Summer Worship

For Christ in the Heart of Charlotte

Watch for three sermon series this summer: Spiritual Geography, Fruits of the Spirit and Back to School. Spiritual Geography begins with Exodus on June 10 and continues through July 8 with sermons on exile, on the sea and more.

July 15 through August 5, sermons will look at the Fruits of the Spirit, including joy, patience, faithfulness and self-control. A sermon series on Back to School begins on August 12, with a sermon on The Gift of Teachers, and continues through September 2.

PW Honors Members: Karen MacKenzie, left, and Frances Campbell were honored as

2018 Honorary Life Members of Presbyterian Women at the annual Birthday Dinner in May. Karen is the daughter of a preacher and attended Virginia Wesleyan College. She worked in banking for 21 years and is a volunteer tutor with the Augustine Literacy Project. A First Pres member since 1985, she sings in the Sanctuary Choir, taught the Photo courtesy of Eleanor Hatcher fifth grade Sunday school class, rang handbells from 1986-2006, and served as a deacon and PW moderator. As PW historian, she recently completed a scrapbook of pictures and information about PW events dating back to 2011. Frances attended East Carolina University and received her Master’s in Education at Appalachian State University. After teaching middle school for CharlotteMecklenburg Schools, she took a teaching position at First Presbyterian’s Weekday School and ultimately served as Assistant Director of the Weekday School. Having been an FPC member for more than 30 years, she has served as a deacon, is a member of the Funeral Guild and is a member of the West Campus Committee, which is planning for future development of the church. She served as PW Moderator in 2013-14.

Weekly Activities Calendar

The following activities occur each week during the summer months on the days indicated.

Sundays

Sunday Morning Fellowship On the lawn and in Wood Fellowship Hall. 10-11 a.m. Worship Sanctuary, 11 a.m. (Beginning May 27 through September 2, we will have one Sunday worship service at 11 a.m.)

Sunday Morning Formation for All Ages Wood Fellowship Hall, 10 a.m. Summer Centering, combined Formation for Adults and Youth, and Children and Kindergarten, with the theme Faces of our Faith)

Mondays

It’s summertime and the living is easy, but that doesn’t mean your church’s programs go on vacation! FPC’s activities, missions and programs continue on and off our centercity campus through the summer months as we work to be for Christ in the Heart of Charlotte.

Summer worship, with one service on Sundays, begins May 27 and continues through September 2.

Tuesdays

On June 3, Summer Centering, our Intergenerational Formation, begins in Wood Fellowship Hall, 10-10:45 a.m. Also on this day, we will have a special worship service of music and meditations, led by pastors, the Sanctuary Choir and guest instrumentalists. Stay afterward for a Food Truck Lunch on the lawn (bring a blanket or a lawn chair).

Fridays

In July, the Ivey Handbell Ringers will take their annual tour, returning on July 22. Join them in a Homecoming Concert on that date.

Saturdays
