The Messenger firsT bapTisT hunTsville FirSt thoughtS david hull, pastor We often hear the saying “First things first” which is a reminder to place a high priority on what is most important. I want to suggest that we think of the phrase a little differently – “First Things Last.” As I conclude my pastoral ministry at First Baptist, I plan to preach during June and July on the matters of faith which are most important – they are the “first things.” I have preached these themes during the past twelve years, but now I put them together in a series that will come last after hundreds of other sermons. I also hope that these first things will last – in the sense that they will have lasting meaning in your life. I invite you to take a journey of faith with me from the beginning to the end – as we consider First Things Last.

Hello Church! I am working this summer with an organization called the Tamar Center in Pattaya, Thailand. Their vision is to build relationships with prostitutes and lady boys working in the bars. If these women want to leave the bars the Tamar Center provides a place for them to go. There is training to work in the bakery/restaurant, card shop, or the hair salon. My role this summer is to teach English, work in the nursery, build relationships with prostitutes and lady boys, and create new cards to sell. I and this ministry could use your prayers! For myself: Spiritual protection in my work, especially when we go to the bars, protection physically as I travel through Pattaya, to always be present minded and love the people well. For the Tamar Center: Pray we would be blessed in deep relationships with the bar girls, with healthy finances, and a strong community, for daily renewal of strength for all of the staff, and for growth. THANK yOU! If you would like to read more, please visit their website: www.tamarcenter.com or my blog www. hiddenbehindthecross.wordpress.com

First Baptist has delivered two-day meal packages to 75 students each week during the 2013-2014 school year. These food packages were picked up at the North Alabama Food Bank and delivered to Lakewood each Thursday by a group of faithful First Baptist volunteers. On Friday the food packages were placed in the student’s back packs before they left for home. These food packs assured that the child would have food on Saturday and Sunday. This ministry gives First Baptist the opportunity to say, “God loves you”. It also is Matthew 25:40 in action... “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
