WE STOCK LOCAL BECAUSE WE ARE Peter Thomsett first built the “Sorrento Bottle Barn” in 1975 and then Seacrest Liquor Store in 1989. Peter, has been heavily involved in the local community being one of the founding members of the Trigg Surf Lifesaving Club and a philanthropic businessman throughout his life. In 1984, Peter’s son Paul Thomsett, started Clover Cottage Trout Farm in the State’s Southern Forest region. Paul later transformed the farm into a country retreat attracting avid fly-fisherman, couples and families looking to experience the beautiful southwest. Recognised for its unspoilt charm, the Sourthern Forest region is now known as one of Australia’s premier wine growing regions. It is this deep connection and long standing history with Western Australia that makes us genuinely want to support our State. Did you know around 45 cents in every dollar spent in a locally owned shop stays in the local community? By comparison, only around 13 cents of every dollar spent in the big retailers remains in the local community.
As per a recent study conducted by IBISworld a major concern for wine producers is the increasing dominance of Woolworths and Coles in liquor retailing. Woolworths and Coles have aggressively increased their presence in the liquor retailing market in recent years, expanding the number of Dan Murphys, Woolworths Liquor, BWS, Liquorland and First Choice outlets in Australia. Between 2005 and 2010, these supermarket giants’ share of the Australian alcohol retailing market increased from 33% to over 45%. With plans to open another 270 stores between them in the next two years, this dominance is set to grow further. As these supermarkets refine their operations and grow their influence in liquor retailing, pressure mounts on smaller, local wineries, breweries and distillers to be able to continue to survive. Generally speaking, large companies feed large retailers with well marketed, popular brands. By comparison, smaller producers are often unable to meet the supply conditions of national retailers. It is our plan to support the little guys and give back to customers a broader and less generic liquor and food range.
TASTE ANYTIME Taste is specific to you; what tastes good to someone else may be unpalatable to you. So why should you have to rely on what is written on the bottle or by the tasting notes of a ‘wine journalist’? We will allow patrons to taste a generous range of products at any time of the day or week through the use of the Enomatic Wine Serving System. Enomatic has developed a system that preserves, serves and manages all aspects of wine at the highest quality. Enomatic’s preservation technology protects the wine from oxidation so the wine tastes as if the bottle has just been opened. This will allow us to offer tasting of premium wines. Otherwise you would have had to rely on the recommendations of others, or, alternatively, purchase the wine in order to taste it. To top it off you will be able to track your own tastings on our website and view reccommendations based on what you have liked and didn’t like.
As we are fully independent you will be able to deal directly with us, the owners.
With over 75 years of experience in Liquor, Hospitality and Tourism, this family owned business will provide you with the finest service and expert advice.
We believe that customer value is much more than just price. There is little point in purchasing a cheap bottle of wine if you don’t enjoy it. Quality produce and personal service are key factors in ensuring that you get the best possible offering. At the Fine Liquor Merchants, we will help select the right wine for you, within any budget.
If you are having a large function or celebration we will tailor a liquor selection that fits you and your budget. If you want a bottle of wine or boutique beer not otherwise available, you can trust us to source it for you. Even if you just want old fashioned friendly service, we will provide it with a smile.
Not only will we provide you with an extensive and unique range of wine, beer, cider and spirits, the Fine Liquor Merchants will also provide a generous range of gourmet food.
