March 17 & 24, 2013 Christ at the Center
I
am writing this en route from Jerusalem to Atlanta at the end of an incredible two week journey with 22 fellow pilgrims in Jordan and Israel. It has March 17 - Craig Goodrich to preach been a wonderful time of education, inspiration, challenge and fellowship. In a few hours we will say good bye to one another, never to be together again in the same way. But we will always cherish the memories and friendships. So too, this Sunday a much longer journey is coming to an end. I am so grateful to God and to you for all you have meant to me, to Andie and our family over these twenty plus years, and especially for your love and your molding me into a pastor. It has been a great privilege and joy to serve alongside you. The scripture chosen for Sunday is 1st John 4: 7-21 which includes these truths, “We love because he first loved us” and “love casts out fear.” In other words, God’s grace, which is the love of God in Jesus Christ, always comes first and, when received with open hearts and minds, expels fear and compels us to love and serve others. How simple and yet how profound! I hope to see you Sunday as we worship God together. The sermon is entitled “Grace First.” And the truth is that “grace” is both the first and the last word. Grace to you and much love.
• Five @ First - 5:00 pm, Reception Room
Gratefully,
• Officer Training - 6 pm, Rm 323 • Confirmation Worship - 7:00 pm,
Craig
P alm /P assion S unday I know not where the road will lead I follow day by day, Or where it ends: I only know I walk the King’s highway. March 24 - George Wirth I know not if the to preach way is long, and no one else can say: But rough or smooth, up hill or down, I walk the King’s highway. And some I love have reached the end, but some with me may stay, Their faith and hope still guiding me, I walk the King’s highway.
A
s we take our final steps on the road toward Easter Day, these words remind us where we have traveled this Lenten season and who we are as fellow pilgrims. The journey has been long, but the destination is now in sight. As we make our way toward Holy Week, let us prepare our hearts and homes to celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ! The Palm/Passion Sunday sermon is entitled “The Will of God for Our Nation and World.” Come join us for our worship celebration!
Faithfully yours,
George B. Wirth
