They Move, So They Are Het festival geeft ruim baan aan de toekomstige generatie animatietalent. Het programma richt zich deze editie, ter gelegenheid van de twintigjarige viering van het culturele verbond tussen Nederland en Vlaanderen, volledig op onze Zuiderburen. De huidige toppers die tien jaar geleden achter hun tekentafel en computer kropen (Robbe Vervaeke, Emma De Swaef en Wouter Sel van Studio Volstok) tonen niet alleen eigen werk, maar ook films en fragmenten van aanstormende beloftes. Zij presenteren vol trots en lof Emily Lefebvre, Pieter Vandenabeele en Simon Lynen. En het blijft niet bij bewegend beeld alleen, want de makers belichten in live gesprekken hun bijzondere werkterrein. Als eerste film wordt I Move, So I Am van Gerrit van Dijk vertooond, waar het programma, als eerbetoon, naar vernoemd is. The festival clears the way for the future generation of animation talents. Een zogenoemde ‘documentaire over Dannyboy’ waarin een jongen, zoals dat nu eenmaal hoort in een saai en tegelijkertijd onzeker tienerbestaan, in allerlei poses op zijn kamer hangt. De Franstalige voice-over leidt de kijker in rap tempo door de even alledaagse als kleurrijke wereld van de puber. Simon Lynen volgde de School of Arts in Gent, België. Hij is werkzaam als animatieregisseur. Dry-witted stop-motion animation about the life of a pedigree adolescent. A so-called ‘documentary about Dannyboy’ in which a boy, as befits a dull and at the same time insecure teenage life, hangs around in his room in all sorts of postures. The French voice-over rapidly leads the viewer through the youth’s equally banal and colourful world. Simon Lynen attended the School of Arts in Gent, Belgium. He works as an animation director.
