Throughout the Bible, we see that Jesus had a special heart and love for those in need. He told us to look after orphans and widows, and He consistently went out of His way to help, heal, and spend time with people many others chose to ignore. This holiday season, we’re excited to share several practical things YOU can do to serve, love, and make a difference in our community and around the world. We invite you to flip through this booklet with your family (or your small group, co-workers, or neighbors) and choose a project or two to help someone in need. Whether you choose one, two, five or zero of these projects, make an effort to show Jesus’ love to those around you this season. The holidays are a busy, stressful, and sometimes very difficult time for a lot of people. Small things like a smile and a prayer can have a big impact. We encourage you to live out the “Live, Give, Go” message and make a difference this holiday season!

LAST YEAR... God blessed many lives through the genorosity of the First MB family. With your help, we can do it again!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver gifts to children in desperate situations around the world. By packing a shoebox full of gifts, you can help a child experience unconditional love and share the life-changing news of Jesus. Visit the First MB lobby on Sundays in November or visit to find out how to pack and prepare a box! Return your boxes on Sundays in November or during collection week (November 18–25).

THE GIVING TREE Pick a star from the Giving Tree in the Upper Lobby and provide a gift for someone in need in the Wichita area. Give specific items for individual children and adults (clothes and gifts), or if you’re looking for a larger project for your family or small group, consider adopting an entire family for Christmas! We are excited to partner with these organizations through the Giving Tree: •Never Alone Crisis Ministries •Lighthouse Community Church •The Breakthrough Club •Pregnancy Crisis Center •Youth Horizons •Venture House (Episcopal Social Service) •First Baptist Church Downtown Breakfasts

Three ways to be a part of this project: 1) Donate money toward the dinners (cost is $30 per dinner) 2) Participate in a prayer walk through the Oaklawn community on December 8 3) Sign up to be a part of the delivery crew on December 15 Visit the Connect Table starting November 24 to get involved!

DECEMBER 8 & 15 6

NUMANA PROJECT Numana is an international hunger relief organization that facilitates food packaging events across the country. Volunteers serve in an assembly-line fashion, packaging simple, nutritious meals. The meals include a mix of rice, beans, protein, vitamins, and minerals targeted to help the immune system of malnourished people. The cost of each life-sustaining meal is only 30 cents. Numana meals are sent around the world, but Numana events also benefit local needs, as volunteers are asked to bring non-perishable food items for local food banks. We are excited to partner with Numana as a new holiday project this year! Our goal is to pack 130,000 meals in just four hours. A table of 10 volunteers can package up to 1,500 meals per hour (Yes‌ there have been contests!). We believe that if we fill our Activity Center with tables and volunteers, we can easily reach this goal!

Where will the food go? The food packaged at this event will benefit students throughout Rwanda through Africa New Life, a Rwandan-founded relief organization. Who can participate? You, your kids (over age 7), your neighbors, co-workers, friends... Basically, any humans. During the Christmas season, many are open to helping and serving others in ways they don’t during the rest of the year. Invite someone who doesn’t normally go to church to come pack food through Numana with you! (Childcare and activities provided for kids through age 6.) What do I need to do? 1. Visit to register yourself, your family, or your friends for a two-hour shift. Look for the First MB logo with the December 7 date. The password to sign up: Africa 2. Arrive on December 7 about 15 minutes ahead of your work time 3. Bring a canned good or non-perishable food item (for the food pantry of The Giving Center) 4. Have fun serving! 8

DID YOU KNOW? First MB serves breakfast downtown several times a year. Can’t make it this time? Keep an eye on the bulletin and website for the next opportunity to serve.

Every Sunday morning, those who are struggling financially or are homeless are able to enjoy a free breakfast at First Baptist Church in downtown Wichita. December 29 we have a chance to help make this happen! Volunteers are needed to bake muffins, egg casseroles, or to serve food. Visit the Connect Table starting Sunday, December 8, or sign up online at

MEXICO TRIP Consider dedicating yourself to a week of service! In March 2014, we will once again be sending a team to serve at the Foundation For His Ministries Mission in Vincente Guerrero, Mexico. The FFHM Mission is a thriving, multifaceted ministry that provides the necessities of life to 90 needy and/ or abandoned children in a loving, Christian environment. Children live in family units with ‘house parents’ and attend the Mission’s school. First MB workgroups participate in the life of the Mission by doing everything from facility work projects to playing with kids to give caregivers a break. If you are interested in this great opportunity to see God’s work up close, visit the Mexico page at
