Anachronism 2020 Zinfandel Rutherford, Napa Valley, California
Vintage The 2020 growing season treated Rutherford to fantastic weather. After a dry winter, spring brought warm temperatures, kick-starting an early bud break. The following summer allowed for slow and steady ripening, uninterrupted by wet weather. These Zinfandel vines range from 30 to 50 years old and are dry-farmed using organic vineyard practices. This harmonious combination of mindful viticulture and pristine weather results in pure and concentrated varietal flavors with lusciously smooth textures.
Region Rutherford AVA is a small sub-region of Napa Valley with a big reputation. Nestled on the valley floor, it is considered one of the warmest sub-regions in Napa, ideally suited to producing bold, structured expressions of Zinfandel. The area’s unique soil type and terroir shape wines with high tannins that feel softly textured on the palate—a phenomenon known as “Rutherford dust.”
Tasting notes Our Zinfandel is jammy and rich. The nose offers a luxurious bouquet of plum and ripe berry aromas with smooth baking spice. The wine’s full-bodied palate mirrors its velvety nose as lush textures emphasize notes of black cherry with hints of dark chocolate and coconut husk from oak aging. After each sip, soft tannins leave the region’s classic “Rutherford dust” sensation on the palate—a satisfying finish from a complex, terroir-driven wine.

Pairing logic This Zinfandel is the perfect companion to a special meal as you take your time to savor and enjoy. Dishes with big flavors and textures will match its smooth yet bold structure. Grilled, marbled red meats with savory rubs and generous salt will accentuate the wine’s body and fruit flavors. Vegetarian dishes with sturdy starches, like lentils or hearty root vegetables, will do the same. This wine is also an excellent end-of-evening wine sipped alongside aged cheeses, high-cacao chocolate, and toasted nuts.
Menu suggestions • Slow-cooked herb and lentil stew • Root vegetable gratin with herbs and cheese • Eggplant bourguignon • Coffee-rubbed beef short ribs • Beef tenderloin in balsamic glaze • Filet Mignon with sour cherry sauce
Serving instructions Temperature: Room temperature (60–65°F) Decanting time: 45 minutes Glassware: Bordeaux glass
Winemaking After hand harvesting and sorting the grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at warm temperatures to enhance the wine’s color and tannin. It is then aged in a combination of French and American oak to add complexity and soften textures, creating an impressive, age-worthy Zinfandel well-suited to your finest occasions.
Spotlight Cellar • Hand harvesting allows for meticulous fruit selection before winery sorting.
• Fermenting red wine at warm temperatures extracts color, tannin and flavor from the grape skins.
Vineyard • Dry farming increases grape’s flavor concentration and vines’ resilience. • Early bud break extends the growing season, giving grapes extra time to reach optimal ripeness.
