September 2 & 9, 2012 Christ at the Center
O
n this Labor Day weekend we will turn our attention to the Book of James 1:17-27. James calls us to be “doers of the word, and not merely hearers.” September 2 -Chris MooreHe reminds us to Keish to preach actively engage in righteous work. As disciples of Jesus Christ we see work as a gift of God, a sharing in God’s creativity. As we enter into this Labor Day weekend, whether you are joining us for worship or spending time with family and friends, I invite you to take a moment to reflect on your labor in God’s vineyard and how you are living out your calling as “doers of God’s Word.” I leave with you a Labor Day prayer that I hope you will join with me in offering to God: God of Creation, who fashioned the world and all of its inhabitants, who flung the stars into the heavens and set the planets in their courses, we thank you for giving us creative work to do in your world. You left enough work to be done that we can contribute to your creation with the work of our hands, hearts and minds. But Lord, give us the grace to see that we have been created for more than work. Help us to make our work into our ministry, to the glory of You and for our brothers and sisters in our neighborhoods, nation and world. Amen.

s we return to our regular fall schedule on September 9, I am looking forward with great anticipation to welcoming all of you back to worship at 9:00 and 11:15 am in the sanctuary and another new church year! Our overall and September 9 - George Wirth ongoing theme “Christ to preach At The Center” will be focused in a particular way during the months ahead as we seek, in the words of the prophet Isaiah, to “ wait for the Lord”, “to renew our strength” and “to mount up with wings like eagles, to run and not grow weary, to walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). Waiting, renewing, flying, running and walking are all action words which move us forward in our spiritual journey, looking to the Lord to lead us every step of the way! Realizing that this will be my final year here as pastor of this great congregation, I also want everyone to know that I am trusting in God to guide us and provide us with a sense of direction as we set our sails to the winds of transition and change, believing beyond the shadow of a doubt that “in all things, God works together for good for those who love Him and are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). So please join with me, our wonderful staff and all of our faithful church officers as we join hearts and hands together in worship, work and witness, and may the Lord grant us joy for the journey that is before us! Faithfully Yours, George B. Wirth Return to Regular Schedule September 9th, Celebration Sunday
