Government clashes over Fiji Times report: “Aircraft seconds away from disaster
Fiji: Jun 08
As the Minister responsible for Civil Aviation I wish to categorically rebut the front-page headline that appeared in the Fiji Times issue of Tuesday 2nd June 2010, which incorrectly reported a Virgin Australia Boeing 777 and an Air New Zealand B767 aircraft narrowly avoiding a mid-air collision in Fiji’s airspace two weeks ago. The preliminary Report available to the Ministry suggests that the two aircrafts were at all times under the watchful radar of Fiji’s ATC and were not in any risk whatsoever of a collision.

Both aircrafts were in constant contact with Nadi’s Air Traffic Control during their movements into and out of Fiji’s controlled airspace. The incident was subjected to standard ICAO investigation requirements by Fiji’s aeronautical authority. The incident was reported to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Fiji Islands under its Mandatory Occurrence Reporting System and was duly investigated. It is reiterated that air safety remains a priority consideration for the Ministry. And it will remain so.

Tongan Prime Minister Sevele’s Comments Re Relocation of Forum Secretariat from Fiji
Tonga, 3 June 2010:
India: Tuesday June 1, 2010
After this incident Sri Sri attended three previously scheduled public gatherings in Bangalore. In response to various questions from the media, Sri Sri urged people not to worry and called upon them to work towards a more inclusive, peaceful and spiritual society. Sri Sri said, “Many people are suffering due to violence. We need to convey the message of peace and non-violence to every household by reinforcing the human values of compassion, friendliness and service. Asked about enhancing security measures around him, Sri Sri said, “I am here for the people and am not in favor of any measures that will prevent this.
The Gores said it was “a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration, according to an e-mailed statement obtained by The Associated Press.
Several media outlets, including New Zealand Herald Online, Islands Business Online, PACNEWS Online, and the Fiji Sun Online have run news items in the past few days, speculating on the relocation of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat from Fiji. Included in each of those media outlets’ news items is a claim that the Tongan Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon Feleti Vaka’uta Sevele, as Chair of the Forum Ministerial Contact Group on Fiji, had said during the media conference after the Group’s meeting in Auckland on Monday, 31 May, “... that the group had looked into shifting its base and it had proved too costly. We wish to clarify that the Tongan Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon Feleti Vaka’uta Sevele, did not at any time during the media conference say or infer that the Ministerial Contact Group or the Forum had discussed the relocation of the Forum
Secretariat from Fiji. According to the transcript of the media conference, the exchange between the Hon Prime Minister and the members of the media on the issue went like this: Question: Is there any move, Mr. Sevele, to move the (Forum) Secretariat offshore as things have got worse in Fiji? Prime Minister Sevele: No. We heard this morning, whilst the (Forum) Secretariat did experience some difficulties the past year or two, things have improved considerably since the appointment of Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and things have practically returned to normal in terms of the operations of the (Forum) Secretariat and there hasn’t been any discussion of that and I doubt that there would be a move. It’s going to cost a lot, and taken from all sides at the moment, no, there hasn’t been any discussion by the leaders of any move away from Fiji.
Samoan PM declines Fiji PM’s invitation Samoa: July2, 2010 Samoa’s PM, Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi says he will not attend the MSG meeting in Fiji later this year. [Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet] Samoa’s prime minister says he will not attend the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) leaders meeting in Fiji this month, even if he is invited. Fiji’s interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama has been quoted in regional media as saying he has invited Samoa, which has been critical of the Fijian administration, but Samoa denies having been asked to attend. Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi questions whether Commodore Bainimarama has the authority to invite islands outside of the MSG.

Lunar An eclipse of the Moon (or lunar eclipse) can only occur at Full Moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of the Earth’s shadow. The shadow is actually composed of two cone-shaped components, one nested inside the other. The outer or penumbral shadow is a zone where the Earth blocks part but not all of the Sun’s rays from reaching the Moon. In contrast, the inner or umbral shadow is a region where the Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.

hy not? Well, there are many ways of investing in real estate. One is to buy a house in need of repairs, fix it, and sell it. Another is to buy and then rent out to tenants. I have had many would-be investors ask me how they should analyze potential rental properties, so let me write about investing as a landlord.  The ability to evaluate a deal correctly is of prime importance. Years ago, at the height of the real estate boom - or should we say madness - investors were willing to sustain a loss each month with a rental property, hoping to cash in big time when they eventually sell. Nowadays, investors are not willing to suffer negative cash flow and bank on future appreciation. How do you determine if your cash flow will be positive, and if positive, will the returns be better than alternative investments?  In some parts of the San Francisco Bay Area, you can buy a 3 bedroom/1 bathroom house for $200,000, and rent this out for $1,500 a month. Let us presume you pay cash for this. Let’s look at the math: Purchase price - $200,000 Property tax - 1.25% of $200,000 or $2,500 annually, or $209 monthly Insurance - 0.35% of $200,000 or $700 annually or $59 monthly  The property tax and insurance together is $268. Subtracting this from the $1,500 rent, the monthly income is $1,232, and annual income $14,784. Compared to the cash investment of $200,000, we are looking at 7.39% return on investment. Is this good enough? I should point out that this is a pretty simplified scenario. In reality, there will be maintenance, vacancy, and even property management costs. Let’s change this scenario a bit and throw in a mortgage, and let’s

Who died? A married couple went to the hospital to have their first baby. While there, a new doctor told them he’d invented a machine which could transfer the mother’s labor pains to the father. The husband thought this was a terrific idea. (Talk about dumb!) The doctor set the machine at ten percent, explaining that even ten percent was too much for most men. But the husband felt just fine. So, the doctor turned it up to twenty per cent. Still nothing. Amazed and with some trepidation, the doctor turned the machine up a notch, to fifty percent. But the husband continued to feel just fine. Wanting to help his wife, however, who was writhing in pain, he told the doctor to transfer all the pain to him. In the end, the wife delivered a healthy baby, and the husband suffered no pain at all. When they arrived home the next day, they found the mailman dead on the front porch.

Akbar and Birbal a little History
There was a Mogul Emperor in India, Akbar The Great (15421605). His full name was Jalaludden Mohammed Akbar Padshah Ghazi and he ruled India from 1560 to 1605. He himself was illiterate, but he invited several learned people in his court. Among these people, nine were very famous and were called Nav Ratna (nine jewels of the Mogul Crown) of his court. Among these nine jewels, five people were more famous - Tansen, Todarmal, Abul Fazal, Maan Singh and Birbal. Akbar’s son Prince Sultan Salim,

It is believed that he was a son of poor Braahman of Trivikrampur on the banks of River Yamuna. According to a popular legend, he died on an expedition to Afghanistan at the head of a large military force due to treachery. It is also said that when Birbal died, Akbar mourned him for several months. The exchanges between Akbar and Birbal have been recorded in many volumes. Many of these have become folk stories in Indian tradition. Birbal’s collection of poetry published under the pen name Brahm are preserved in Bharatpur Museum, Rajsthan, India. Many courtiers were jealous with Birbal and often plotted for his downfall.

The Festival provides a medium for Social, Economical and Cultural enrichment for the people of Fiji origin and those of the South Pacific. It emphasizes the sharing of our heritage with ourselves and with those of this great Nation. To bring the Festival to the people, the committee has fostered alliance with the business community. This has lead to greater exposure for the participating businesses as well as providing financial support for the event. It is estimated that total cost required to organize an event of this magnitude runs within a vicinity of $80K - $100,000.

Often referred to simply as “The Fourth of July”, Independence Day celebrates America’s declaration of independence from Great Britain. Countrywide, Independence Day celebrations, the most popular of which are set against evocative USA symbols like the Washington Monument in DC, or the mountain carving of four exalted American presidents at Mount Rushmore, are usually centered about major events like outdoor symphony concerts and fireworks displays, parades, picnics and barbecues, carnivals and more.
