UNSUNG HEROES
Life is like a roll of toilet paper the closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes. And so it is, for all of us living here at Tudor Oaks Retirement Community. We are here to enjoy the last years of our lives, living free of the fear of being alone, free of the fear of falling and “can’t get up,” and knowing with a push of a button someone will come to our aid. How fortunate we are to be surrounded by staff and people, who are at our beckoned call, who all, in my opinion, are UNSUNG HEROES.
This is my list and if I missed any, I apologize:
The people from Housekeeping who keep our apartments and Tudor Oaks spic and span, the Dining Staff and young servers who keep us happy and well fed, Maintenance who keep our apartments and appliances, and Tudor Oaks complex in good working order, the Nursing Staff, a call button away, the Lifestyle Director who plans our interesting outings, entertaining and enriching programs, and our Wellness Director who does her best at keeping our bodies from creaking, our Receptionists who greet all that visit with a smile, our Business Staff who keep things humming, our Bus Drivers for those who no longer drive and for our outings… and our many Volunteers. Those who spend hours keeping our library organized and up-to-date, our beautiful greenhouse that is a reminder that spring is coming and always tidy, the people who plan our regular parties, including our gala New Year’s Eve party, our Second Sunday Out activities group that provides more fun parties, our in -house photographer who never misses an opportune photo-op, our in-house transporters for those needing assistance, and last but not least, our landscapers who make our home a stunningly beautiful place to call home. All these people make our lives easier, healthier, pleasant, and richer. So, before my “life toilet -paper roll” runs out, I want to say how grateful I am for all these people and want to honor them by saying HATS OFF to the UNSUNG HEROES here at Tudor Oaks!

Employee Highlight: Tracie Riley
Tracie Riley joined the Tudor Oaks sta昀 as a receptionist just three months ago. She hails from Milwaukee where she attended Wauwatosa West High School. She worked as an Oral Surgery assistant then went onto do orthodontics. After welcoming her two daughters she became a stay at-home mom. Her daughter
Jayden is 20 years old and works part-time right here at Tudor Oaks while going to school to be a nurse practitioner. Olivia is 19 years old and attends school in Oshkosh to become a police o cer.
Tracie’s favorite vacations are going to Las Vegas and weekend gambling trips. She would love to go to Italy and New York City someday. In Tracie’s free time she has started “pour painting”. You take lots of paint and just pour it on canvas to create a colorful and unique creation.
Tracie loves watching Hell’s Kitchen and Survivor. She enjoys cooking herself but 昀nds it hard to cook for just one person. She currently resides in Green昀eld with her
two cats Holly and Smokie. Please welcome Tracie the next time you see her at the front desk!!

Residents Highlight: CHARLOTTE KOVAC
Charlotte grew up on the southside of Milwaukee, near the airport. She has a sister, Susan, who is eight years younger. Their mother was a homemaker and their father was a supervisor at Cutler-Hammer. Her mother’s father (her maternal grandpa) lived with the family as well. Charlotte’s parents wanted a parochial education for their daughters; therefore, they attended St. Veronica’s thru 8th grade then Notre Dame High School. Charlotte and her sister are both artists with a preference for watercolors and always have various crafts always in progress.
Charlotte married and moved to her husband’s hometown of Cudahy. Soon after, her parents and sister moved to Kentucky because of a job promotion for their father. Her sister continues to live there. Charlotte and her husband had two daughters.
While her girls were in school, Charlotte began to volunteer for the school’s PTA and various PTA fundraisers, helped in the school library, and the public library as well. Once the girls were older, Charlotte took a job with the Cudahy School district as an assistant librarian at Kosciuszko Elementary School and retired after 18 years.
While working for the school district, Charlotte was approached to serve on the Cudahy Library Board. Always a reader and loving books as she did, it was an honor for her to serve on the board, especially since plans were being made for a new library.
Charlotte traveled to Czechoslovakia one very hot summer. There was so much to see. The next summer she traveled with
friends to New York City. They saw three plays, an opera, and the sights of the city: Guggenheim Art Museum, Empire State Building, Wall Street, and Chinatown to name a few. She has also traveled with a tour group to London. There were many things to see including the British Museum and a concert at the St. Martin In the Field Church. One of her favorite stops was the world’s largest book sale in Hay on Wye in Wales.
Charlotte did fundraisers for Interfaith. She painted chairs and created and painted a child’s game table for auction. She was asked by Interfaith to enter a painting for their Senior Art Show at Meadowmere in Oak Creek. Her painting was used for the invitation and flyers.
Charlotte was introduced to Tudor Oaks by her friend who works for Interfaith. With the luck of the draw, she has been here since 2017. Charlotte truly enjoys visits with her daughter and two grandchildren. Her granddaughter is a budding young artist herself. Charlotte’s art will be shown in the private dining room Art Gallery here at Tudor Oaks in February.

Tudor Oaks Storyteller’s Group
Thank you to my many friends and neighbors here at Tudor Oaks for the love and support you have shown to me and Carol during these past weeks. As you probably know, I entered Froedtert Hospital on October 5 for what was supposed to be a very straigh琀orward hernia opera琀on. Unfortunately, things did not go well and I ended up spending a month and a half either in the hospital or in the TO rehab center. During these days, I received many cards, best wishes and prayers on my behalf. All of these were greatly appreciated. Thanks for your though琀ulness. I also had many who provided for some of our needs including a wonderful carrying case for the awkward wound vacuum which allowed me to be somewhat mobile. Others volunteered to drive Carol to the hospital when a member of my family was unavailable. All so much appreciated. Most of you who know me, know that I am not always very pa琀ent. Well, the Lord taught me a great lesson in pa琀ence these past six weeks. “My 琀me is not your 琀me, says the Lord”, “Wait on the Lord,” and “All things work together for good to those who love the Lord.” Just a few of the reali琀es He had me recall. By the 琀me you read this, I should be back in my apartment and well recuperated. Much of that is because of your though琀ulness. May our gracious Lord con琀nue to bless Tudor Oaks, its residents and sta昀.
