Jonathan Finch Manchester Book Fair OUGD301 : Brief 5 BA Graphic Design Level 06

Create an edition of 10 books based upon a single typeface that are to be sold at the 2011 Hotbed Press Manchester Book fair. The books should focus primarily on creative editorial layout and format that is appropriate to the chosen typeface.

The books should essentially be an experimental type specimen piece but also express the background research undetaken into the history of the typeface and be presented with a design concious audience in mind.

Jonathan Finch Manchester Book Fair OUGD301 : Brief 5 BA Graphic Design Level 06

The design of the books was centred on a theme of using very evenly and heavily spaced out characters to give the impression of it being fed through a typewriter which was meant to help communicate the content. This was to be reinforced by only using

black ink and a few opacities of black to print it. The 10 books were printed to B5 scale on off-white sugar paper which helps to give them the feel and appearance of minature newspapers.

Jonathan Finch wÅven Branding Pitch OUGD301 : Brief 8 BA Graphic Design Level 06

Develop the core brand DNA for a new denim led fashion label that is aiming at contemporary dressed men and women aged 18-35. The name for the label is wÅven - which is pronounced woven due to the Scandanavian letter A that is used.

The wÅven logo and supporting custom lettering is based simply upon a stitch or woven line. It has been developed to communicate a young dynamic brand whilst holding Scandanavian characteristics that relate to it’s heritage.

The typeface is the starting point for a developing visual language that is aiming to express a confident and contemporary image. The main colour scheme is to consist of black and white plus three core pastel colours which were colour-dropped from an

image of the northern lights which are visible from parts of Sweden. The initial ideas of logos, colour, pattern work, type have then been applied conceptually to a range of t-shirts and jeans to show how they could be used.

Jonathan Finch Imagine That Competition OUGD301 : Brief 6 BA Graphic Design Level 06

Produce an A5 magzine for the launch issue of Imagine That which promotes the work of students and recent graduates. The brief is to base it upon the theme of 1. My submission - and winning entry - is based on the idea that 1 event or 1 thing starts a

reaction or something that grows and evolves. I have tried to communicate that issue 1 of Imagine That is one such event that will continually progress and develop with each edition and this is symbolised through expanding black rings that grow in weight.
