Encourager From The Pastor Friends and Family, It’s great to be writing to you again. I hope and pray that you are well and growing in Christ. He loves us so much. It’s a shame that so many are missing out on the blessing of knowing and walking with our Lord.

9/19 - Eddie Knight 7 Groce Road Lyman, SC 29365

I know you’ll want to join me in expressing your thanks and appreciation to Wade Rodgers and Beth Arms for their faithful service in directing our music ministry the past eight months. These guys have been awesome. What a joy it’s been to worship through music under their strong leadership. Thanks Wade and Beth!

9/26 - Kevin Crowe 510 Duncan Station Rd. Duncan, SC 29334

This Sunday, September 19, is the beginning of Jim and Kim Carey’s ministry at First Lyman. The Lord has really blessed us with an amazing couple. Their heart, their experience, their gifts and abilities, are exactly what our church needs for a time such as this.

WEEKLY AT First Baptist Lyman

“Lord, I thank you for your faithful provision. You always know better than we do the needs before us. Based upon your goodness and infinite wisdom, you have provided us with a wonderful couple to lead our ministry to senior adults and to lead our church to worship through music. I ask you, Lord, to richly bless Jim and Kim as they begin their new role on our ministry team. Bless Ricky, Jim, and I as we seek to lead our church to experience you in ways like never before. We love you and commit ourselves to you this day. In the name of Jesus I offer this prayer, amen.” I love you all so much, I will continue my “Disney series” in the next episode. See you Sunday. God bless, Pastor Scott

Opportunities Prayer Breakfast is back!! Sunday, September 19 - 8:30am CALLING ALL MEN!!! At First Lyman we believe the role men play in the leadership of God's calling is critical. At 8:30 am on the 3rd Sunday of each month we meet in the Fellowship Hall, young and old, single and married, father and son, grandfather and grandson to discuss the importance of strong Christian leadership and to nurture the unique bonds that men share. Oh...and did I mention we EAT! Join us this month for a relaxing time of food and fellowship.

First Lyman Family, Thank you for the awesome opportunity to assist with the choir and music program at our church. Wade has done an outstanding job as our Interim and to work with him, our accompanists, Pastor Scott, and Ricky, has been a blessing. The choir is a dedicated and talented group of humble servants who do amazing things with the gifts God has given to them. The beautiful plant is a reminder of the loving and supportive church family that I have been honored to serve for the past eight months. Much love, Beth Arms

Churc Church News Precept Bible Study, led by Whitney Stancil Each Thursday, September 16 - November 18, 2010 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM Men and women are encouraged to participate in this inductive Bible study. An inductive study of God’s Word focuses on three important steps: observation, interpretation, and application. This method uses an investigative approach that takes each person to the text directly. If you can read a newspaper, you can study the Bible. The Lord has used this important skill to radically transform the lives of those who hunger for Him and for His Word. For more information, or to sign up, call the church office, 439-8721.

Baptism Sunday, September 26 If a member of your family is interested in being baptized, please contact the church office by Sunday, Sept. 19

From the Minister OF

Well, we kicked things off in our new room last Sunday night, and man, was it kickin’! Josh Massey did an awesome job leading us in worship on the gee-tar! Chris Walker and Kevin Crowe manned the sound board for us, and we had some incredible adults come down and be a part of our Sunday Night Bible Study. Jordan and Joseph helped us greet the masses, and Seth and Griffin helped us do some awesome giveaways. And Samuel Eubanks, well, he is officially the coolest kid I know. Ever. Of all time. Period. “Why?” you ask. Well, let’s just say that joker has bragging rights for the rest of his days! And he has a Mercy Me CD to prove it. We also kicked off a new series last Sunday night called “Your Own Personal Jesus: Finding the Real Jesus in a Sea of Posers.” We’ve heard a lot of junk about Jesus in our culture, and it’s time for us to set the record straight. So we’re doing what theologians would call a Christology—that is, a study of Christ. We’re on a quest to find out who the real Jesus is by getting to know Him through His Word. We want to see Jesus lifted up—we want Him to be famous in Lyman. And we want to have such a big view of Jesus that we can do nothing but fall flat on our faces and worship Him. We’re so excited to see how God is going to work in our lives over the next several weeks as we get to know Jesus for who He really is—and not for what we want Him to be. Again, we are so excited to be in our new space. So many of you made it possible for us to be here—whether you painted or cleaned or gave, we would not be here without you. And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And we look forward to this being a place where Jesus is lifted up, students come to know Him, and God is glorified. Praise Him!
