THE FIRST BAPTIST LYMAN
Encourager From The Pastor
Greetings! Have you heard about the incredible time we've been having at Good News Club? The past two weeks we've been at Beech Springs Intermediate School sharing the Good News. So far, the Lord has blessed us with over a dozen decisions for Christ! Did I hear you say, "Amen!" We have over 100 hundred fifth and sixth graders participating! That's so awesome! We'll be inviting them to be a part of our worship service on Sunday, March 27. Please pray for these children and their families. Many of them do not have a church home. This Sunday we have the joy of worshiping through Believer's Baptism. Five individuals will be baptized as a public expression of their faith in Jesus Christ. Please write a note of encouragement or send a card to these individuals to show your love and support. This past Sunday evening during First Joy, the church selected five individuals to serve on the Sanctuary Improvement Team. This team has the very important task of preparing recommendations for the church concerning the updates, maintenance and repairs to the sanctuary. We are not planning to go into debt or compromise the beauty of our current facility in any way. We just haven't done much over the past 25 years to the existing facility and it's time to freshen things up a bit. Please pray for this team as they serve our church. I love you all. Those who are unable to attend...I hope to visit with you soon. Until then, know that I am praying for you. God bless, Pastor Scott

Musical Notes The Senior Adult Choir meets for rehearsals on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the choir room. In addition to our preparation for Easter “road trips”, we are going to be sharing some music on Sunday morning, March 27th, during the morning worship service. The Adult Choir meets for rehearsal on Wednesdays at 7:10 PM. We are preparing an Easter celebration for our congregation, and to share with the Miracle Hill Ministries on Sunday, April 3rd, at 7:00 PM. Pray for your choirs as they go out and share the message of resurrection power in our community.

One Final Note It is impossible for a child of God not to be moved with compassion for the people of Japan in the wake of the recent earthquakes, tsunami, and the ensuing nuclear power plant disasters. When such devastation takes place in distant parts of the world we are often compelled to look for ways to help and to serve. It encourages me to remember that the Southern Baptist Convention supports the second largest disaster relief organization in the world, (second only to the Red Cross). It encourages me even more to know that our congregation, through faithful giving to the Cooperative Program, helps to support that relief effort. It is that demonstration of love that provides the opportunity to speak the truth into the lives of those who don’t know Jesus. That is the heart of mission work. Speaking the truth in love. Sounds like a good idea. Someone should write that down. Oh, wait, Someone did!!! A word of comfort to believers who find themselves in the middle of a disaster: Isaiah 43:1-3a But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. "For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;… Pray for the people of Japan, and especially for the believers as they lean on the Lord.
bonds that men share.
Dear Church FamilyThank you for the many acts of kindness shown to us during the loss of my Dad. It means so much to be a part of a loving and supportive church family. Buddy, Judy and Family
The family of Brenda Kaye Bishop acknowledges with grateful appreciation your kind expression of sympathy. Thanks to all of you for sending a memorial to the church in memory of Brenda. It was so thoughtful of you. Sincerely, Nancy Eubanks
From the Minister OF Students & Education Thanks for all your prayers! Man, we had a great DiscipleNow Weekend this year! Our speaker Benji brought a great word, and the Browns did an incredible job leading us in worship—and Brian McMakin kept all the technology going! We had some incredible small group leaders—Jonathan Vick, Marcus Fuller, David Burt, Hayley Smith, and Marianna Vick—and some amazing host home leaders—the Bentleys, the Chavouses, the McMillans, and the Mitchems. We even had some extra help for our mission projects from the Careys, Monica Link, and Greg Wood. I am so thankful for each of these guys and for so many others who helped to make DNow weekend possible—they did an amazing job, and God used them all greatly that weekend. On top of our worship times and our small group studies, we took Lyman and Spartanburg by storm with our mission projects—we had a blast laying mulch in a light mist (when it was supposed to be pouring down rain!) at Beech Springs and at Middle Tyger, and we helped to count donations and sort baby clothes at Carolina Pregnancy Center before serving dinner to the homeless at Miracle Hill. God did so much in our hearts that weekend, and we’re praying that He continues to work in us and through us to reach our community for Jesus! Thanks again for all your prayers—now give a prayer of thanksgiving and pray that God continues to do a good work in us!
