Volume 64 / Week Number 35 / July 25, 2013
The Messenger firsT bapTisT hunTsville On secOnd thOught Jud Reasons, Associate Pastor Have you read any good books this summer? If you’re like me, you enjoy reading books all throughout the year. My favorite books are related to the Appalachian Trail and the experiences of those who have thru-hiked this 2,000 mile footpath. This summer, many kids in our church have been on a journey of sorts. They have been reading books through our “Hooked on Good Books” Summer Reading Extravaganza. Our kids will be wrapping up their book reading emphasis with a party on Wednesday, July 31. Part of their party will include coming downstairs to Fellowship Hall and showing us their “fish.” In the next couple of weeks, I hope you will walk through the front corridor of our church and notice the many “strings” hooked with fish representing books that our kids have read this summer. Thanks to Robyn Helms for leading this effort along with our Childhood Ministry Staff.
this sunday July 28, 2013 Sermon Dr. Jeffery Leonard, preaching “To Heal and To Hope” Genesis 1 & Revelation 21
First Fellowship - 8:15 a.m. Music from the First Fellowship Band
Morning Bible Study - 9:15 a.m. Bible Study for all ages
This Sunday, we welcome Dr. Jeffery Leonard as our Guest Preacher in both morning worship services. Dr. Leonard is an Assistant Professor in the Religion Department at Samford University in Birmingham. His deepest passion and the focus of his teaching and research is the first Testament of the Bible, the Hebrew Scriptures. He received his M.Div. from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, N.Y., and his Ph.D. from Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. Dr. Leonard is also an ordained minister and teaches a Sunday School class at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, where he is a member. When he is not working in his study or the classroom, Dr. Leonard will be found traveling, backpacking, or just enjoying time with his wife, Michaela, and two sons, Samuel and Elijah. I know you will join me in welcoming Dr. Leonard to First Baptist Church this Sunday.
