We were commissioned to be the lead technical consultants as the client undergoes major structural reorganization to achieve leaner IT services. As part of this a single EPM system together with Business Intelligence systems was required. Their legacy systems delivered their BI via Cognos, as well as migrating from Cognos to
Business Objects, they also wished to consolidate their source systems.
Our consultants worked closely with the business to understand the requirements as well as understanding the frustrations with the legacy systems. By utilizing our experience of both BI toolsets we created a seamless migration. One of the complaints of the users was the performance of the reporting. We worked both on the back end Oracle 11 and the BI front end to achieve excellent performance. As a result query times were reduced from 30 seconds to 4 seconds. Our in depth knowledge of the EPM space meant that we where able to model the customers data for an intuitive user friendly experience. By utilizing aggregate awareness we were also able to provide optimal performance.
One of the key benefits of using Business Objects was that we were able to provide Universes over each of the legacy source systems as well as the new EPM software. The ability to merge data in reports and Dashboards from multiple universes meant that the staged source system migration had no impact on the users reporting experience. As a result of the project the company was able to retire 3 legacy source systems as well as retire their previous Business Intelligence software. The business can now take a global view of its projects & programs, measuring run rates, budgets, cost benefit analysis and monitor RAG statusâ€™. All form a central enterprise wide BI system that can grow with the businessâ€™ requirements. Such was the success of the project, 2 of our consultants have been retained on site to deliver ongoing BI reporting, this includes
Management reports, Excelcius Dashboards and mobile iPhone dashboards. The client benefits from our technical expertise as well as maintaining a continuity of systems knowledge, something they previously lacked when using the traditional contractor route.
