OUR PLAN In consideration of local and regional guidelines, The Field School will open the 2020-2021 school year in remote learning. We will continue to assess the situation, and hope to return to on-campus learning as soon as we deem it safe to do so. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8, for both Middle and Upper School. Formed in May 2020, our Reopening Task Force is a team of Field staff aided by guidance from physicians in our community. Our Reopening Task Force is dedicated to making sure The Field School campus is ready for students and staff. Our teachers have engaged in professional development this summer focused on providing meaningful and engaging course work in both remote and hybrid settings. In addition, faculty continue to engage in traning in an effort to create a more inclusive and equitable community.

HEALTH + SAFETY In Our Community The Field School relies on our community to follow current guidelines in the interest of protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our community: • • • • •

Stay home if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19. Avoid unnecessary travel. Avoid large social gatherings. Wear a mask when outside of your home. Wash your hands frequently, and use hand sanitizer if hand-washing is unavailable. • Maintain physical distancing of 6ft from those outside of your household. • Follow all local guidelines consistently.

HEALTH + SAFETY On Campus The Field School administers a Daily Health Screening & COVID-19 Exposure Assessment to everyone, prior to campus entry. Masks are required while on campus. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and fit properly. Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will be available in each classroom and throughout campus. Frequent hand washing and sanitizing is required. Furniture throughout all campus spaces has been arranged to accommodate 6-ft. physical distancing guidelines. Only faculty, staff, and students will have access to campus. Parents are permitted on campus for in-vehicle, student drop-off and pick-up, or in the event of an emergency. Our campus will be cleaned and disinfected every evening. High-touch surfaces and restrooms will be cleaned and disinfected throughout the day. All HVAC filters have been upgraded to MERV-13 rating with systems set to maximize air flow. Classroom and building doors and windows will remain open whenever possible to provide additional fresh-air flow. Our dedicated COVID-19 Response Director will implement contact tracing, as needed. Should a community member develop signs of COVID-19 during a school day, they will be isolated until they can safely leave campus. All student health forms—including immunization records—must be complete and returned via our Parent + Student Portal before a student may return to campus. In the interest of further protecting our community, we ask that all students and family members receive a flu vaccination this fall.

FALL SCHEDULE REMOTE LEARNING: Our remote learning schedule will bookend each week with community time. All academic courses will meet three times per week, in 70-minute blocks, providing our students with ample instructional, meeting, collaboration, and work time within the school day.

BI-WEEKLY ADVISORY: With the addition of a twice-weekly

Advisory period for all grades, students will continue to be seen and known and nurtured by a dedicated member of our faculty.

ELECTIVES PROGRAM: Students will have the opportunity to add choice into their schedule, and engage in learning areas of particular interest.

PE PROGRAM: A twice-weekly PE program provides students

with much-needed physical movement, with extensions offered to those who wish to participate in a more sport-specific program.

STUDENTS Cont’d NEW TECHNOLOGY

The Field School is committed to providing technology for students to use in class and at home to allow for an interactive, robust learning environment. We have invested in new tools and upgraded existing systems and learning platforms to ensure teachers and students have the tools they need to engage in stimulating and meaningful lessons. We have provided faculty with professional development opportunities and moved our classrooms to the Google Classroom platform. Students will now utilize MacBooks, providing them with more creative software options. Classrooms have been upgraded with new projectors, microphones, and interactive whiteboard technology, and finally, our on-campus WiFi has been improved.

ATHLETICS

The DCSAA, the city’s governing body for athletics, and the PVAC, Field’s athletic conference, has condensed the three-sports seasons, with modified rules, with a projected start in January 2021. The seasons will run: Winter, Fall, Spring, each lasting 8 weeks. In the meantime, our athletes will remain engaged through our PE program. Updates will be provided as conditions change.
