FAMILY MATTERS IN MEMORY OF ,
I had entered the chapel quite early for a funeral I was simply attending. People were milling around, talking and so forth. I was sitting with several of our church members when my phone vibrated, indicating a message. Because we have a person in intensive care, I was concerned and checked the message. It was from our Administrator, Tim, telling me that the Online Giving module on our webpage was complete and was ready to be used. This is something that has been requested for some time—and something we have been working on for some time. It has now all come together. This wonderful tool will meet the needs of those of us who bank and pay bills online. Many church members and others have requested that this giving option be made available. It is a service whose time has come, so you may go online and offer your tithes and offerings, pay for trips and make special donations through our online app. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to do it:
Go to www.firstbaptistcolumbusga.com At the main page, look to the left of the page under “Just for You . . . .” The eighth link in the list is “Online Giving” – Click that and it will take you to the Online Giving Page The two funds noted on the site all the time are General Fund and Benevolence – select the fund In the “Memo” box, you have the option of offering more direction/ clarification concerning the gift In the “Give” box, enter the amount of your contribution Enter your e-mail address for confirmation You also have the option of making multiple gifts by using the “+Add More” tab
I also want to note that, going forward, when we have a Youth Event, Children’s Event, Adult Event, Special Missions Offering and the like, the site will be updated to accommodate the particular fund. Also note that payments for trips will not be listed on your contribution statement and are not tax deductible. The convenience of this is obvious. Our Finance Committee and deacons hope this will be a useful tool, offering you another channel for your generous financial support of the Lord’s work through your Church Family. I leaned over and told our members sitting next to me about the text I had just received. Both of them responded affirmatively. I said, When you go home, try it out! I hope you will as well. It is a really neat way that our Church Family has entered a new age in giving. It is probably not unlike when the first checks were placed in the offering plate instead of cash . . . or cash instead of a chicken in the earliest days. ☺ Your Pastor, Jimmy

PARENTS ARE PEOPLE, TOO! That means you are made in the image of God. Have you ever wondered what makes you want to be a better parent? Have you ever been amazed by how much you love your kids? It’s the image of your heavenly Father flickering in you as mom or dad. It’s Just a Phase, a workshop for parents of children from birth through seniors in high school, will begin on January 22 at 5:00 PM in the Multipurpose Room of the YAB. Childcare will be provided. We mourned this weekend at the passing of Mr. Kellon Shepard. Our students had the chance to visit with him multiple times over the years and had grown very fond of him. As has been the case with so many beloved church members who have passed away, our Homebound Ministry has allowed FBC students the opportunity to make strong connections with these saints and actually hear their incredible life stories. We talk a lot about second stories, but people like Mr. Kellon have had 20 different stories over the span of his 90 years, and each layer of his life has had so much richness and application for our own lives and future. We as students and young adults are reminded again today by the life of Kellon Shepard that we are upheld by the love, sacrifice and faith of those who have gone before us.
Comfort comes in many different forms. During the ordination service last Sunday, I found myself comforted by the hymns Gwyn Davis played as our congregation offered blessings to Rebecca Wiggins. Each hymn was familiar to me. As Gwyn played, I sang the lyrics in my mind. I did not consciously decide to recall the words; it was definitely an involuntary impulse. Before the service concluded, I offered prayers of thanksgiving for my exposure to those wonderful hymns. I was grateful to my parents, Sunday School teachers, music directors, ministers of music, and most of all to a list of children’s and youth choir leaders who had given me the opportunity to discover this trove of hymns and spiritual songs that are now a part of my deepest thoughts. As leaders and parents, it is our responsibility to continue sharing these words of comfort with generations to come in worship, Bible study and through our preschool, children’s and youth choirs. Blessings.

YOUTH MINISTRY (firstname.lastname@example.org) Our Youth Council slipped away to Camp Lumpkin in LaGrange Thursday and Friday, January 5-6, to organize our efforts for the spring semester. We immersed ourselves— individually and collectively—into the youth program with a fine tooth comb, seeking to identify strengths and weaknesses. Together, we have begun putting into motion a great plan for Spring. We also had an opportunity to share together one positive attribute we witnessed in each other during the retreat. In naming that particular strength for one another, we identified how God might use each of us to strengthen the youth family at First Baptist. It was an awesome retreat!

MUSIC MINISTRY (email@example.com)
Thank you to all who made the Christmas season so very special this past year. Our children’s choir directors, Babbs Douglas and Gena Davis, put together such great music with our children. Thank you Myron Douglas for directing the handbells; they bring a special sound to the season. Thank you Janie Lee Bullock, Nancy McKee, Gwyn Davis and Karen Lewis for leading us in worship through organ and piano. Thank you to all the support staff and ministers for their hard work and leadership. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful and dedicated people minister to us and with us.
