Seller Insight The current owners and custodians of this historic house have done considerable restorations to the property since moving in. “The house was probably built on the foundations of an earlier house by the late 1600’s” they say. “In the early 1800’s an extensive modernisation took place to create the symmetry of a Georgian house. The front door was re-positioned, we believe, and corner fireplaces were replaced by central chimneys. However, by the time we moved here over 40 years ago the house had become rather tired. So with much love and care, we brought it alive again.” “The house is magnificent for entertaining whether it is a small supper party or a large wedding reception,” the owners continue. “After one 60th birthday party we slept 10 guests and even continued the party the following day! In the summer time we tend to dine ‘al fresco’ on the lower terrace and always take coffee on the upper terrace to the sound of the old fountain. The table and chairs there we have named ‘The Best Café in the World’. The garden is very private and is walled creating its own micro-climate where fig and olive trees grow.” The local area too has much to offer. “Coleshill is a lovely market town with its own market hall, town council and civic society,” say the owners, “and is a place we shall miss, although we are looking forward to moving closer to our daughter. For us Coleshill has been the ideal place to live and bring up our children. Within a 2 minute walk up past the church, we are in miles of open country. Birmingham is a 10 minute train ride from Coleshill Station and London is 1 hour 15 minutes from Birmingham International station. The M6 is 5 minutes and Birmingham airport is 15 minutes away.”*

We practically live in the snug, which is wondrously warm both in atmosphere and temperature with its Georgian wood panelling up to dado height and an open fire in the winter evenings. It is such a nice place to be, with a large window overlooking the lovely garden.

We shall miss this house as one misses a dear friend. When you have lived for 40 years in a house and put a lot of loving care into it, it inevitably becomes a part of you and you of it. This house is thus a part of us now, just as it will soon become part of somebody else and was part of the previous owners before us. We have simply been taking care of this lovely home for the generation to come.

LOCATION This property is located on the high street in Coleshill giving fantastic access to Solihull, Birmingham and other surrounding towns. Whilst being able to enjoy the picturesque lifestyle of being in a historic market town. Positioned in the heart of England the county is famous for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare. There are no cities in Warwickshire since both Coventry and Birmingham were incorporated into the West Midlands County in 1974 and are now metropolitan authorities in themselves. The northern tip of the county is only three miles from the Derbyshire border. An average-sized English county covering an area of almost 2,000 km2, it runs some 60 miles north to south. Equivalently it extends as far north as Shrewsbury in Shropshire and as far south as Banbury in north Oxfordshire.
