Love, a ministry that shares the love of Christ with people in need at Thanksgiving. Each Box of Love contains a complete meal for six. FPC is committed to providing boxes to needy families at Mattoon Presbyterian and the Bel-Aire Community. Boxes will be packed and distributed on Saturday, November 19. Financial donations ($30/box) are needed, as well as volunteers to assist in distributing the boxes and meeting with the recipients. Please contact Denton Burnette ( if you can help. SHARE THE WARMTH! Russell Memorial Presbyterian Church is collecting new or gently used blankets, coats, and other warm clothes through November. These items will be distributed when the Latino Ministry hosts its Health Fair for the community early in December. Especially needed are coats and sweaters for children. Donations may be taken to Russell (31 Calhoun Avenue) or dropped off inside the FPC office. Contact Pastor Dale Youngs at Russell Memorial for more information (363.3370). Singles Ministry, Bob Jones CSI:GREENVILLE QUARTERLY LUNCHEON CSI’s next Quarterly Luncheon will be Sunday, November 13, at 12:32pm in Fellowship Hall. Cost is $7.00. TICKETS ON SALE NOW Our youth choirs invite you to their production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, to be presented in Harper Chapel November 18, 19, and 20. Thirtyfive middle and high schoolers, plus one slightly older grandfather, will gather to tell the story of Joseph and his incredible journey from spoiled bragger to governor of Egypt. Tickets are now available in The Vineyard bookstore (adults $15, students $5). Come support our Youth Choirs! UPCOMING MUSICAL EVENTS At 3:00pm on Sunday, November 13, join us in the Sanctuary for the fall concert of the Carolina Chamber Singers. Under the direction of John Gentry, the 20-voice group will be joined by soprano Sarah Reese to perform a number of beautiful Christmas choral pieces and other music. They Admission is $5 at the door. Scouting, Joe Barron TROOP 11 CELEBRATION AND BBQ LUNCH Troop 11 will hold its 100th Anniversary of Scouting at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, November 6. Support the troop by purchasing a great BBQ chicken carry-out dinner following

Scouts, Alumni, Families, and Friends of Troop 11 will gather in Fellowship Hall at 12:30pm for chicken barbecue, fellowship, and the opening of the time capsule sealed by the Troop in 1986. Senior Adult Ministry, Pam Cole HOPE AND HELP FOR THE HOLIDAYS Dr. Pam Cole will speak on “Hope” at this special seminar event for those coping with the loss of a loved one, on Tuesday, November 15, 9:00am– 1:30pm at First Baptist Greenville. Announcements CONGREGATIONAL MEETING NOVEMBER 13 The Session has called a Congregational Meeting for Sunday, November 13, at 10:45am for the purpose of (1) electing the 2012 Nominating Committee; (2) approving the 2012 terms of call for our permanent pastors; (3) approving procedures related to Congregational Meetings due to changes in the Book of Order; and (4) addressing any other business which may be required. A Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, November 20, if a run-off election is required. THANKSGIVING BLOOD DRIVE AT FPC Save the date for the next FPC Blood Drive: Sunday morning, November 27, in the Gym.
