The ACE Spelling Dictionary is now even better than it was! With this fully revised new edition, we have made a number of important changes. This includes updating and extending the vocabulary, giving more alternative spellings, more plural forms and more ‘sound-alike’ words with meanings. The middle section is a darker blue to make it easier to find the right page. It is clear that pupils with spelling difficulties often experience problems with the whole curriculum and lose confidence with writing. The ACE Spelling Dictionary breaks through these problems. Using the unique 2-page index spread, pupils need only think how a word sounds to find out how to spell it. By simply identifying the first vowel sound, the speller is sent instantly to the page where the problem word is found. The easy-to-use reference system will tempt them to use more interesting words in their writing, enabling them to produce work that they can be proud of. Both patterns and irregularities are highlighted in the dictionary so that pupils learn to spell incidentally. The dictionary includes a clear step-by-step guide to effective teaching with the dictionary, over 20,000 words, a comprehensive list of commonly misspelt words and further learning strategies for spelling. Contains 328 pages (176 x 250mm).

+RZ7R,QFUHDVHWKH3RWHQWLDORI 6WXGHQWVZLWK'&' '\VSUD[LD LQ 6HFRQGDU\6FKRRO The structure of secondary education demands that young people are well organised, self-sufficient, increasingly autonomous learners, who can cope with a wide range of teachers and a diverse timetable based around multiple locations and buildings. However, a substantial number of young people have motor co-ordination and perceptual difficulties which affect their participation in class activities. This condition was previously termed ‘dyspraxia’ but is now more universally referred to as ‘developmental co-ordination disorder’ or DCD. For these pupils, poor handwriting, erratic organisation and difficulties with reading, mathematics and physical education may have been noted at primary school with their associated detrimental effect on academic success, peer relationships, social skills and self-confidence. However, these issues are felt more keenly in secondary school due to the desire to ‘fit-in’ and be accepted by a potentially large and often unforgiving peer group. This book will provide readers with an insight into how DCD can affect students at Key Stages 3 and 4, and provide some practical strategies to help each young person to reach their potential. is a practical guide to supporting children and young people making transitions at all stages of their school lives, whether they are moving within or between schools, or to sixth-form college or away from home. When educational transitions are managed effectively, pupils can maximise the time and effort they put into the business of learning, rather than using that same energy in dealing with orientation, friendship and learning-style issues. With sections on understanding transitions, creating a Personal Learning Profile, and how to plan and run transition events, as well as a wide range of inclusive activities customised especially for different types of transition, this book will give you everything you need to give pupils the best possible chance of success. 1. Target Ladders

Beat Dyslexia

4. Beat Dyslexia 3

This powerful new series of practical books will support SENCos and mainstream primary school teachers in thinking about what their SEN pupils can do and deciding on the next steps. It offers a system for setting and monitoring targets which can replace or complement IEPs. Designed to sit alongside the successful ‘How to…’ series, each book focuses on one particular SEN and features a series of ‘target ladders’ relating to this. Starting at the bottom of a ladder and identifying what the child can do, the intention is that the teacher progresses until they reach the first step that the child can’t do, or isn’t secure at; they can then begin to create a target.

The step-by-step multi-sensory literacy programme for all dyslexic pupils has just got better! Each book includes a colour card pack and an audio CD. Full of variety and using imaginative approaches, each stage in the Beat Dyslexia series is structured so that all the goals are small and attainable. Pupils gain confidence through success as they develop a sound understanding of basic spelling and grammar. Books 1–3 cover all the letters of the alphabet, and on completion of the third book pupils will have mastered consonant digraphs and consonant clusters. Books 4–5 are geared to the needs of slightly older pupils and introduce long vowels. Each book contains between 50 and 80 photocopiable worksheets, teacher’s notes, photocopiable reference sheets and card packs. Book 6 is new to the series and is primarily targeted at students in Years 6 to 8. Help with skills that elude dyslexic pupils, such as telling the time, map reading and homework planning, is also offered.

Covers: -ck, v, w, j, y, sh, qu, wa, x, -ed, z, -ff and -ch. Includes audio CD and cards.

Suggestions for strategies and activities for achieving targets are included throughout. Each book comes with a CD with photocopiable material, including targets pages and Records of Progress templates. Autistic Spectrum

This new edition of Stile Dyslexia is recommended by Dyslexia Action and offers a specially structured selfchecking programme to take pupils through the rules of spelling and grammar using a phonic approach.

As an experienced teacher and the mother of a dyslexic child, Judy Hornigold has written the book that she wishes had been available when her own son was diagnosed. She writes with knowledge and understanding, both of the challenges of dyslexia and of the way in which parents can help to support their child. It is full of practical ideas that are not only fun but have been proven to work in helping dyslexic children overcome the problems that they face. Includes photocopiable templates, simple games and activities and a substantial section of invaluable resources.

Fully updated to current guidance, including specially commissioned illustrations, Stile Dyslexia offers a structured and cumulative programme, with each activity focusing on a specific learning point and revision activities at regular intervals. This programme comprises 9 books on spelling and grammar rules and one on general sequencing, including work on the alphabet and months of the year. Contains 10 books (246 x 171mm), each with 16 pages illustrated in full colour.

6WLOH7UD\ The Stile Tray is the key to the self-checking activities of the Key Stage 1/P2-3 and 2 programme. Pupils answer the questions by simply placing each of the twelve numbered tiles on the appropriate square on the base of the tray. When all the tiles have been placed, they close the tray, turn it over, and reopen it to reveal a geometric pattern. If the answers are all correct, the pattern will match the one printed at the top of the exercise.

Roar is the main character in each book, alongside a family member and her supportive friend. She uses her special talents and likes to be busy, but enjoys taking a break by hiding – just as children with Asperger’s find joining in can be hard work and like to take a break, perhaps by doing a simple activity on their own; routine and ritual restore an overloaded mind. While created for those on the autistic spectrum, Roar’s zest for life will appeal to children and families everywhere! Full colour throughout, written in rhyming verse, with 36 pages in each book. Literacy | Special Needs Kaos World Chronicles - A structured literacy scheme for KS3-4 students

1

This reading scheme is designed for secondary students who have struggled to engage with literacy or who have gaps in their learning. The Stories There are a series of high-interest, low-ability short stories in two versions – Easy and Standard. Books 1-10 progress from RA 5.5 to 6.2 in the easy versions and 6 to 7.2 in the standard versions, based on the Flesch-Kincaid Reading Levels. Two versions of the story allow for differentiation and enable more students to access whole-group work. The stories are set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world where society has broken down. They follow two main characters, Travis and Spanna, as they battle to survive in a dangerous, unpredictable world. Each book continues the story on from the one before, which helps to maintain the students’ interest in reading and build up their enthusiasm for literacy. The stories develop in complexity and deal with key contemporary issues such as violence, bullying, gang-membership, risk-taking and love. Each story also contains a list of tricky words at the back to reinforce the more difficult vocabulary found in the book, and the number of words on each page is highlighted so students can record their progress and feel a sense of achievement as their fluency improves. Teacher’s books and accompanying CDs provide electronic versions of worksheets, monitoring sheets, records of progress, target sheets and certificates to help motivate and reward. Each reading book is A5 with 24 pages and black and white illustrations.
