KAUN BANEGA JAIPUR KA MAYOR? THE CONGRESS HOPEFULS RAJEEV ARORA

C Yogesh Sharma Jaipur: Although there is still time left for the elections of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) which will decide who will be the Mayor of Pink City, however, stalwarts from both Congress and BJP are now lobbying hard to reach to the coveted post. If the Mayoral position goes to the General category, then there will be a swarm of candidates. Amongst the directly elected positions, the election of Jaipur Mayor is one of the most sought after post. In the previous Gehlot government, the elections for the Mayor’s post were held according to direct election process wherein people voted and chose their own Mayor instead of a Mayor being nominated by the party leaders and thus Congress party’s Jyoti Khandelwal became the Mayor. However, there are talks of two mayors being made this time around and thus the

election could be interesting. Being the Mayor of state capital Jaipur is not less than a major accomplishment for any leader. The Gehlot government, then, had created sensation by announcing that Mayor will be directly elected. Now, a tiff is ongoing on in the Congress party which is in power as to who will contest the elections for the coveted post of Jaipur’s Mayor. Sources reveal that talks are going on that the JMC could be divided into two, between four assembly constituencies on each side which would result in two Mayors of Jaipur. Moreover, due to increase in number of wards, more politicians will get an opportunity to contest in the elections. Interestingly, the election for Jaipur Mayor is held over a bigger territory than that of a MP and the names of many stalwart leaders of Congress are doing the rounds.

Building area is completely ready but Roadways administration has not started new area yet due to administrative and political issues

First India News Jaipur: The reconstruction work of Sindhi Camp Bus Stand in Jaipur has been completed. The building area is completely ready after construction for more than five months. However, the Roadways administration has not started the new area yet due to administrative and political issues. In fact, the reconstruction of Sindhi

Camp Bus Stand has remained controversial since the beginning. The construction work was started in the previous tenure of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot around six years ago in September 2013. According to the plan, a three-storey bus stand was to be built by spending Rs50 crore. After the change in government, the BJP made many changes in the project and prepared a new plan. For-

mer CM Vasundhara Raje approved the plan of making the bus stand

thirteen-storey by increasing the budget to Rs110 crore. But the

work could not start in the tenure of her government for four years.

After that, Raje released a grant of Rs20 crore for completing the works. Finally, the construction work was completed in February this year by spending Rs26 crore. Now, inauguration of the new building of bus stand is pending. Roadways officials say that it can be started from next month. The foundation stone of the reconstruction work was laid by CM Gehlot six years ago,

but the work was not done as per the plan. So, Roadways officials are hesitant to approach Gehlot for the inauguration of only one part of Sindhi Camp Bus Stand. At the same time, Transport Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas is also not much interested in inauguration. If the building gets operational, it would be possible to shift platform no. 2 to 3, which would provide relief to the passengers.
