Seller Insight Positioned on a quiet country lane close to the centre of the charming village of Marsh Gibbon is Walkers Cottage, a picture perfect stone-built thatched cottage that is enveloped by around a third of an acre of very pretty gardens. “My wife and I purchased the property back in 1997 and there were a number of factors that drew us to it,” says Nick. “Firstly, it sits within a really nice little village that’s surrounded by countryside, so it offered an idyllic and very safe environment for us to live in, particularly for our children. However although the immediate surroundings are wonderfully green and picturesque, the location is also very convenient. The transport links are good, so it’s possible to get just about anywhere with relative ease, and just up the road we have Bicester Village with its fantastic array of shops. In short it’s a setting that offers the best of both worlds.” “The house itself is the archetypal chocolate box cottage, which again is exactly what we had been searching for. We purchased it from a couple who had looked after it beautifully, so it was in excellent condition when we moved in, and we’ve taken on that obligation and loved it and cared for it and to a certain extent enhanced it further. We took down an interior wall to extend the living room, and we also enlarged the kitchen to create a lovely big kitchen/breakfast room, and in 2010 we had all of the thatch redone, so it’s good for another 25 to 30 years. Just as it was when we purchased it, the house is all in really good order and ready for a new family to move in and enjoy it every bit as much as we have.” “The property boasts a really substantial garden that was great for the children when they were little,” continues Nick. “It was nicely established when we came here so again it’s just been a case of maintaining it and keeping it in lovely condition, and actually, despite its size, it’s surprisingly low maintenance. We have a really nice patio terrace just outside the garden room and then the rest of the space is mainly laid to lawn and edged by a mature border, so not only is it very peaceful but it’s also extremely private.” “In my mind the location is ideal,” says Nick. “You can enjoy countryside living combined with the convenience of having a number of really well-served towns and villages close at hand. The previous owners added a garden room which creates a really nice connection with the outside space,” says Nick. “It was designed to be very much in keeping with the original part of the house, but internally it has a more modern feel, which is a nice contrast.” “My daughters were keen to keep horses, so we have already moved to a property with more land, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Walkers Cottage,” says Nick. “In terms of what I miss most about it, I’d say that it’s probably its character; it’s such a beautiful home, really one of a kind, and the setting is simply idyllic.”* * These comments are the personal views of the current owner and are included as an insight into life at the property.
