DUPLEX FAMILY HOUSE “NA ŠPITÁLCE” BACHELOR PROJECT tutor : academic year: location:

prof. Ing. arch. Tomáš Šenberger 2009/2010, spring semester Na Špitálce, Prague 6 - Dejvice, CZ PANORAMATICKÝ PA MA ATIC ZZÁBĚR BĚ

AREA DESCRIPTION Building plot is situated in the calm area of Prague 6 – Dejvice in the residential district Hanspaulka on slightly sloping terrain. Built-up area is three floors high in maximum. North side of the plot adjoins with the street Na Špitálce, other sides border just with private plots. Neighborhood is mainly consisted of family houses and lower apartments.

ANNOTATION Assignment of my bachelor project was to design family house with two flat units into a calm prestigious locality in Prague - Hanspaulka in city district Dejvice. Whole site plan was divided into separated lots for each student in school design studio – the goal was to design architectural quality set of family houses follow-up to the nearby functionalist colony Baba. Designed object consists of two units: the bigger flat, which is designated for family with two children and the second - smaller flat, which is designated for grandparents or grown-up children. This flat can be also used for hire by their owners. Operations of flats are separated, into a common area are included only garage and entrance hall.

SITE PLAN URBANISTIC RELATIONS Building’s location at the plot is a result of requirements of urban planning, zoning and reaction for the situated main service road. With respect to plot’s orientation to cardinal points the object is oriented to the South. House keeps street line and the maximal height of the surrounding buildings. Proposal includes four parking places – two of them are roofed and the rest are in front of the garage.

Entire smaller flat is placed in the ground floor. It includes dress room, bathroom, technical room, bedroom (placed on south-west) and living room with a kitchen. The corridor flat is lightened by longitudinal skylight in the flat roof. Living room contain balcony and entrance to the south-west oriented terrace, which is separated from the second flat and offers private space for its dwellers. From the terrace lead stairs to the garden and to the second terrace, belonging the neighbour flat. Outdoor spaces - terraces are separated to individual apartments but at the same time are interconnected - for possible mutual visits. For the garden maintenance tools is in the north-east part of the house designed storeroom with outside entrance.

SCALE MODEL OF THE HOUSE ARCHITECTURAL AND DISPOSAL CONCEPTION Prominent functional colony Baba with architectural valuable buildings from the 30‘s is close to the proposal building plot. With the relation of this consequence and of the influence of this colony this proposal is inspired by functional villas. The proposal is a family house with two dwelling units - the first, bigger, which is intended for a family with two children and the second - smaller, is intended for a grandparents or grown-up children. Because of the fact that the units are separated, owners can also easily provide one of the units for rent. House takes full advantage of the orientation of the parcel to the south, where the most of the living rooms are oriented. The both flats have shared entrance into the object. After the main entrance hall, dwellers continue to their flats by own entrances. As a common area of both dwellings is considered a garage, entrance hall and garden area.

The second, larger flat is composed of the main living space with kitchen and balcony in the ground floor and bedrooms in the lower basement, which is half-embedded to the terrain. Every bedroom has its own entrance to the terrace. Parents’ bedroom includes dress-room and bathroom. Another bathroom, accessible from the corridor is equipped with sauna in addition. To the contribution of lighter and airy interior is staircase designed as a hanging stairs (every step is build-in to the staircase wall). Brightening of entrance corridor is supported also with the gallery permeating to the upper floor, where is workroom/playroom located. The upper floor in addition offers large roof terrace, where you can admire not only the close neighborhood but especially the amazing view on Prague with its monuments (e.g. Prague Castle, Petřín look-out tower, Žižkov TV tower). APARTMENT HOUSE “NA VÝSPĚ” tutors : academic year: location:

Ing. arch. Ladislav Stupka, Ing. arch. Michal Šmolík 2009/2010, spring semester Na Výspě, Praha 4 - Braník, CZ

AREA DESCRIPTION Apartment house is located in the south-west part of Prague, in the calm area of Prague 4 - Braník, on the street Na Výspě. Surrounding housing development consist of low-rise family houses and apartment buildings, its’ height does not exceed three floors. Close to this area is situated Shopping mall Novodvorská with a connection to metro line C, which is the closest connection to the city centre. CONCEPT Volume of the house is based on a simply block, which respects bearing construction system. Mass of the block is divided into differently protruded surfaces, which increase floor area of the object. It is most obvious on the south side of the building, towards the street, where the protruding parts creates cantilevered balconies and loggias, which as well form a unique expression of the building. ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPTION Apartment house is designed as a four storey object, react to surrounding built-up area - the mass of the building is reduced by a half floor embedded to the terrain, thereby is eliminated the height nuance because of the keep compactness of the area. In the semi-basement is placed garage parking and the cellars, which are illuminated by natural daylight. In the three other storeys are located 6 flats - in each floor two. Building is supplemented by semi-private relax area situated at northern part of a garden, where is placed playground with benches. Garden is in addition equipped with dedicated area for barbecue. Collective areas creates an opportunity for residents to meet each other informally, get to know their neighbours and build interpersonal relationships, that can positively affect the quality of co-housing.

DISPOSAL DESIGN Vertical communication is situated on the north side of the building. It offers better option for the positioning of the flats, thereby better fulfil the requirements for insolation of habitable rooms. Southern façade, which is oriented to the street, is utilised for the main living rooms, brightened by French windows. SECTION A-A‘

CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM Structural system is designed as a mixed construction (wall-pillar system), based on the disposal design of the floors and location of vertical communication. In upper floors peripheral load-bearing walls irregularly protruded outside the object, cantilevered parts are reinforced with special load-bearing and thermally protective system Isokorb by Shöck. Due to the morphology of the building is construction system designed as a reinforced concrete frame, which properly strengthen a whole structure. SOUTHERN VIEW

ČERNÝ MOST

HOSTAVICE KYJE DOLNÍ POČERNICE

ABSTRACT, LOCALITY CHARACTERISTICS The task of this project was to work out an urban plan of cadastral district of Prague 14, which is extended on the north-eastern outskirts of Prague. This area includes the original historic villages Kyje, Hloubětín, Hostavice and recently developed housing development Černý Most. The administrative district of Prague 14 also contains district Dolní Počernice. The specified area is characterized by a very heterogeneous structure: from low-rise family houses (situated mostly in the Dolní Počernice, Kyje, Hostavice and part of Hloubětín) to the high-rise prefabricated blocks of flats (panel buildings constructed of pre-fabricated, pre-stressed concrete) in the area of the Černý Most, which is in aspect of a territorial development of the Prague 14 recently built-up area, which originated in the period between the 80th years and early nineties (as a remnant of the Eastern Bloc). The result is large panel housing with a poor and often impenetrable structure without valuable public space. Considerable contrast is also in distribution of public facilities - in the northeast of the area, close to metro station and near to the housing development Černý Most is situated one of the largest shopping areas in the Czech Republic with over-urban importance, which contains stores like a Makro, Hornbach, IKEA, besides that an shopping mall including a hypermarket, a multiplex cinema, fitness center and a large number of smaller shops of various specializations. Further is in the area of Černý Most more than sufficient amount of kindergartens, primary schools and sports fields. But the very opposite is most of the remaining area, where is located sparse and low-rise housing development, public facilities and services are not sufficiently distributed or completely missing. CONCEPTION AND URBAN DESIGN The solution of this separated and very heterogeneous area I see in interconnection of single local centres by continuous built-up area, which will originate fully-fledged urban structure, i.e. area that offers all basic functions together - housing, employment opportunities, services and recreation. The intention is to create an area which do not have satellite character and which will not parasitize on its’ surroundings. To achieve these goals is necessary to create natural hierarchy of urban spaces, build centers in the focal points in particular areas, make landmarks and suppress the monotony. Further is necessary to maximize the density of built-up area, create a concentration of activities and a density which minimizes the demands on transport services, technical infrastructure and also enable the profitability of local services. The hidden potential resides in its location - on the edge of Prague, on the territory which is surrounded by landscape. On the substantial part of the area extends natural park Čihadla, in which are scattered ponds and newly constructed trails and cycle-ways, which have positive impact to the area from viewpoint of recreation. Is necessary to make this natural park more accessible to the inhabitants and utilize it to make more attractive the entire environment of Prague 14. Not only in terms of housing quality but also in terms of addressing the potential investors who would support development in this extensive area. To support natural and potential new local centers is proposed to interconnect the area by building up the locations near the communication connecting northern and southern part of the locality (from the street Českobrodská, through Broumarská leading across Kyje territory to the north, where is situated Rajská Zahrada metro station and begins housing development Černý Most). The area is necessary to be completed by building-up and thickened according to the above mentioned principles the way leads to originate quality urban avenue, which will be a catalyst of life not only inside but also in the surrounding area.

Černý Most Černý Most consists entirely from housing estate of prefabricated blocks of flats. The part Černý Most I. with approximately 1,780 apartments has been completed in 1980. From 1985 has been gradually build individual parts of Černý Most II., where after last stage has been build up about 7270 apartments. In nowadays this housing estate together with the entire northern shopping zone consecutively fill the whole area between the Kyje in the west and Horní Počernice situated in the east. Due to the absence of a diverse estate is even Prague 14 Town Hall located in a prefab block of flats.

Dolní Počernice City District Prague - Dolní Počernice lies approximately 10km as the crow flies from the center of Prague, its area is 576 ha. The original village Dolní Počernice is of ancient origin, although the first written mention of the village appears for the first time in years of the rule of John of Luxembourg 1322 - 1323 in the house of the former owner - Zdislav from Počernice and Průhonice. The village became part of the City of Prague in 1974.

INTERVENTION TO THE TERRITORY > ČERNÝ MOST - Reduction of the communication and conception of urban avenue

The area of the Černý Most is intersected and surrounded by main road leading through Ocelkova street, which is currently underused and with its 4-lanes is inappropriately oversized. Wide conveyor belt has been designed in the 80’s in the planning of the housing development Černý Most. There was expected introduction of tram line, which with regard to the future construction of the nearby metro station has never been realized - in the middle of the wide communication remained wide green belt, which currently works only as an area barrier. Even from the traffic analysis emerged very low utilization of this communication. Because of that is also evident, that 4-lanes road is oversized and unnecessary. Conveyor belt with its width of 24.5 meters creates a barrier that separates the area of Černý Most. For pedestrians it forms difficult obstacle hard to superable, which is supported by unnecessary anti-noise barriers and terrain level differences alongside of this communication. The proposal resolves this problem by narrowing the communication to two traffic lanes, which will be sufficient for the local traffic flow, further will be torn down all useless noise barriers. On the newly established space will be created 42 meters wide urban avenue. This territory will be supported by newly built-up area by poly-functional buildings that will help revive this place and supports to create quality urban space. The solved area will no longer be a barrier for its surroundings and originate here permeable space connecting the entire neighbourhood. A - STREET PROFILE (CURRENT STATE)

ABSTRACT The project design resolves the completion of premises of the international company DEKRA Automobil a.s. The company deals with inspections of vehicles within the MOT test (Ministry of Transport test), performs expert opinions and expertise of road vehicles (valuation and damages), in addition is also engaged in consulting, training and in addition offers other services for emission control station SME. The complex is located in Prague 4, next to the main entrance to the road leading to the highway D1. At the beginning of the project investor’s demand was to design new building with a programme, which would contain station for judicial expertise, driving school and a company canteen. In the project design was also considered the potential future completion of the building by adding some extra floors and an extension with vertical communication. This proposed single storey object with one of longitudinal wall adjoin to the existing building of assembly shop and follow it’s pillar system with the same spacing of columns. The pillar system enables better variability of creating the interior space and also allows use a full-glazed front facade. This lengthwise facade is opened to every driver, who arrives into the area. Its design is inspired by welcome billboards and is supplemented by noticeable lettering Dekra on a toned glass in a typical company colour. The object with its simple volume optically encloses and unifies the whole company building complex – in the direction of the main access road from the northeast. The proposal of the new building is trying to create a representative impression of the Dekra premises. SECTION A-A‘ 1:250

Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura en Madrid design an idea of a future holiday city in a middle of the sea (up to 10.000 inhabitants) the topic is based on a real competition for spanish architecture students [XVI SIKA Edition Competition 2011]

SUMMARY OF THE PROPOSAL Our Proposal is mainly about idea, not about urban planning (urban planning would be the next step Of the proposal elaborated more in-depth). Idea is about city in a future floating on the water. Because it is the proposal for the futurity, We count with future high-end technologies in this design. Cities on the water can be future reality (and could be a such reaction on world-wide flooding problems caused by rising sea levels, which is connected with global warming, problem of nowadays. The city can be called “a platform”, which is self-sufficient and independent in energy on self-operation. Platform is also sustainable, enviromental-friendly and has variable utilization. The main programme comes from an assignment - holiday city. There will be lot of services for visitors (hotels, wellness, shops, amusement parks, restaurants, sport activities, cultural centres, galleries, opera houses and many other. To the platform which can be situated everywhere at sea/ocean it could be possible to approach by a plane or a ship.

variable types and sizes of appartments -classic apartment rooms -rentable “plug-in” unit

“plug-in“ unit the rentable appartment which can be unplugged from the platform and can be used like a watercraft independenty of the whole structure

references - vertical farming references - underwater living

secondary proposal on the theme : “Holiday Delivery” > proposal of distant future: people could “order” a holiday straighthly to their homes > the proposal is mainly about vision and idea > explanation of the holiday process: customer call to the agency, choose a type of a holiday, after ordering in established time will come to a customer’s home special device with a content - ordered holiday inside > the volume of the device will be much more bigger inside than it could appear from the ouside - there we count with distant future technologies (expansible materials, virtual life litteraly) > the sphere on the picture is only abstract expression of the future device

ABSTRACT The intention was to design an exhibition space, which would have variable utilization – for exhibitions, workshops, lectures and various social events. The volume of the object is made from organically shaped modules structured in a row. The loadbearing elements of each module are from prefabricated bond timbers structured crosswise and diagonally between the width of span. Ceiling panels are from wooden planks which replicate the external shape of the object. The material of the sheathing has in the aspect of object utilization two variants - ETFE foil for a temporary structure which would have easily demountable construction; a structured galvanized sheet metal for the variant of permanent building. Skylights provide illumination of the object through the tinted glass placed between the modules’ level changes. The layout of the gallery is designed as a pass-through, has entrances on both sides and may be supplemented by the café.

LOGOTYPE DESIGN

AIR HOUSE

TEAM CZECH REPUBLIC

The proposal to the competition for graphic design of the logo AIR House, house, which has been designed by the team of CTU and participates with it in international student competition “Solar Decathlon 2013” organized by the U. S. Department of Energy. Logotype should express the concept and function of the house and other aspects of the project. Designed logo is a graphic symbol for designed house, where the grid of blue solid circles represented one of the main themes of the project - utilized membrane from ETFE foil, which also points to its airiness and light transmission. The grid of black squares shows solar panels, which are also included in the proposal. The logo is complemented by a main font Clubland, referring to the airy conception of the AIR House, supplemented with a font Frutiger.
