THE FIRST BAPTIST LYMAN
Homebound Of The Week
Church family and friends, Let me begin my letter to you this day with praise and thanksgiving. On Sunday evening during First Joy, we were blessed by four incredible testimonies. Donna Burt shared about God’s faithfulness through answered prayer and through his promise to bless those who obediently tithe. Jerry Dowis shared about the spiritual journey that he and Jane have been through since her stroke several years ago. He thanked the church and praised God for the prayers of godly friends. Kim Carey opened her heart and described to us the challenge of leaving family behind in Alabama and coming to serve the Lord at First Lyman. She reminded us that God’s way is always the right way and He’ll take care of all our needs. Finally, Ashley Gosnell spoke concerning their family adoption. She challenged us to consider the fact that God has adopted us into His family. Based upon this truth, we should be mindful of the ministry to orphans through prayer, financial support and adoption. “Father, I praise you for your goodness and mercy. You are so faithful to your promises. You always come through and meet our needs. I thank you for your patience and for answered prayers. I also thank you for these four individuals and their families. What amazing testimonies they have. Thank you, Father, for using them to impact so many others for your Kingdom. We love you…In Jesus’ name, amen.” There are several important things for you to remember. First, this Sunday, Brian Lark will be with us for our Global Missions Sunday. Brian will be sharing with us about his call to plant a church. We will be receiving a special offering Sunday that will go to Global Missions. Second, on Sunday, June 5, we will worship through the Lord’s Supper. Later that afternoon we will gather at Lake Cooley for food, fun and fellowship! Make a note… it’s usually on a Wednesday, but not this year. And finally, be faithful to the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting. This is a vital part of what God is doing in the life of our church. We need everyone seeking the Lord together. I love you and appreciate you so much. What an incredible church family we have. Please be praying for our deacons as they diligently minister to our church body. Pray also for the many guests that are seeking the Lord’s guidance concerning church membership. God bless, Pastor Scott

From The Minister Of Music & Senior Adults Musical Notes The Senior Adult Choir meets for rehearsal Tuesday, at 10:00 AM in the choir room. We will leading the evening worship service at People’s Baptist Church in Greer on Sunday evening, May 29th. We will leave from our church parking lot at 5:15 PM. We also have some patriotic music to prepare. There is always something going on at choir practice. Come for the doughnuts. Come for the fun! Come for the fellowship! Come for the blessing! Come and be a blessing! Rehearsal for the Adult Choir is on Wednesday, at 7:10 PM in the choir room. We just received some great new music to learn and share. In just a few weeks we will begin to work on Christmas Music. If you have ever wanted to be a part of the choir, now is the time! We will be moving to an earlier summer schedule in just two weeks. Join us as we prepare our hearts, minds and voices for service to our Savior.
One Final Note 2 Cor. 9:12-13 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. Paul wrote that to his friends at Corinth in response to an offering they had taken for the Christians in Jerusalem who had fallen on hard times. In hard times our compassion for those who are struggling magnifies. While this is a natural human response, it is especially true for Christians. We love to meet the needs of those who are down. The difficult thing for us to remember is that while physical needs may be more immediately pressing, meeting spiritual needs has the greatest and most lasting impact. While the tornados in Tuscaloosa broke hundreds of houses, I assure you that broken hearts outnumber houses ten times over. Your generosity in the form of gift cards and cash will enable some local churches to meet physical needs in Jesus’ name. You see, FEMA can give you a place to sleep, but only Jesus can give you the peace to sleep. The Red Cross can give you a meal, but only Jesus offers the bread of life. Americorps can remove the trees from your yard, but only Jesus can remove the burdens from your heart. The church has a unique place in disaster relief. We offer what the world offers and what the world can’t offer. “… the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity...” Helping churches help people advance the Kingdom. Thank you for your ministry.

We are also very excited to have Tyler Finley with us to work with our children this summer. This dude is a beast. He actually aced my Old Testament course at North Greenville, so you know he’s cool. Tyler loves Jesus and has a passion for seeing the next generation come to know Jesus and to advance His kingdom. He just finished his freshman year at NGU, where he is a Christian Studies major. He’s got some amazing things planned for our children this summer, and I know you’re going to love Tyler! Make sure you give him a “Wassup!” when you see him around the church! This summer is going to be epic! Don’t miss out!
